File version:      3.0.0.0

That's for my system. Yours should say the same except for time. You can not play a previous version. The server will update your game if needed. It don't ask, it just updates it.

The "right hand turn on red" is also a good idea, but isn't that an American thing?

Probably. Started in California, I think, and worked so well that most states have it now.

I knew it there's some problem with my game. Mine is still stuck at 2.0.0.0 and I am still able to play the game. Going to reinstall the game and see what happens then.

The pollution fix to the pollution fix works for me. No deaths, no crime, fires still burn buildings closest to fire station though:)

I just noticed there are no protesters at City Hall, never seen that before. Zooming in to see if I could find them, I noticed the clock on City Hall and it keeps correct time (I'm not very observant).

In reality though, fire station proximity doesn't diminish the chances of a building catching fire, it only improves the response time of the fire trucks...unless you meant buildings closest to the fire station seem to burn down without service at all.

Good to see pollution work. That was ruining one of my cities.

Yeah, that's what I meant, Seems buildings closest to the station burn with or without service. Could just be me though.

The staggered start times aren't as bad as everyone here is making them out to be. They are only staggered within the commute windows, so instead of everyone dumping out into the streets at 6am, they wander out between 6am and maybe 8am I think, not sure on the exact window. It's OK if not everyone leaves at exactly the same time.

Ah! That does make sense. I was imagining people leaving at 1:00 pm and coming back after sundown, with cars constantly occupying streets all day. Have they done anything in terms of recreational traffic (people going to stores during the daytime, bars at night, etc.?)

Probably. Started in California, I think, and worked so well that most states have it now.

Since 1980, all states have allowed it, except at noted intersections (and New York City). Conversely, European Union doesn't allow it EXCEPT when noted. (Wikipedia)

Anybody else having issues with Bus Depots after the patch?  My traffic got worse with the Bus Depots vesus the Bus Shuttles because 1) all of the out of town buses clogging my lanes, and 2) I actually saw 20 buses doing u turns to go immediately back to the Bud Depots to start a never ending loop.  After I shut off the Depots, and turned on Bus shuttles instead, my traffic cleared up in about a day.

DrBob: I've had that same problem since the very beginning of this game, no patch ever seems to fix that for me. I would love to have 2 things, the ability to draw my own bus routes, and assign individual buses and stops to the routes, and the ability to ban out-of-town transit buses from serving my local commuters. The regional coach-style buses are ok, but having another city's transit buses clogging my roads is no fun, seriously, get back to your own city. In other threads I've suggested "assigning" transit and school busses in the region window like you already do for fire trucks, garbage trucks, etc.

Livinginthepast: I haven't actually noticed when the shoppers leave specifically, that's a good thing to check on.

SockoJr53,

All I'm saying is thankfully the streetcars work really well if one lays out the streetcar Avenues correctly, if not for them, I would have given up.

I am torn on Regional busses. I have a city that has a neighbors busses transporting people in and out no problem. BUT they do loop on streets yet my traffic isn't bad because of my zoning (R ALWAYS across from C)

because of my zoning (R ALWAYS across from C)

across? as in one side of the street you have 10 R and across the street 5 C ? with no streets that connect them vertically ?

I agree on fire truck response time...as in the station realizing soon enough that a fire has broke out.  It's pretty slow.

One thing I've noticed twice were disasters span on the city....the lizard started almost from one corner of my city and went all the way to the opposite corner for the dump.  En route to the was my electronics spec. and industry!!  Wowser, talk about a rebuild.  I also had quite the lengthy tornado as well.

Garbage trucks follow each other like ants

The region is still broke when it comes to education.  I thought this was taken care of in 2.0.

Otherwise, traffic is moving well and the rest of the fixes seem to be working much better!!

On my machine it's in - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCity\SimCity.exe". If you don't want to navigate folders;

Right click the SimCity icon and choose Properties.

In the Properties window, click the "Open File Location" button.

Right click on SimCity.exe and click Properties.

Click the Details tab on the Properties window.

I have the "quests" (The Fireworks and the block party, etc) turned off.  Have they been changed any to make it worth turning them back on?

My traffic seemed to improve. I decided to go for a bus-only transit strategy, so I have 3 bus depots running 24 buses each for a grand total of 72 municipal buses. Traffic used to be completely stopped in my downtown district before the patch, now it moves (albeit slowly). I also noticed school attendance going up, crime going down, less fires burning out of control, and garbage started getting picked up again. No phantom pollution at all. Managed to get a city up to half a million Sims with all wealth classes present and all three zone types.

Not until service vehicles actually work, in my opinion.  I dont think I've ever seen a fire truck actually save a house from a fire.  I still always end up b'dozing...hehe...the building after the fire.

We simply cannot say whether our traffic "works" or "does not work" after a patch update.... Some mechanics behind traffic has changed, so if one city's layout worked really well pre 3.0 patch, but doesn't work so well after the patch, then I would say it is poor road design with the UPDATED mechanics.  This must mean you might have to UPDATE your road design.  After every patch update, I start a new region.  (though I am only playing on the 3 5 and 7 city regions solo for now).

Unfortunately at this point, this game has to be played suited around how each function particularly works, thus limiting a total creative environment.

I have done the same, and have not even TRIED to go back to my others.

I have 2 regions I play consistently, both private (i know...) One for 2.0 and a new 16 city region for 3.0. My 2.0 region is the 7 city islands where I am trying out road techniques with the "road editing" by means of the SHIFT key.

My 3.0 region has just one city, and almost NO traffic other than shuttles, police, ambulances, fire and garbage trucks.

I agree you cannot say all is well/woe is me based off old designs.

It must be frustrating, as you shouldn't need to change road designs every update. (Hint: what works in reality?)

Hopefully someday they can fix the traffic simulator (before we get to it) so that cars will not always go the shortest way, as opposed to the faster way.

But then if that's true, the side streets will be empty as people try to force their way down the freeway. The ideal solution is to create an intelligent system where if traffic is high, instead of agents "giving up" and having the "trip fail", they simply seek an alternate direction. This will inevitably lead to the problem (realistic, I assure you) of people going up and down side streets to avoid busy thoroughfares. Comes with the territory.

I used to think (and this bottomed as the game released) that SimCity (5) was just getting worse and worse, but now I'm starting to see some real potential. Unfortunately, I think that the game we'd like to see is still a ways off.

I have to admit I am replying after only the second bulletin. Does it strike anyone else odd how there is uncertainty in their statement about [changes] making traffic smarter? It "should" or it "will", Maxis? Is this stuff even getting tested before its shoved out the door?

It's because everyone's city and layout is different. If you have a inefficient transit system, then there's a chance that the inefficiency is something on your part and not a bug.

Wonder when they'll address the city tile size issue...

    Metropolis expansion pack

City sizes expanded by 0.25 Km for only $29.99 :)

For all of the gaffes that EA has been making, I don't think they would be that stupid.

Not that an EA executive hasn't thought about it though, but I think this is a line they wouldn't cross.  They are learning - look at how much emphasis they put on the core of Sims 4 being offline/single-player.  They wanted everybody to know that it would not be forced online requirements.

What concerns me is that city size and modding has been pushed way out, especially in light of EA laying off 10% of their employees.   They obviously need to get the game straightened out first, but what happens if that takes several more months, and they have already committed people to another SC or other project?

I would like to think that since they consider SimCity to now be a service of sorts, that they will bring in everything they have promised.

I think what they should do is allow modding, this in turn could allow the community to help with bug fixes.

They want this to be a social game? Crowd-sourcing via a mod community is the perfect way to make this game more accessible and social. Plus it could potentially cut down on their man power. I'm thinking like GitHub mixed with Steam Workshop.

    • Trees: Trees now last longer, but also do not eliminate as much ground pollution.

    Mad+baby.jpg

I believe they want to discourage people to create lots of ground pollution and fix it later

Also noticed that the game's fps has improved after this update
