    Alright, lets see what I've got for the roof so far...

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//top.jpg align=baseline>
    Well, that is at least the part that is totally finished modeling
    So far I have also completed the rough outline for the rest of the roof so it should come out pretty quickly:
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//top2.jpg align=baseline>
    Hehe. It looks kinda funny to see the rough outline up against the finished parts, like someone took a picture or the real thing and colored parts of it in.
    And the whole thing, including the mall complex is still only 158,806 polys, and is only now starting to lag on even my slow computer.

    Alright, there shouldnt be much more modeling to do for the top, then I can start to finalize textures and lights.

    This is one complicated BAT. They designed this building for lots of style points in mind.

    Would you please stop that? I just had a look at the Hong Kong BAT team thread, and now this one... What will my colleagues think if I keep running around shirtless on my desk and screaming: Yes! Oh yes! It's nearing completion! ?

    You guys will cost me my job...

    Alright, for todays work we have this

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//top3.jpg align=baseline>
    Up next is the spire, then some finishing up on the mall roof, which will probably be a pretty big challenge given the lack of close up highly defined pictures of the mall roof, and will subsequently be the most inaccurate part (up till now all geometry is at least 90% accurate and most of it is 100%)

    If I could see an in-game shot of a draft render (which you will probably not do because it will take ages even in low quality), I fear I might die due to drooling-induced dehydration...25.gif

    I was actually planning on doing that on saturday night when Im doing anything besides being on the computer, and dont worry, its 3ds max, a full quality render on my laptop will take like 5 hours (if it doesnt have night lights, and unfortunately, the one I plan to do on saturday wont have nightlighting or custom lods...) However, as soon as I can get the new machine, which is still at least a month or two away, this building will have the most asoundingly gorgeous and realistic lights you will have ever seen, I promise.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//daytest%20copy.jpg align=baseline>
    Imagine that, but everywhere, and with shadows from desks, and outside lights... That said, I wont overdo the lights too much.

    whoa, i hope i will be able to see the lights, because if that is true, then this building will be so nice...

    I'm prepared to see the lights. 44.gif

    Looks fantastic! The roof looks very detailed and realistic and so do the lights, but do you really think they should be so blue?

    31.gifYou have some great skills, there are a couple of things in there that I can't figure out how you did it, particularly the splines, you got some simple cross hatch style you can see anywhere, but the big difference is that thenedges are angled so the splines get cut off at the angle where it meets the edge, did you use some sort of slice function? I'm still a newb at 3D modelling and I still haven't learned all the tricks.

    I love coffee and buildings.

    I think if i understand the question correctly, no I didnt use a slice (or boolean operator) function for making the edges meet up. That is one possible way of doing it, but it wouldnt be as precise. I held shift, rotated the wall 90 degrees, told it i wanted three instances of the wall, then went in, by hand and made all the corners match up on both sides of one of the created walls. Since they where instances, they where all affected the same way, so i was able to match up all corners using just one wall...

    hey, since you're planning to make ultra realistic lights, could you make a tutorial on what lights you should use and how to ajust them. I tried several things on my projects but they just don't seem right. Or is it a profession secret?

    Anyway, this looks so awesome and real that i can't believe my eyes!!!

    The techniques I plan to use for it will require a super computer (like 2 gig of 667 ram, pentium 840 extreme processor (not athalon cause pentiums tend to fare better with compression, reading, and writing large amounts if data), dual nvidia geforce 8200 ultra graphics cards... you get the idea) just to adjust and test them, so it wont be for the feint of heart.  Like i said earlier, I plan to get a computer that can handle it in a month or two.  But I guess if I find the time, I can make some tutorials on how to do them, and some easier, less processor intensive methods.

    Progress: The spire is now complete, and even fully texturized (actually, it is the first part of the tower to be totally finalized).
    Before you read any farther, make sure you cover your keyboard with plastic and firmly shut your mouth, I dont want to be responsible for any more damaged keyboards...

    Ok, this has been a while coming, but here you go, the untexturized final version of the tower coupled with the nearly 80% complete mall (the mall's roof is the only part unfinished...)
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//fulltower.jpg align=baseline>
    Edit: The total poly count is 172,232 polys.... I estimate that with the mall roof and random scattered furniture inside it will be around 175,000-180,000, which is really quite low for a building of 101 floor with a mall, and a complex spire, with floors and rooms so the glass can be see-through and furniture...

    *wtf?* are you sure u haven't stolen the 3d-model from the architect who built it in real life?18.gif
    u could use this model in a movie... a little bit bigger and it would fit between some super-tall skyscrapers on coruscant 9.gif i dunno what i should say, i'm speechless 46.gif

    i still have one question:
    you said you make it 100% accurately, but do you build the sections in the shape they really are or just straight and using the taper modifier? that would really interest me cuz long time ago i started a project with windows in a similar shaped way and just wanna know (if you don't taper it) how you get this form.

    I thought you made the base wrong, but if it's onbly part finished then I guess the curving part will come later, eh?

    Amazing model, very realistic.

    You got it vid, the cool thing on top of the mall is still yet to come, but not many pictures show it, so its gonna be hard to do.
