Hi, I was wondering if anyone know a website, or lessons, to learn the needed algorithimics to make a video game (simple, and advanced like strategy and racing games)?

I'm not interessed in using the video games making softwares, I'm more interrested in the core of it, the programming of it, or more precisely the algorithmic thinking and the algorithms needed.

:)

firsst, read what wikipedia says on game programming.
there's not THE game code, it's just coding like any other program, sometimes with multiple languages to make handling of pure code and gameplay scripts easier.

after that, pick your favorite language and look for tutorials online, I guess you'll find something.

and now have fun climbing up the learning courve

Thanks, that link should help :D

& I know that it's just another program, just wondered about the needed functions and so (like in simple high school stuff how to fill a tabel or a matrice, use tri, and others to make statistics and programs that solves some math equations and other simple stuff).

To write a game from scratch, you'll often need math and physics (depending upon the game).  Even something as simple as Angry Birds requires math and physics.  Words with Friends probably doesn't.

If you want to do anything that involves rendering or animation, you'll need vector and matrix math.

That means I'll have to wait intill finishing my univ then :P

Well, there is always GameMaker and RPGMaker for those generic "theyalllookthesame" type of games.

Does this include 3D modeling like Simcity 4, GTA, etc.?

They provide "3D modeling" similar to Simcity 4 :no: , but GTA? I doubt..

I downloaded unreal engine (but it didnt look like simple), so I tryed unity, wich looked much simpler (you can make 3d models and stuff inside, you can also take models that you made on 3dsmax to it (after exporting them from 3dsmax)

& this is a turtorial for unity: This link introduce the interface and basic stuff, more links are included

I found this helpfull and it started to come together in my mind after seeing these, and I thought to share with you.

Is this the appropriate thread on asking direction on how to make a basic SimTower clone in HTML5?

    --Ocram

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

This is not about making a basic SimTower clone in HTML5, it is about how to make any kind of video games, idk what do I want to make yet, I have to learn the basics and learn how to use it first, so yes I think this is the place, where else should this be?
