My wife finally got her visa, so we're heading up to the UP- I mean, *ahem* Upper Peninsula on Sunday to hunt for a dwelling.  I'm pretty pumped, it was a tough few weeks alone with our kids.

That is a lot of money! Did it have a couple of wealthy philanthropic backers, or is it just that popular?

5104.

Not entirely sure, I only pledged $60 cause I don't really care about junky nick nack things, but there were nearly 70,000 backers, Some guy trolled and dropped his pledge 10,000 in the final moments, It has been 14 years so it was a joke you heard on the internet along with Duke Forever and Half Life 3.

Oh and Dr. Dre's Detox of course.

Daaaad I have to pee, I gotta pee I gotta pee I gotta pee, I'm hungry, I need to pee, are we there yet?, I need to pee , are we there yet?, I want to go home, I need to pee I'm hungry, are we there yet?

It's a small miracle that you don't hear of more Dad's driving the family car into a tree.

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

As an adult I have spent basically the entire day driving for as much as two weeks straight. I love it. It's awesome. I always fantasized about doing such things as a child.

But I would never have tolerated doing such a thing as a child despite fantasizing about it for one very basic reason - the point of enjoyment is spending all that time driving i.e. being behind the wheel. If I had made the same trip but had to be in the passenger seat the whole way, I would have been bored to death and become unbearable to deal with a few days in. So while I may lament that my family never took me on any epic road trips when I was younger, I realize they could not have. It wouldn't have been fun for any of us.

Interestingly, though, my girlfriend was perfectly content to be in the passenger seat for a whole week with me driving. I don't know how she managed but I love that she did.

Agreed, she likes you and you should take advantage of that while you can(meaning driving), after sometime she may still be around but she will be less likely to put up with being a passenger.  Fingers crossed it works out well for you bud.

ok on a side note, that term fingers crossed, it can be positive and negative? Like the way I wrote it was in a positive like I'm hopeful for you but I also know of the phrase of Fingers crossed behind your back for when telling a lie. Which is negative to me like what I say with my fingers crossed is not the truth. So would the correct way for me to say it be "no fingers crossed it works out well"?   Or does anyone know what crossing fingers means or implies?

Driving is pretty awesome. I'm taking a short road trip to Columbus, OH tomorrow. Why, you ask? To see my favorite band, Deftones, for the 9th time. This will be the first time seeing them since 2010. Yeah, I'm pretty psyched. I love their music so much. New album in September too!

My understanding is that crossing ones fingers has two different and unrelated meanings depending on how it is done.

Crossing your fingers as a gesture in view of the listener means you are hoping something good will happen or hoping something bad won't happen. Crossing your fingers behind your back while making a promise serves as a hidden signal to your friends behind you that you have no intention of keeping it.

My computer has yet to give me any sort of nag that I can upgrade.

Which is fine by me because I have no interest in doing so. Never mess with a computer that's functioning just fine by installing a new OS on it that it wasn't designed for, I say.

Almost 11 years after its release, I finally finished Half-Life 2.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

It took me a good bit of time to beat Super Mario 64.  Some games do that.  Some don't, like how I recently played Kid Icarus: Uprising in less than a month (despite the difficulty)

Also, I'm getting a new computer.  This one's a piece of garbage.

I beat Duke Nukem Forever. Didn't go in expecting it to be good, just enjoyed the ride. I was just glad I only rented it and didn't waste my money on buying it.

*edit* Woah! Since when can you have gif avatars?!

Animated GIF avatars definitely were supported for most of ST's history. I think the ability to have them was only lost recently (with the upgrade?) but was recently brought back via tinkering.

I had a couple animated avatars myself in days of yesteryear.
