For those who don't know Maxis is waiting until 6pm to perform a stress test of people logging into the game at once.  testing the gates to see how many people can push against it before it collapses.

Not sure downloading it then not playing it counts as being "in the beta" if its 6PM PST to play it i can't play it lol they could of told me in advance.

For those downloading, 15-30 or 40% is very slow.  The last half went by much quicker in my opinion.

 

I appear to have successfully claimed a tile in the Cape Trinity region (only one region available).  Time to build that mining town...

I got in a while ago, then stopped to take a shower (bad idea). Can't claim another city now. 

 

EDIT: Reloading worked.

Pretty fun, I got to play about 3.5 hours.  Got my population to 130k, and then ran out of room.  Had high demand for more zones but no place to put them.  I wish the city was about 4 times its current size.

 

Had a couple crashes but otherwise ran very well.

While I didn't quite get my population up that high, I built a small region.  Got rather costly when i neared 80k in my main city, due to the high cost of oil imports.  Overall I have a much better feel for how everything is going to work, and that makes me quite happy.

I hit 150k pop at one point, but i also came across a number of bugs. I have pm'd a dev though so hope they get fixed....sadly i couldn't explain one of the bugs i needed to record it but they closed the beta now so I'll have to hope they noticed the bug, it messed my entire city up so its quite a bad bug but it seemed it required a number of things to happen for it to even occur so it might be quite rare.

 

I had plenty of houses to upgrade but the city would never go above 150k =/ It was also annoying that i was relying on my neighbours for water and power then they disappeared on me.

 

For those still downloading - i believe the BETA has completely finished now. It was only 4 hours max.

The beta was fun, I had to restart once because it froze on region view when I went to buy power.

 

All in All I liked the beta.

Sadly Sandbox mode wasn't fun for me (though I did like to see all the buildings I could build).

They must be very worried about their servers.

And well they should be.  They're charging a premium price for the product and I'm sure they don't want the whole Blizzard error 13 fiasco on their heads.

 

People will remember the launch problems with Diablo 3 well after anything else has happened to their game.  I'm sure that Maxis  would probably like to avoid a similar bad launch situation if at all possible.

I have a feeling Beta 3 only included Origin pre-orders and/or people who had registered for the beta. Based on Beta 2, Amazon can't get the code emails out fast enough. 

 

I had a really good time in the beta, although it's becoming apparent to me (so I'm a slow learner) that I'm on the wrong site to be positive on this game.
