One part of map causing crash. Happen to anyone else?

There seems to be one quite small section of the tile I'm developing that crashes the game if I do anything from put roads to put zones on. I already have laid an avenue, If I attempt to have a road run off it it crashes. Its just strange is all. In my years playing this game I have not encountered this. I am able to keep developing other areas, Its a large tile with 150 000 people and I've only developed 1/3 so hopefully I can keep going.

Has this happened to anyone else?

No even bulldozing over it crashes it. I continued to develop in the other direction and now it crashes when ever a new area of residential towers starts growing. I'll wait to see if loading it on my home computer makes a difference. Its a large map with hundreds of towers on it. I dream of a day I can play simcity to contentment with out it crashing. Which will probably never be, by the time Simcity2013 interests me it'll be buggy as hell as well and not be able to handle huge HD cities.

Maybe you could use the immortality killer. Just place it and demolish it (you could also place it next to the buggy lot). Normally it is used to demolish immortal buildings but it may help with your problem.

Have you ever changed tree controllers in the past?

This is the only case where this happened to me. The trees look as if they were gone after the removal of the old controller, but they are still invisibly there and crash the game when the area gets bulldozed or built over. The easiest way out of that is to install matching MMPs with the trees the removed controller used.

That seems plausible.  The only time I ever had this kind of problem was with a slope mod.  I eventually deleted the region, the slope mod, and started a new region.

Since you are playing on two systems, have you a method to synchronize the files?  You should do this once a week as well as backup the whole user area.

Is Dropbox for the plugin-folder an idea? Seems like an effective but also devious method.

Whatever floats your boat.  I use an off-line HDD.

I've found Dropbox to be reliable.  It's good enough for the NAM team to use.  The only problem is that a free account will only get you maybe 2.5 GB of storage.  And you have to do a few promo things to even get that much.  So if you have a lot of plugins, it's not going to work.  For free anyway.

I've found that many things like free accounts on hosting sites are worth what you pay for them.  I have a paid account on imgur, and everything there is just fine thanks.

If you recommend new users to get more storage.  I think I have something like 19gb of free space left.

On a SC4 related note, can you direct SC4 to read a plugins folder in a dropbox directory?

To use a folder on a remote site via the Internet would be difficult because of the interface.  If you could create a link (short-cut) that would be transparent to the loading process it might work.  Try it and let us know.  In theory a short-cut or link is transparent to the application even if the operating system has to do hand-springs to deliver the data.

To get more space on your HDD, try running the clean-up programs provided by your O/S.  In windows they are called DiskCleanup and DiskDefragmenter.  Windows file system (NTFS) is very poor at cleaning up garbage and consolidating multi-extent files by itself without using utilities.  City files are often fragmented because of the way the file system works.

In windows to get to these utilities, open My Computer and right click on the disk drive icon.

So, what happened when you tried it?

Hmmm, that is all quite interesting. I have a 50gb Dropbox, got the extra storage with my phone. I just use a USB to transfer the plug in folders when I need. Usually I'm only getting 1-2 extra plugs for exact situations I work on so it's easy to remember and move. Otherwise if I do drastic changes I delete one whole folder and replace it with the other which is what I've just done. The only issue with keeping the folders on Dropbox would be that I travel and don't always have internet.

Oh and my stability issues are completely resolved, it was missing trees then I discovered my laptop version didn't have the latest patch. Thanks to everyone for their help. There is nothing worse then looking forward to playing Simcity all day just to have it crash and use all your free time sorting bugs.

You've found the most important thing, which is to keep your game residency in Program Files synchronized.  If these directories are identical in all respects, the game plays the same on either whether the user areas are in sync is up to you.
