I love how only these "I love you maxis <3<3" comments are going through. Don't expect any real questions to be answered.

EDIT: It is live.

Blabla Sims is first up. Boring.

Yup, it appears that they're restricting the comments.

No subways. No terraforming. As for ferries/boats, he dodged the question and went onto rail/bus. No info on highways of course. The city size would be ok (2 x 2 km) if it weren't for the increased lot size. It just looks SO small now. He only had a few stripes of roads with houses on them, and he already started to fill up a big chunk of the map. Sim Town sadly..

On the plus side, simulation looks great, as expected. Graphics are nice too =)

These "cities" are going to be extremely tiny. As for everything else, it looks pretty good.

I got to say I am pretty upset by the live broadcast. I guess it is definitely been confirmed that we will be working on micro-cities with no subways. I also didn't see any bridges... Something which I have enjoyed since time and memorial.

Bridges?

The answer to question about rivers was "The water is incredible"

Total waste of time ... bring K.K. to respond??

Inadequate transmission infrastructure and the comments are really a joke.

I do not think media optimistic will help change the course of it;

Disappointment! ... bye.

Almost none of this stuff was new info. Other than the city abandonment stuff, they had already said pretty much everything else on the forums before. Also -- lots of marketing shills posting to the Live Chat...

This was not the hard hitting question presentation I was hoping for. Kinda made them jump when asked about terraforming being cut but the only real hard question/observation made, that about being simple, was asked. But then again they only showed the data layers but how does that make it complex?

Waste of time.

EDIT:

I just want to know...

Dirk,

Is this the game the Simcity 4 community has been waiting for?

Thanks

There is a sneaky little question mark button on the bottom of the page. When you click it it explains that: "this is not a live chat"... o.O

Dang it! I lost the whole part about SimCity :(

It seems you can watch the whole thing afterwards, in the same place.

Yesterday they confirmed that there *are* bridges and overpasses and stuff.

Oh no, you can have people go from one train station to another within the same city.

I'm, sort of very frustrated. I didn't see anything BAD about the game, but then, we didn't see much at all. 10 minutes was a video we've seen, the interview was horribly short and they cut off simcity to go back to The Sims. The comments they let through on the 'live chat' were stupendously dumb. Not a single legitimate question among them. So, to reiterate my sentiment: The game looks okay, but the publicity pandering is downright infuriating. That said, here's what I posted on the dedicated thread over at the maxis forums:

" First off, I want to thank Guillaume Pierre, who's been really good so far about answering questions on the forums, and has alleviated a lot of my concerns so far. (You should have let him participate in the interview, haha.) I was a bit frustrated in the broadcast that some of the more elaborate questions weren't brought up, but hopefully we'll see some of them here!

1 ) In regard to agents/sims and mass transit: how do busses and trams determine their destination? Are the routes pre-defined, such as by the player? If not, what if agents on board have destinations in different parts of town; how do the busses/trams prioritize their destinations and routes? Do they attempt to reroute if an accident blocks their path?

2 ) Can we expect more tilesets in the future? Might we pick and choose our loaded tilesets so that we could, say, have a city comprised exlusively of traditional Japanese shoin-zukuri style and ultramodern Dubai structures?

3 ) Will larger (3*3+km) city tiles be available? Might there be a way to 'expand' the default 2*2 tile aside from linking to other cities? (kind of answered, but ... still hoping)

4 ) Will the game feature agriculture, either as a zone or a resource?

5 ) I'm a suburban planner at heart; I love trams, but don't want a city that relies heavily on avenues/bigger roads. Can we build tram stations independant of avenues?

6 ) How extreme of map features can we expect? I picture cities built on massive cliff ridges, tiny island towns, cities at the bottom of craters, etc!

7 ) Any chance we can seduce you into including some maps?

8 ) The road overlay graphics for the service buildings (politce stations, etc) suggest they only have a range of a couple city blocks. Why so small? "

Few things:

1. There were more people watching the Simcity segment than the Sims, which is surprising. It's nice to see people are interested in city-building games.

2. The cities are quite small.

3. I'm impressed with the wide variety of transportation options and curvy roads. While subways would have been nice, it's not the end of the world that they aren't included. A lot of people are really overreacting.

Not that it makes a huge impact, as the cities are so small..

I was really hopping that if anything, they would say they included subways, but I guess not. They also seem to REALLY NOT want to stray away from medium cities. It's like a boundery line for them, which they can Break. They are afterall the people making the game.

There is such poor insight on EA/Maxis' part to put forth an event like this, where the questions were softball and/or dodged, there were painfully few questions answered compared to what's out there, and if there was any doubt that they are avoiding any discussion about the discontent that is being expressed, the 'live chat' should put them to complete rest.

Nor would it be necessary to say .... videos were already ready for the answers!

Now just one question ...

"Next week is a big week for SimCity! Why? Because on October 9, 2012 at 10am PST (do not worry - there'll be a replay!) We're going to be a part of the first ever Live Broadcast Maxis where you'll hear from the ambos SimCity and The Sims 3 development teams. Best part, Mayors? Maxis The Live Broadcast will be the exclusive destination for the world premiere of live SimCity gameplay! you know what that means, right? We are playing the game live. So if you've wanted to see SimCity in action, this is the event for you. "

Zel did take the most upvoted questions on the ST visit news item. The community was represented by them. You can't complain about that!

I would have liked to see questions from some of the 'more established' members and site staff answered, but again not a big deal as I appreciate Maxis/EA for allowing ST to visit and participate in the conference.

Also, the questions didn't "suck." They were valid, well though out questions. While they might have been about features we already know are in the game, they were still good questions.

I hope they have agriculture either as a zone or regional filler with food as a resource.

There are tram lines that go separate from avenues, I saw those in the videos.

Subways are rather expensive and are more appropriate for XL cities or regional networks.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

'Is there water?' is a well thought out question?

^ This. It's a bummer that the subways aren't included but we have alot more transportation options than before, It's not that bad.
