Sandbox or not?

I'm not sure if I want to play in the sandbox mode or not. What are the advantages or disadvantages to it?

My first impulse is to do sandbox simply to avoid the leaderboards, achievements and other pushed content. Am I missing anything else?

Sandbox mode is probably going to basically let you do anything you want per say and give you unlimited cash like stated above and you'll not be able to have your city on the leader board but you can do anything you want, the only problem is that it might get boring due to it not having any challenge to it, but if you have long term fun when cheating, or sandboxing, but what ever you want to do, then do it.

As for sandbox mode, it’s just what it sounds like. It’s a sandbox where you can build anything you want and use any cheats you want.  It’s a place where you can experiment and not worry about possible consequences to other players or your other cities in a specific region.  It’s a place to play around with building styles, disasters, and everything else the game has to offer without effecting your other works where you may want to compete for a leaderboards slot or work on a challenge.

The invention of beer and the wheel were the foundation of modern civilization & together were the catalyst that split humanity into two distinct subgroups: liberals & conservatives. Some men spent their days tracking & killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. These men were called "conservatives". Other men who were weaker & less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's & doing the sewing, fetching & hair dressing. They were called "progressives".

Yes, they announced it at the end of January.

This is good for players like me who perfer Sandbox, something that Soceities did OK,  but this is just good.  I had my doubts, but I'm expecting a good time with this game once it comes out.

What is strange is sandbox mode will also disable random disasters. Not sure if you can turn them back on. Not sure if you can manually trigger them either tho i assume you can. But keep in mind that sandbox automatically disables random disasters.

God I hate games that feature a 'sandbox' mode because that usually means the normal game mode will be story driven hell where you are spoon fed resources and items to build. This really put me off Dungeon Keeper in the end - all I wanted to do was build a great dungeon full of traps and throw heroes into it and it refused to let me do anything other than follow a stupid expanding story when you gradually got introduced to new room types etc. Drives me mad that kind of thing.

I sure hope there wont be any daft storyline in this game where you gradually get given things to build and items unlock gradually. I prefer to have a more user controlled experience where things can turn out differently everytime and the player can create his own type of game through his choices during the game itself.

Sandbox mode is basically everything unlocked(if you want), you can choose how much money you have (or have limitless money), you can use cheats, you can change a bunch of settings.

The normal mode is where you have to play by the game's default rules. You unlock things when you meet requirements.

From the blog: "Don’t want earthquakes or meteors to strike in the middle of your downtown? Just press “Alt D” and you’ll be safe from all disasters!"

Which means you can turn random disasters on and off. And you always can trigger disasters if you wish in both game modes.

Ooooh I like that - having random disasters sounds great! Is this in SC4 as well? I seem to remember in SC2000 you had to manually employ a disaster if you wanted one.

SC4 had a toggle for disasters but there was a great lack of natural disasters. Hoping to see floods this time round.
