Update 6 Changes Currently in Testing

We are testing changes to how RCI works in the game in response to feedback directly from our players. The main goals are to make Industrial matter more and make sure the demand bars inform players what they should zone.

• New: RCI Tuning - Tuning to make Industrial needed more. Commercial buildings lose profit if they don’t have enough freight. The demand bars should feel like they inform the player what they should zone.
• New: RCI height variations for Density 3 Buildings. This will add more variety to the look of your cities.
• New: Borderless windowed mode setting.
• Fixes for some issues of the “out of money” problem or unexplained abandonment.
• Clarity around unfilled jobs and workers to make sure players are messaged that there may be an issue where workers cannot get to unfilled jobs.
• Residential and Commercial buildings are now more consistently in the same wealth in an area of a particular land value. Improves visually consistency.
• Help Wanted, no Shoppers, and No Jobs alerts have been added to the Zoning info panel as alerts.
• Data Layer: Greater map accuracy on the land value map. Residential and Commercial wealth colors added. Abandoned buildings show up red.
• Data Layer: Land Value map shows when placing parks.
• Fixed issue where RCI sometimes builds on roads.
• Fix performance slowdown in cities with more than one million tourists.
• UI Clarity: Show which city hall modules are already placed in the region on the palette UI.
• Garbage UI: fixed issue where garbage UI sometimes showed bins that had already been picked up.
• Gifting: Cash gifts will send to another city even if a player leaves the gifting city before seeing gift confirmation.

Game is crashing every 20-30 mins since update 5.0.....Don't see that even mentioned.

Maybe check your system settings, I play for much longer than that without any issues.

Pretty small update but good to see they are creating variation in building size height and fixing the RCI on roads issue.

• UI Clarity: Show which city hall modules are already placed in the region on the palette UI.

This is also a huge improvement.

Give me a break...I am a systems architect, it only happened after 5.0 (Many others also if you check EA's forum), it's because of the update, MY PC works perfectly fine with every other game/software and is very well maintained.

^Just a suggestion. As stated before, I have no issues playing 150K+ population cities on my PC for long periods of time. Are you attempting new cities or ones on different servers? Probably won't make too much of a difference but NA East 1 and West 1 have not faltered for me since 5.0

Hope 6.0, even though it doesn't mention it, helps your situation out.

So they're not fixing the issue w/ the trade trucks?

I don't think I like the proposed requirement for industry without being able to import freight for shops. In my oil-drilling plastic-creating city I simply have no room for industry, but I'd be happy to buy stuff for my shops (if traffic allows trucks to drive, where are the improvements that prevent 8 buses driving to a single bus stop simultaneously while there is only 1 passenger waiting?)

I have been having the same issue.. although the length of time before hang-ups varies. Sometimes I can go for an hour or more, sometimes 15 minutes. And yes, it's something which only started with update 5.0 for me as well.

Frustrating and inconvenient, to say the least.

So, now we NEED industry in the same sized cities???

Yeah... I have no idea how they plan to make it work considering firstly, just how many jobs it requires because RCI isn't at all balanced when it comes to workers and jobs. And secondly this patch is going to break almost every single city people have made because I wasn't required.

All due respect to those posting but, but the complaint I have seen the most is that RCI is broken.  The question in my mind is what counts as freight?

Freight is what factories, I, produce. When it is sent to a C, shop, it becomes goods or souvenirs. It also goes into Specialization buildings, but it turns into... well nothing.

Probably a leftover from a scraped concept somewhere between: "hey EA, we still need a year to make this", and "Maxis, publish that thing tomorrow or you're fired."

Why would a city desperately need industry? Surely you should be able to build cities which import the goods or act as commercial hubs etc etc and let the player deal with the problems this creates. Making it so you must have industry is just silly

It's the obvious solution to the "Happy! Leaving the city" problem -  once all your commercial goes bust due to 'not enough freight' then no pesky shoppers will be able to buy happiness :P

Well, yeah.  However will electronics be freight?  Will they let you import freight in the trade centers?  How they implement this will tell the tale.  However I'm waiting for something that means something.  The game was working fine for me.   And when I played it last after patch 5 Armageddon didn't come down and wreck my cities. But if they don't add some content and an offline mode then I've gotten everything that I find useful from it.  As it stood when I quit playing I had no traffic issues, no money issues, no gifting issues, and could pretty much do whatever I felt like doing.  At which point it lost my interest.  I suspect that the number of players has dropped off on their servers.  And old farts like me don't get to answer surveys.

It's a good point re importing freight. I hope that would be the solution. I like the idea of having industry as the backbone of a city and a viable alternative to specialisation.

Im sure that my cities kind of import frieght anyway....  Most of my big cities have a lack of industry...  and atm, commercial is quite happy to play along as they dont NEED freight but they would LIKE it.... As soon as you build a second city and say, produce lots of industry.... frieght trucks flood to the non industrial citiy clogging up highways...

Its not a major problem but a problem that can can have other consequences in my non industrial city... ie building freight depots at my city entrance

Im asuming now that commecial sites will HAVE to have frieght in order to produce goods and be able to satisfy shoppers....

One million?  I'm seeing serious lag at 50k.  Core i7, 12GB, nVidia GTX680 and it's only an issue with tourists, nothing else.  Am I missing something?

I am really hoping that Update 6.0 makes freight a resource that can be traded on the Global Market. This will increase profits of industrial cities while allowing clean, commercial cities to continue to function (at a reduced income). --Ocram

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3
