Bumping after 10 minutes?! That's annoying. You can wait longer than that.

If you're talking cable cars as you find at ski resorts and suchlike, that may be possible...but if you're talking cablecars as found in San Francisco, that might not be workable as you'd have to redraw all the roads (with the track in them), and create a whole new transport system.. The same goes for trams too (which is a shame)....

They might be able to be made as part of the NAM. The fact that it runs on cables didn't help, though.

For now, why don't you use the gondolas available here: http://ww6.enjoy.ne.jp/~hidemasa/file.html

The power lines connect into the ski lodge, and then you place a 1x1 lot next to the lines. This will put a gondola onto the power lines for you. k?

Sorry to break the proverbial bubble but there can never be any new networks in the game, and its very very doubtful that we can have multiple types of powerlines... only replacements

you might be able to put trams in the GLR mod, but I imagine you'd have to sacrifice another type of network travel like trains to do it, since it would probably replace them all

It could work like the electricity pilons/ power poles in the game.

Along with Karybdis' comments, I'm wondering how practical cable cars would be. I mean, I wouldn't be opposed to them being available -- they're pretty cool and would make for a good novelty or tourist item in a city. But as far as moving sims about, they seem like they'd be very ineffective. They don't hold very many people, do they?

Detroit has been considering one to cross the Detroit River between the city and Windsor, Canada, but that's just a tourist attraction. Same with the Dusquesne Incline in Pittsburgh. And the only other places I've seen these are amusement parks or ski resorts. Are they ever used for actual commuter transportation?

Something like San Francisco's trolleys might be nice, but we already have the GLR.

Well they would be a nice addition to Sim City but is it possible is the question.

It is neither possible to create a new network system nor an additional train. So if someone creates a cable car system, it is only usable by replacing an existing network. Custom trains are just skins for an existing train and puzzle pieces can only be made to carry an existing network service (pedestrians, road traffic, trains, lightrail trains, monorail trains).

I know many people which don't use the monorail system because they don't see a sense in it. It may be modded to become a mountain transport service if there are people who want it. Alternatives to a cable car system may also be rack railways or furnicular railways (that is nearly the same like cable cars but not not going on streets and without level crossings. Furniculars are built very often in Austria and Switzerland).

To realize that, you have to create replacement models for every possible monorail tile and to repath it using 0 as Z-coordinate of the monorail paths. This can be made as an independant Mod which can be used with or without the NAM but it may replace the whole monorail system.

Here is an example of what you can do to get a transit substitute for a gondola.

    smoncrie%20gondola.jpg

Lots and/or props could be used to make it look more like a gondola.

I did this by starting with the bus station lot in the Lot Editor.  I removed all the props and changed the depth of the lot to a value large enough to reach the top of the mountain. I set the lot Max Elevation and the Foundation Threshold to large values.  I placed transparent/invisible textures on all the tiles to make most of the lot invisible.

The new lot inherits the bus station

Is it somehow possible to force teleporting by using custom paths with huge X or Y coordinates reaching the border of a tile a few fields away (24,40,56,[8+n*16])?

I tried this with a GLR puzzle piece in the afternoon to try to teleport a tram to the tile on the opposite side of a bridge but without success.
