Poor Muck. Having to go to L.A. What a bad break. I hope your grandmother will be OK.

We really should diagnose your laptop problem some time. It might just be overheating, as this game beats the tar out of processors, but depending on the software platform, most crashes have been solved.

Thanks, Nonny. Unfortunately she passed away about 10 hours after my plane landed. Before I left I was under the impression that she would make her recovery. After seeing her in that hospital bed on a breathing machine... I... don't know how to finish this sentence. It was emotional as you can imagine. I am glad I got to see her one last time and say goodbye though. She was a saint. Anyone who makes it to the age of ninety should be grateful for that time. She lived to have 2 great grandchildren. Although she never got a chance to meet my cousin's son as he was born only a few months ago and lives in Long Island.

So I spent some time out there in sunny CA helping my Aunt clear out my Grandma's condo and otherwise poking about. I took in a drag race at Pomona, watched my cousin ride his dirt bike near Moreno and furthered my sushi experience a wee bit. I also took a little hike up Mt. Baldy. It's amazing how much the temperature drops when you get up there!

Now I'm back in Pittsburgh, the city I adore so much. I was lucky enough to sit next to a woman on the plane (to Dallas because you can't get a direct flight out of PIT to hardly anywhere) who was kind enough to listen to my stories of woe. She offered me a job as she works in the hotel industry as well. She told me to call her after the new year. So, yeah, I'll probably be doing that since I haven't secured a full time job since I lost my old one in October. She made no guarantees but encouraged me to contact her. What are the odds? Coincidentally, the gentleman sitting in front of me on that flight was also a hotelier of sorts.Actually one of the more prominent individuals in that field here in western PA. The 3 of us had a little pow wow. It was nice.

So to sum it all up, I'm back in PA and doing my thing. I doubt I'll be here on a daily basis from now on, but I hope to be around more often.

Happy New Year, Simtropolis!

You have my deepest sympathy on the death of your grandmother. All my grandparents passed away in the 1950s except my paternal grandmother who made it to her 98th birthday and passed away in 1979. She was spry and kicking until she was taken by a quick series of heart attacks. My parents are gone too, of course. None of them made it to the 21st century. I guess people wore out sooner. If they had lived, both of my parents would celebrate their 100th birthdays in 2013.

So, welcome back. I hope you get the job in Dallas.

Hello, my name is Sean.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (around 2006-2007), I once frequented this website as mr food11. I was twelve at the time, and most of my maps were made in the sixth and seventh grade.

Well, now I'm all grown up now and I just recently got a new copy of this game (Been through several computers since I was a wee lad, game disc got stepped on and broke a few years ago), so I thought I'd start new.

I may or may not be very involved again in these forums, but I'm very busy now starting a music career and with my current social life.

I wonder if anyone that used to go here still does? I wonder if I'll remember you? I wonder if any of you remember me?

Anyway, I just thought I'd drop by and say that I'm here. It's been a very, VERY long time. Gonna go download some of the essential mods, maybe make a new map for myself. Might see a new map from me. I think I'll go browse the forums for essential mods that I don't have anymore.

Be sure to check out my new EP (it's a free download) on my bandcamp page, if you're curious about my music. Good day.  :thumb:

Welcome back.  If you got the game on disk, you'll need to get the updates.  Look in the forums and you'll find them.

I bought it on Steam, so I think I'm good there. I wonder if there's a list of must-have mods of some sort, but I'm sure I'll find one if I lurk the forums or browse through the mods themselves.

I am back and I have a more stable lifestyle at the moment. Working 7 days a week at the moment though. In my own apartment with my own internet connection. I suspect with the coming release of the new Simcity I shall resume a presence to be a part of figuring the ins and outs of vanilla mechanics as well as keep a pulse on one of the best modding communites on the internet.

Well, don't uninstall SC4.  I think you might exhaust the new SimCity pretty quickly.

Well, it's been a while hasn't it? Since my seasonal part-time job at the local arena is over for now, maybe I'll have some more free time on my hands.

Yikes... I've not been on this site since '09... I'll admit I came back because the SimCity 2013 launch debacle has given me a renewed interest in the old Sim City 4...

This site brings back memories, but my username has changed over the years on other sites, so I'll likely change from "R_Triacontahedron" to "R30hedron"... Probably won't matter too much because I'll likely be just as quiet now as I was back then.

Also, the question that's been on my mind for a while now: Is the page flip bug extinct yet?

The old bug was squashed simply by leaving it behind in one of the old editions.  The new software doesn't have this infection.

All those blank stares is no reason to change your user name.  Some people just are not into solid geometry.

Good afternoon everyone. I have been away for a while taking care of some real life issues. I am back. I did get a small PC so I still do not have the ability to do bats or play the game. That will come in the next year I am hoping.

I'm leaving the forums for a while.  Frankly, I don't feel like I have anything to offer anyone here, and I'm getting a bit tired of the attitudes I see from some members.  When I see people, including myself, but particularly newbies, being treated with a condescending attitude, it grates on my nerves.  I want to come here to relax and read uplifting, helpful comments from people - not lectures about what I did wrong.  I already get enough of that in my personal life.

So I may or may not be back in the future.  Best wishes to you all.

In my experience, this is a very friendly and helpful forum. Without knowing what you are exactly talking about, sometimes it's just necessary that we say what's wrong (for example with technical issues or gameplay: you can't help someone if you don't say what they did wrong).

Hate to see you go, I hope you do change your mind :)

It is friendly and helpful, Timmie...for the most part, anyway.  I don't always feel like I have much to contribute, but I enjoy interacting with people at times.  I don't like to air my dirty laundry in public, so I won't give specific names of people, or what has been said, but I've noted there are times when some people have a condescending tone in their posts, and it's directed mostly toward new people.  However, it's sometimes directed toward established members, too, who maybe aren't as knowledgeable about certain things in the game as other game veterans are.  I guess I just get overly sensitive at times.  Maybe I misread what people are saying.  I've put up with a lot of personal stress and emotional crap recently, and it has really affected my life.  So when I come here, I want to relax.  I don't want to put up with people making me feel like I'm an idiot who has done something wrong, or doesn't know anything.  I'm sorry....I hope you'll forgive me.  My bad mood followed me here when I left the post above.  It's been 10 days now, so I'll come back and see how things go.  :)

Think nothing of it.  I am a tough old bird.  Maybe a thicker skin would help you around here.  This place is ultra polite compared to some boards.

That's very very true.  I should bear that in mind.  I've been on some boards that were much worse.  Even the comments sections of major news websites are ridiculous.  Thanks again.

Well, I am back after about three days away.  I fumble fingered my BIOS and did it in so badly that I had to send it out for fixing.  Just goes to show what I've always said about the loose nut holding the keyboard.

I knew fooling around with canned pop near my machine was dangerous, but this did it.  I am now using a new waterproof Kensington keyboard.  Off the air from Friday morning to now.
