Four Fire Stations vs. One Large Fire Station

I can only find one advantage of a large fire station (no University in city) and that is fire marshals. It would cheaper, both initial cost and hourly to place four regular fire stations rather than a large station, provided the fire trucks don't cause traffic problems, more advantageous? Do fire marshals actually prevent the number of fires?

One advantage the large fire station has is it's fire helicopters, though. They are pretty darn efficient; as long as you can afford the upkeep costs. Fire marshals, meh, I've never really noticed a difference in the amount of fires my city has after placing them, but I'm sure they reduce them by at least 2 if not 4 a day. Education helps lessen the occurrence of fires too though.

If you have high tech industry the hazmat truck is good.  Other than that multiple fire stations will work.

Considering how fire trucks work atm, your city can be fine with a single small fire station with 1 or in EXTREME 2 fire trucks. Since they almost all go to the same fire and put them out one by one there really isn't much point in having more then one fire truck.

Yes, I've noticed that. Wonder if the same thing happens with more than one station?

Regular industry can also have hazmat fires, but I wasn't planning on building an university, unless it makes me. :)

You can get the response time down with the large fire station but that too doesn't mean a whole lot because you can't put out more than one fire at a time.

So, with three fires and three fire stations, only one fire will be put out?

Each fire station can only put out 1 fire at a time due to a bug.

The large fire stations also have bigger fire trucks with longer hoses.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.

I plop a big fire station when I'm ready to expand industry.  Which almost never happens because I've learned the only real reason to have industry is to create jobs.  Which apparently I never need.

Most importantly, space is at a premium in this game. So a large fire station saves you a lot of space as opposed to 4 small fire stations. In this space you can place a casino (for example) which earns you money. In this game space equals money.

Traffic can trap firetrucks at their station. But if one puts a garage on right turn traffic accessible roads, this is easily stymied. Small stations over large ones, btw.

I have noticed this and read it in other posts but, it never "sunk in". Thanks for the input, I appreciate it and will do this in the future.

You know I guess simuleons are real d***s.  I've never seen traffic not get out of the way for flashing blue lights...

Any industried can have hazmat fires, but it occurs on higher density build much more often than the lower ones

My fire trucks often go to more than just one fire at the same time, so i don't think it's 100% bugged. But I do think it would be better if only one truck was dispatched if only a single building is on fire.

I put small fire trucks in opposite corners of the map so that if there are multiple fires, it will be handled better.

I also don't bother adding any other trucks because they both go to the same place (even during multiple, randomly spread, small fires) and don't seem to give any benefit for both of them being there.

I build the large station if I build high density industry, but I never do.

It would appear that other than the "Fire Marshal" and Ladder Trucks, the large fire station is just one big expense and actually no help at all. If the fire marshal and ladder trucks don,t work or don't help, then it is nothing but an expense. If they don't go to the same fires, then four fire stations (or 1,600/hr) would be better than one large fire station which costs1,700/hr as a bare bones and cost a lot less.

Edit: Well, I tried it and can tell everyone... don't do it. Apparently the fire generating agent  :D  generates fires per station and all four fire trucks go to the same fire, maybe that will be fixed with the 2.0 patch.

Fire Service: Fire Trucks don’t clump, dispatch to fires more efficiently.

I'll test out Mon or Tue.

I can't say I have ever noticed a hazmat fire with high tech industry.  For me hazmat fires only occur in low tech industry.

It appears that HazMat fires occur in High Density industry, low or high tech. Just don't upgrade to high density and there will be no hazmat fires.

None. Maxis dude is the one you want, he flies to every fire if there are more than one and extinguishes them in 1 or 2 seconds, last night found out that he extinguishes hazmat fires too. Hazmat fires are Tech3 buildings, doesn't matter what density.

What I started to do since I've found out about Maxis is to get him the quickly, early in the town's life you have plenty of sick people to have him curing them and giving him lots of "fame" points, then when he upgrades to criminal hunter you can just shut down police for a couple of days and send him chasing them (watch the laser fights! awesome stuff :P), when you get enough points for the flying thing, you just sit him there, when you see the red helmet click on him and you can send him to kill fires.

I've never ever needed more than 1 small fire station, 1 police station, and 1 clinic.  These tend to be good up til 400k or so with good traffic management.  Spend the money elsewhere on education instead.  Educated Sims reduces the need for all three.
