They're at it again! EA and Maxis hard at work attempting to further alienate their customers!! At first I though they were just trying to dig their own graves, but now I see the bigger picture, they're trying to dig to China.

After all the garbage they've given us, sounds like EA and Maxis are on the way to suicide......"selling toothbrushes"????...............LLOLL

I'm through with both anyways.

Talk about over reacting in this thread.

EA is not the first gaming company to do cross promotions with other companies and products.

Nearly every gaming company has done this to date.

You didn't hear Pokemon fans complain about cross promotions with Gamestop to get special Pokemon...

Instead of the Maxis Dev team spending time on creating this new content (same as the Nissan Leaf stuff), shouldn't they be focussing on fixing the basic gameplay issues first?

It's not related.

But usually they at least do it with a product that is connected with gaming (a game store), or is so ubiquitous its moslty a non-issue like ( a Soda brand). This is the first that I remember that has next to no connection to the game.

SimCity is a game that is appealing to a very broad audience. Everyone needs a toothbrush or toothpaste, not everyone has heard about the fact that there is a new SimCity out there. It's not only a promotion for crest, but also an (probably cheap?) advertisement for SimCity targeting broad masses.

It would be an overreaction if this was an isolated incident, but most people see it in the context of the horrendous launch of an unfinished game by a company that has openly lied to its customers, then released 2 cringe-worthy advertising DLCs before fixing their broken product. For another game in another set of circumstances, this reaction wouldn't have happened. But in these particular circumstances it's entirely understandable.

I just read about the Nissan Leaf thing, and it does make me cringe, same with the toothpaste promotions.

In reading about this travesty, it says that it "unlocks" it. I think that this DLC was already IN your paid product all along.

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

This was probably done before launch.

Do you really think the people who designed these are the same ones tasked with fixing it?

You guys do realize Maxis has multiple teams tasked with different games and activities.

They do have a team tasked with making DLC for games including The Sims (Yes The Sims Studio is one of Maxis Teams).

Maxis has at least 4 teams developing stuff.

I mean this still isn't as bad as having a Pizza Hut tie in, that netted you a discount on Pizza from ordering from within the game (I don't remember which big release had it a few years ago).

Let's not forget Sony did the Vita's launch promotion through Taco Bell where you could win Vita prizes and the system (sadly the promotion went quite badly, causing many people to get their prizes canceled).

My Opinion.....

I don't mind the in-game product placement as long as it is relevant to the game. I get it, everything costs money. The addons inside the game I will not pay a penny for. Nissan is getting advertising and maxis is getting their money from Nissan to advertise for Nissan, MAXIS! don't burden the customer's with extra costs especially for addons or your fan base of players will drop.

Okay, I have the code and have entered it multiple times but it is a never ending loop from what I can tell.

I go to the site. It asks me to log-in. I do.

Enter birthday

Enter code and press redeem now.

Says you have 3 prize choices and to select one to enter code.

Then it starts all over and tells you to enter the code.

No success as of yet.

Haha, if I can actually get it to WORK. Just tried on the computer I play SimCity on and still no luck. Forums and FAQ's are no help either.

Okay I got it to work.

It is misleading in that even though you can press either "play" or "redeem code" you will HAVE to enter info for marketing purposes. Like your phone number, name and address.

Then it will tell you if you have won a larger prize (I did not) but THEN you can claim the DLC.

I am going to see how it looks.

Any kind-hearted person willing to donate an extra code for this set? I'm having problems getting one since I'm outside the US...  ^_^

edit: Or does anyone know if the snail mail thing works for cases like mine?

Not found yet in Charleston SC, I went to a couple stores.  Though I have seen a few people say that they are only at Walmart and Target stores, I am not sure if that is official info or not, I will try to go to Target this weekend.  I will grab a couple extras when I do find them (cant have too much toothpaste, will need it eventually) and give some codes to non americans.

I visit the USA frequently to shop but I'm from Canada. I'm wondering if the fine print from the promotion that state the offer is available for USA players only means that someone with a copy registered to another country other than USA might not be able to use  the codes.

I'm disappointed it's for US residents only. If anyone wishes to share a spare code with me I'd be grateful, though. :P

I'm a US resident and I think it's silly not to include everyone in thi day and age.

Marketing deals probably make it difficult to offer something like this on a worldwide scale (I have no idea, just my guess) but it would have been nice to work out a similar deal with other brands in Europe/Asia.

I will have to check out Target and Walmart then for this promo, I still don't think it's right that this is limited to certain areas of the world, mainly the U.S.
