    Alright, the textures are just about finalized, so let me know if anything is amiss. I'll try a test render overnight with standard lods (the last one I tried with custom lods failed...) I know this computer definately wont be able to handle the lighting, so it'll have to wait on a new computer so just be patient with it.

    I have some rather unfortunate news... I keep getting the export code 6 whenever I lot stuff soon try to export the ONLY THE STANDARD LODS... So no test untill I get the new computer. I might start on lot stuff because it will be at least a month until I can render the tower

    You get code 6 if the LOD is too big.  Might work if you modifiy the shape of the LOD.

    Rendering the mall and tower separately is also an option.

    I was hoping I could avoid it this time around, but yeah, you are right... I'll give it a test with two separate peices in a couple of days. That still wont allow me to render the final ting unless i break it into many peices because the lights are gonna be killer on the final bat, and this computer definately wont be able to handle them...

    Good news everyone.

    I tried the custom lods, and they actually rendered. So I'm going to try a test render with the custom lods, so my computer might be down for a couple of days. And I still dont think it will handle the lights though, but the tower can be rendered in one piece.

    Good luck with the test render. I'm sure it will work.

    (My guess is it will take at least 28 hours even for a test render.)

    Well, I'm back and I have good and bad news...

    The good news first, the tower rendered in like 40 minutes and came out absolutely beautifully except for the bad news...
    here are some pictures not affected by the bad news...

    Crazy huh? It does a similar thing in zooms 3, 4, and 5 in all four angles.  It is not the model that is messed up, I think, but the base texture. It wants to show over the building and ends up messing with the display in game. I think that if I could eliminate the base overlay it wouldnt affect the model in game, but I dont know how to make a translucent base overlay... I tried numerous renders and always ended up with the same results and I frankly dont know why it is doing this to me. worse comes to worse, i can always import into gmax, but that would take forever to render compared to 40 minutes.
     
    And sorry about the region, I had wiped the drive before I restarted the project and forgot to keep my cities...

    It only looks weird at 3, 4, and 5? Maybe it's a custom LOD problem, those only show up at the closer 3 zooms, above that it uses standard box LODs.

    hmm, ok, I will try and redo the lods again. I cant do the standard box because the area of it is too large and gives a code 6 error, and i cant use the ones i have now because of odd glitches... Oh well, thats life.

    Hmm...If you like you could try sending me the model. I was told that those see through base textures you were asking for are not really textures, what was done is that those texture were deleted through Ilive and so wern't there i.e see through 2.gif

    Ack! Weird in-game problem aside, it looks awesome in game! The last pre-exported pictures looked like an actual photo of T101!

    I am amazed with all the detail. Hope you can get it to work, take as long as ya need 1.gif

    WOOHOO!!!! I got it.  It turns out it was a problems with the lods, something with how the boxes I used to fit it where overlapping, so I made a big box, booleaned it with the old lods, so I had a hollow cutout of the lod, then booleaned that with a standard lod fit box, taking off the edges outside the cutaway, and it works marvelously.

    I dont like how harsh the maxis standard lighting is, but hey its gotta fit into the game and every other building has the harsh lights...

    Alright, here is where it starts to get tricky...

    I have two options for night lights:
    This first one is the one that the tower uses for light shows and special occasions

    And this next one would include individual window lights, the above one would come as is.
    This second one is the standard lighting used for most nights.

    The top one can be released within a couple of weeks and will not require a new computer to finish and render, but the second one could take a while..
