Seriously guys, I want to know how you get the cloudy skies and what not instead of that grid behind my cities.

If this is in the wrong place, then move it, don't delete it mods.

Download a background mod and place the files in the Plugins folder in Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4/Plugins.

Take the old background files that are already there and store them somewhere safe in case you need them back.

And in the future please only post a topic once.  Thanks and good luck!

Don't worry, I've deleted the duplicate topic.

It's quite common, and is usually caused by a delayed response (by the server) when posting. :)

I know this is an old post.. however.. I can't find the Maxis file and I don't know where else to ask. I've un-hid all files, etc. It's not showing. Can someone help me with this please?

I use windows 10 and Steam download of SC4 Deluxe. I was able to use Galaxy Background Mod v20 because it has an installer. Even with that I wasn't able to force the Maxis file to show.

It's wherever you installed it, lots of people will discuss the "default path", which was Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4. However, most users have moved from the old disks that used that path and digital editions invariably get stuffed somewhere inside the vendor's folder, for example Steam installs all games under Program Files (x86)\Steam something or other.

Note the part in red, more info on why that's important below if you care, just know SC4 will be in Program Files (x86), not the folder you've shown.

    Spoiler

Back in the days before Windows Vista, almost everyone used a 32-bit OS, Program Files was the default folder for, you've guessed it, programs to be installed. But, 64-bit versions of Windows, now the most common type, have to support both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Thus if you have a 64-bit version of Windows, Program Files is for 64-bit applications now, a new folder Program Files (x86) is used for 32-bit programs. It get's even more complex, since in the registry their are also different "folders" which handle both types.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Not seeing Maxis under x86 neither. Followed install path from the installer.. no Maxis. Could it be named something else??

I found it! There is no Maxis file. I still can't change the regional bg but I can at least change the city bg. I'll take that *  TY for all of your help :)

    Path=

     C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Plugins
