For a half a second I was thinking of Bullet For My Valentine but I don't know anything by My Bloody Valentine.

Getting back to Yoshi's question, no I am not a fan. I'm mostly a fan of classical music.

Ahhh nap time music.

Unless you consider this classical, then I'd call it classic.

This as well

And this

This too

And lastly this.

As classical as it gets.

Rap should have gone out with the 90s like disco went out with the 70s. The fact that it didn't is one key reason why current popular music sucks.

How dare you compare the music of life to hippie dance music?

The gall of people.... Expression of life does not = Shake on dance floor with giant afro.

Disco never had anything to do with hippies. Wrong decade. :P

And while the two genres don't have much in the way of stylistic similarity, they do have in common that they were fun for a while but then got tiresome and needed to go away. Disco did. Rap didn't.

The thing of it is, I have nothing against the concept of rapping. If done properly it can be good. The problem is there really aren't any popular rappers out there other than Eminem who fit the description of doing it properly (I'd say Linkin Park as well but they're a rock group that occasionally raps a bit).

Good rap, like all good music, is emotionally stimulating - it expresses some form of happiness or sadness, love or anguish... it does not just sing about getting drunk, having sex, or being violent and call itself a hit. Other genres are guilty of this as well but rap is particularly lacking in songs that do not fit this bad description.

The best example I can think of of a horrible rap song is "Shots" by LMFAO. Who the hell wants to listen to someone angrily and aggressively yell "if you ain't takin' shots, get the {bleep} out of da club!"? How would you like it if some dude got in your face and yelled that at you?

The big mistake here is that if you are going to yell and scream in a song, you have to make it known somehow who you are yelling at. If you are just yelling at anyone and everyone, that includes the listener - and that makes listening to the song unpleasant because I do not appreciate being yelled at, especially since I hate hard liquor and being yelled at that I'm not welcome because of that is positively charming.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

Heard. That song is terrible and that is why rap in general has declined. The crowds at the clubs actually want to hear songs like the aforementioned one. I've mentioned this before but if I see one of my dj friends doing a gig when I'm out and about, asking him to play a track that isn't popular is a long shot, even it is rather club friendly and in turn, appropriate. The reason crappy music sells is because people are buying.

I don't know if I agree with you on your Linkin Park opinion. Their flow always struck me as pretty weak, but I've never actually bought an album by them. I have heard quite a bit of their music and even saw them play once. They are better at rock than they are at rap, but they definitely aren't on my list of favorite artists, so perhaps I'm biased.

I dislike no style of music.

"Music expresses that which can not be put into words and which cannot remain silent" - Victor Hugo.

Variety in music is good.

In YouTube videos featuring classic rock songs, there are comments like "I was born in the wrong decade" or "I'm 13 and think this is real music". Well, nice to see these comments because a lot of the younger generations are listening to trash, (e.g. Justin Bieber) but I think it's too repetitive. Nowadays, we usually see it flagged as spam with some thumbs ups and stuff due to repetitiveness. There are also trolls who pretend to oppose classic rock and like garbage music better. Heck, one of my brothers trolled classic rock videos on YouTube once! :P

This is ridiculous, Rap isn't a love ballad or dance music, it is a story of the life of the person, getting through hard times as a gang member and living to tell the tale, about all the fallen soldiers that lost their lives on the street, about dealing with drug addictions, the stuff the main stream media loves to ignore, the realities of living real life.

Its uncut and raw because life is not a censored movie, people die, people become things they don't want to be, people struggle, anyone living life with the idea it is a Disney movie needs to take those glasses off.

Rap is like CNN (Capone-N- Noreaga)  Reporting from the sidelines first hand on what really goes down.

Many people don't get it cause they can't speak in analogies.
