First of all, I am quite new to simcity. So, I went on the wiki and found out how to generate power and that you have to use power lines to spread power, but I found out they take up to much space (I had to make gaps in my residential areas). So is there an efficient way of disturbiting power without power lines?

More efficient way?

By zoning areas and building next to already powered buildings. Every building has its own power radius and power is distributed freely through their borders as long as they are already powered. Of course buildings/districts that are far from main powered part of city still need to have power lines, but as you build more and more, less lines are needed. Other tip, power lines can touch already powered zones/buildings and transfer power to distant areas.

Just turn on Power view from Mayor Menu and you'll see what I'm talking.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Man, this explains a lot, since i was looking at other people's cities and saw barely any power lines.

If you don't want to use pylons, these are a handy alternative:

They're especially useful to connect rural areas to the main power network, while still maintaining a level of realism.

Here's a few more I've used in the situation I didn't want the huge power lines running through an area.

Anther good way to connect power like the conduits, but more setting to run along roads in rural areas connecting the distant houses

And these are for smaller localized power if you don't want a huge power plant in the city

Here's a link to a forum thread on SC4D about power lines. Gonna sift through this one to see if there are any goodies to be had that didn't make it to public STEX, or LEX. ;)

Though I personally like having the power lines run through my region to add to the realism. There are plenty of long stretching high power lines running through my local area.

I sort of have an affinity for power lines. Spent a few hours taking pictures of all the power lines at the Hoover Dam a few years ago. Something is mesmerizing about them.

Even have the JRJ Street Mod that has curbside power lines running down my city's streets. You can see them in some of the pics I've posted in the "Show Me" section of the forurm.
