So, here's the story. I was chatting with my bf at the supermarket and he suggests that we buy some Oreos. I comment that I hate Oreos and he nearly has a heart attack. I thought ALL Americans like Oreos!

Hmmm, I guess I'm weird that way.

So here's another story. We're watching TV and a commercial for a Big Mac comes on. I ask him what a Big Mac tastes like as I've never had one before. My bf nearly poops himself: You've NEVER had a Big Mac???

Yep, 29 years old and never tasted a Big Mac. Weirdo...

So, is there anything that you have done/haven't done that would totally befuddle someone you were getting to know? Something that you do/don't do that would otherwise be considered standard for the people of your culture?

I guess I sould say this but in my entire life...I have never had anything from taco bell(even when I go there at a mall with friends I for some odd reason avoid it).

And one rather odd thing is I have never played the sims 1 or any of it's expansion packs ever...but I own TS2 and all of it's expansion packs.go figure.

i rarely say this much as then (forgetting that TV and movies are different) they think i havent seen any movies in my life

at my old school the teacher set some homework where we had to watch an episode of eastenders. i said i didn't have a tv and she acted in a patronising way and thought i was poor and common but then again shes one of those sophisticated snobby types so that is to be expected

 

also ive never really been op north, the furthest ive been was north wales but that hardly counts as i was in a coach. ive been all over europe yet hardly explored my own country

Even though I do my share of watching, I sometimes think that saying you don't watch (or own a) tv would be something to be proud of.  A lot of smart people I know either don't have or watch tv.  The snobbish ones say they only watch PBS.

 

 

I am proud to say I've never seen that first episode of Survivor or Fear Factor !  I've only seen a couple of episodes of American Idol b/c The Magistrate pulled me in to see a couple of the finals.

Well Ive probably done stranger things, but I have never been further north than to Gardemoen Airport in Oslo, and never been further west than Stavanger. I am also Norwegian and hate the snow, heheheh, so I am kind of a wierdo.

i have no automobile. have not for several years. it is both an environmental and financial decision. it depresses me to see how shocked people are about this...it is not a bit deal for me to walk a couple of miles per day to go to work. unfortunately, it HAS become acceptable to drive a couple blocks to the drive-thru to get a pack of cigs.

i have not had a drop of alcohol nor beer since i was four years old - and yes, 33 years later, i still remember the night after quite vividly. rememberances of that night, and watching what alcohol and cigarettes have helped me chose to stay away from both for the rest of my life. again, it depresses me a bit to see people are surprised about this. i have been taking care of my body a lot more recently - which is why i absolutely won't eat fast food, either - nor have i had a candy bar for nine months.

even though i am a passionate Cincinnati Reds' fan, people are surprised to find i have not been to a game since 1990. coincidentally, the last time the Reds won the World Series was 1990. Perhaps i should go again soon.

Im another person who has never had a Big Mac, and most things on the McDonalds menu. I dont like hamburgers. Never had katchup or mustard and most of the condiments. Also, ive never had most fruits and veggies. I pretty much only eat American and Italian food. Dont know what Chinese food is like, or Mexican, or any others I can think of. Not even Taco Bell. I dont like resteraunts, especially fancy ones, I like cheap food.

Ive never seen any shows of Survivor, American Idol, Fear Factor, CSI. I dont even know whats popular. Im asleep during prime time tv, and I only tape The Amazing Race. Ive only seen one Sienfeld.

 

MrCinatit, I went a year without a car too, but I have one now. It was nice for a while not having to pay for gas and insurance, never having to look for parking, but I couldnt stand riding my bike to work in winter in Michigan, in the snow, ice and below zero temps anymore. Walking or riding the bus with groceries is not easy too.

@Rymac91: You're not missing anything. Taco Bell is vile. And furthermore, I never played SimCity 2 or 3. Just 1 and 4.

@frogface: Wow, I can't imagine. I can't live without my 'toons. (Teen Titans, Adult Swim, etc.)

@Exil3: I had a friend in Kentucky to whom I suggested a visit to Indiana. He asked me, in all seriousness, if we needed a passport to go to Indiana.

@MrCinatit: That would surprise me depending on where you live. In some places, it's pretty easy to get along without a car. Not so much in others. You from Cincinnati? I'm from Covington. And boy does the public transportation there stink. Oh, and so it's YOU who has been keeping the Reds from winning a World Series! Go to a game, dammit!

@marryescher: No fruits or veggies? Better take care that you don't get scurvy. I also don't know what's popular on network TV. Cartoons, anime, and Sci-Fi are my drugs of choice.

i live in a very small town called Piqua, a rather scary place about 100 miles to the north of Cincy. work is about a mile and a half away, while the grocery is 12 blocks away. yes, it does get rather cold in the winter, but i have long learned how to dress for it. during the big blizzard last year, i kept passing cars. the looks i received were not very friendly.

@MrCinatit: Not friendly? I can understand befuddled looks, but there's nothing to get unfriendly about.

I couldn't imagine not having a car. I feel trapped if I can't go on a road trip whenever I feel like it. I do, however, wish there was an affordable and environmentally friendly alternative to the gas burner I have now.

I don't care for Oreos, or most desserts for that matter. Drives my husband and son crazy because they always expect dessert. I'll eat ice cream or pie once in a while, or cake if I'm at a party, but that's about it. Cookies generally don't interest me.

Regarding green beans, I disliked them intensely until age 46, at which point I started craving them.  But then, I didn't start eating spinach until age 24.  I guess tastes just change over time.

 

Regarding the whole reality show craze, I've seen a few minutes of some here and there but never made it through a whole show and haven't bothered with most of them.

Ive never eaten much fruit or vegatables since 1994 ,  yep that right ,  i am extreemly unhealthy , dangeriously unhealty in fact , My daily intake of veggies and fruit is probobly about 0.2 items of greens a day
  I'm not exactly proud of it , i guess i have a condition my mind has managed to trick it self into making me wretch when i eat ay for example a pea , or an apple , or a bannana , or anything nutritious , Doctor says there isnt much i can do about it because i lack the will power to actualy untrick my mind ...

I cant get scared ... Lol well i guess i could if it was a real life death situation , but Scary movies , theme park rides , spiders , gross things , none scare me , not even when i went bungee jumping just for the sheer thrill of being actualy scared....

This is an Oreo from the Nabisco website. I love Oreo's, and I think ill pick some up next time I go to the store. They tend to turn your teeth black when you eat one though.

I have coworkers who religiously, er a devotedly, watch American Idol every week even while claiming it's racist the next hour.  So it pays for me to keep up, even if I see it as just another talent show. 

 

I think I've also mentioned The Magistrate has a thing for Spanish soap operas and she eagerly translates for me when I ask.  I still can't get her interested into my sci-fi shows or football games however.

 

 

MrCinatit:  Well at least it takes a blizzard to stall cars in Ohio (and Indiana for that matter).   Here in D.C. it takes barely an inch of snow to bring things to a halt.Bailout on the Wilson Bridge!!!  Sometimes I wish I lived closer to the Metro. 

 

marryescher: I told my wife that I'd improve my diet by eating at least one green vegetable a week!    j/k  (Actually you didn't say you don't eat fruits and vegetables, just that you don't eat most fruits vegetables)

I listen to classical music while playing Simcity. In fact, I listen to classical music as much as possible. Right now the system is off, which it often is. We don't watch TV except for the CTV 11p.m. News and any F1 car races (wife) and figure skating shows (both of us). Series television is not for us.

Well, I've never eaten a Big Mac... come to think of it, I've never finished a hamburger of any kind. Took a bite out of one once years ago and didn't like it... Similar situation with Hot dogs. they taste like rubber.

I've never had a Big Mac either, and I've also never played hockey (and I'm Canadian). I really don't like steak, all pops except orange, and I absolutely DISPISE water. Especially bottled water, which is the worst. The stuff is just so tasteless and ew... it's all And BTW, I'm perfectly healthy

A few of my oddities

When I eat cookies, I like to eat the edges first, and then, I eat half of what is left, and then, the other half. Same goes for sandwiches, burgers, etc.

I always like to make weird mathematical equations in my head from looking at cracks/patterns in the ground/pavement.

I always say 5 more minutes after hearing the morning alarm...and usually, I actually get up in 5 minutes. Usually, people sleep to the next alarm...

I only care about the home team if they are winning.

I always use my elbow/shirt to open/close doors, and perform other tasks like such...

If I make an odd step, I usually stop, take a step back, and do it again, in a proper manner.

When walking in a crowd, I like to weave through people, via means of a waypoint system. Also, I tend to walk much faster than everyone else.

No one has ever been able to trip me. I can only trip myself.

I used to hate candy bars with nuts in them, but, now I absolutely love them.
