My first gaming experience was some various games of Atari 2600 in the late of the 80's. My first P.C. game was a futuristic strategy game, The 3rd Millennium. I guess I was a futurism enthusiast back then too.

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

The first game I really played was Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, around 2002, I think. That was on our first computer (and with a 2 GHz P4, HD of 40 GB and memory of 256 MB, it was incredibly powerful - and expensive). Later came a version of Simcity 3000 (after I played The Sims, there was an ad for SC3K in the box and I was curious).

The original Rollercoaster Tycoon was an awesome game. Only real complaint is that I wish it had a free play mode.

Never played either of the sequels, though.

I will never forget age of empires 2, one of the first PC games I ever played, we had them on one of the school computers when I was in middle school, then when we FINALLY got XP PCs, I may or may not have installed Halo on their PC when no one was looking :P

Get RCT3 too. It had the best variety of rides and coasters.

IRL I haven't ridden many roller coasters. I've been to Hersheypark, and I went on a few there but nothing too big. Going to Herhey and not riding the Comet is like going to New York without seeing the Empire State Building.

When I found RCT I was hooked immediately. RCT2 was also great but I never got to the third.

My first video game was Donkey Kong on Coleco Vision. I also had Smurfs. I still have the console and the games.

The third version of RCT was a bit disappointing (I did still buy it, as part of a software bundle). It didn't have the same 'magic feeling' as the other versions. I played a lot of Age of Empires II and III too :D

I haven't played those either.

When I was a kid my parents would usually get me at least 2 or 3 new games for Christmas. Because of that, I still have this odd desire to sit inside and play video games this time of year. I have a feeling the N64 will come out of the closet some time this month.

I'm the sort of person who needs to feel like I'm achieving something when I play a game. This means once I've beaten or 100%ed the game (or gotten as close to that as I reasonably am capable of), I tend to toss it aside and not touh it much after that because as far as I'm concerned, I finished with it and there's nothing left to do.

This means that multiplayer games (such as Super Smash Bros) or free play games (such as SimCity) tend to have more staying power since you never reach a point where you can say you're truly "finished".

I had more exposure to the original Playstation than I did to the N64. More people that I knew had a PS1, and the fact that the PS2 could still play PS1 games (complete backwards compatibility - what a concept, eh?) kept them alive longer.

The N64 did produce some great games, although I still insist that its flagship title (Super Mario 64) is highly overrated. For that matter, any Mario title after Super Mario World just doesn't do it for me. Fancy graphics, non-tingy music, and 3D environments destroy what made Mario Mario.

We had a rule against that, Especially during slappers only that was ultra cheating.

Alac Trevelyn was my dude, however I wasn't the Sean Bean of the game, I didn't die in every game :P

I thought they got better after that. Ad the music in the later ones? Fabulous. Mario Galaxy has my all time favorite soundtrack for a video game. My favorite N64 game is definitely Majora's Mask though. No matter how creepy the fan theories get (eg. Game takes place in purgatory).

The thing of it is, my first experience with Mario came before the N64 existed. So I got used to the NES games. Then when Super Mario 64 came out, I remember playing it and thinking "what the hell is this?". It was very different from the Mario I knew and I didn't like that.

I imagine that someone too young to remember a time before the N64 would be unlikely to have this opinion. :P

2363: There will always be weird theories. An interesting one I've read is that the five levels of Majora's Mask represents the five stages of grief.

Weird fan theories will always exist for everything. In basic, the purgatory theory says he died in the Lost Woods at the beginning of the game, and he went through the stages of grief to the Stone Temple, where he accepts his fate. That, and in later games the quote "Believe in your strengths" is said by various undead characters. Creepy.

Fan theories are fun, but the real creepy thing with video games is stuff like Lavender Town, even if it is fake. It's still a good read, but having it be real is not as important in a horror story.

2367: It's interesting how one can interpret the stories and gather interesting ideas from them.

On a different note, I had one of my diners on my table propose tonight. Apparently my service set the mood and the right time to do such. :3

The only Zelda game I really played was Ocarina of Time. I enjoyed playing that game. I still think Super Mario 64 was better than Super Mario Bros. 2. Where was Bowser in that one? You simply must have Bowser involved! I didn't have the Super NES so I never played any of those Mario games.

It's snowing in Pittsburgh so I am not leaving the house today. Maybe a walk later but I'm expecting Amazon.com deliveries. I hate worrying about my neighbors or passers by jacking the packages on my stoop so maybe I should hang around.

The Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 was not ever released for the NES in the US (although it was later released here on Wii Virtual Console). Primary reason was that Nintendo of America believed the game was too difficult and frustrating for an American Audience.

What we know as Super Mario Bros. 2 was a Japanese game called DokiDoki Panic that Nintendo of America took, pasted Mario and friends over the original protagonists, and then released in the US as SMB2. So if that doesn't feel like a Mario game, that's because... well, it isn't!
