You can only change the build style if you have the Deluxe Edition.  In order to have the buildings change you must place one of the bonus buildings in your city and the surrounding buildings will reflect the styling.  I'm fairly sure it only has a radius effect, so it basically creates a neighborhood.

you buy the addon from the Origin store - and remember the landmark that gives you the building sets is only a short radius.

I believe you use the 'culture' tab under the city specialisation menu

Yea the ones that change the buildings are just a local area around the landmark and they are in the culture tab. You have Eiffel tower, Big Ben, and Brandenburg gate to select from depending on what building you want to go for. I also noticed in my own test i had to place parks to get land value up before they appeared as well. Not sure if this is coincidence with time or not.

The changes only occur for medium density medium wealth buildings and it can take quite some time before all such buildings have the new look.

Thanks guys, well I made the mistake of paying extra for it, and would strongly advise anyone not to waste their money.

Ah, good I came across this topic. I thought I'd be able to just switch building sets as in previous versions. This is kind of disappointing. I was definitely willing to pay extra to get three new building sets, but if that's not exactly what it is... then yeah, doesn't really sound worth it. Damn. I want this game, but I also guess I want some massive expansion pack to be there already that will give me UK building sets (real sets), farms and underground trains. *sigh*

Yep, the Digital Deluxe edition was a total waste of my money. In addition to what everyone else has said above, the very few neighbourhood buildings included look terrible.

Plus the fact that the modders here have made better looking European building sets for SimCity 4.

Another thing is that the building sets that come with SimCity Deluxe aren't really full building sets. They only apply to medium or high wealth residential. They didn't bother putting any low wealth residential or commercial European buildings when they could have easily done so (i.e. La Defense skyscrapers).

Glad I came across this topic. Since 2013, they've added several other landmarks of St. Basil's Cathedral, Kolner Dom, leaning tower of Piza. Does annoying know if it's only the original three that influence building style or do the additional buildings have this effect as well?

The new landmark buildings should have the same effect as the original landmarks.
