Download the SPAM to get more and better farms. Otherwise, live with the 5-6 boring farms.

THANKS PEGASUS.

you ca, but you can also get a bug which are empty tiles in the area you marked for zoning. Also, if you only have pumpkin farms growing, either your farms are not big enough, or you need to patch up the game for other farms ggrow up. I remember to have that issue in my first days of SC4

If mostly of the farms is pumpkin acres, then, the problem is possibly with your demand, low I-A demand may cause stage 1 farms to grow and not stage 2-3. Or maybe pumpkin acres' owner is the only people that interested with your city.

Btw, i'm not sure if any patch could fix that trouble, so i would suggest you to download some farms that we have here and there still so many of them in another sites, like LEX or the SPAM mod in Simpeg. That could make more variation of farms and make your city become much more realistic than just a bunch of farmers that have no creativity and just make his farm like another farms in that area.

You will eventually get tired of the very limited Maxis farm repertory. Get the SPAM, and you will have a better life. Maxis farms may co-exist with SPAM but no more will be generated.

Read the documentation carefully. You do not need the 'controller' as it conflicts with NAM.

I'll go as far to say that the SPAM's traffic simulator (It's not a controller, it's a traffic simulator) it not recommended.

Instead of creating a new thread I'd rather bump this. My question is somewhat similar.

Can someone please tell me why my new region doesn't grow any stage 3 farms? According to the quoted post, I should be able to do so. I'm referring to those relatively large black silos, which I don't remember the name of. I have two cities, both with farmer's market and state fair. Agricultural demand in the region is +5000. It's usually not a problem for my farming communities to grow stage 3 farms, and I have removed all mods that did not belong in my usual and well tested setup. Am I overlooking something? I don't use SPAM or CAM.

There are four things that can affect how big an I-A building is, they are :

    1. Demand

    2. Desirability

    3. Size of the zone

    4. Mods

While you don't have any trouble with demand, it doesn't mean you don't have any trouble with all of those three other factors.

If the desirability is not high enough to trigger any bigger farms to grow, then the stage 1 farms will keep growing around because the desirability is just too low for farms with higher stage to grow there. The size of the zone is also crucial, if you just zone 5x4 and 4x4 zones, then I bet the only type of farm that you get is Pumpkin Acres. Try to zone larger areas, because Pedriana Plant lots size is very large, from 4x4-5x5. Or perhaps, you use the or the that will cause Pedriana Plants to be no longer able to grow/much harder to grow. Delete these files if you have any of them in your Plugins.

As mentioned, demand is through the roof.

Desirability is great and all green in both cities. Low pollution, low garbage, low crime, and short freight trips. Also, I use a mod which removes the negative effect that traffic has on farms, stage 3 farms usually do appear when I use this mod.

Zone sizes are all relatively big. Actually, I press the shift key in order to remove roads that the game wants to put in between my zones. That's what I usually do and I have seen stage 3 farms on zones that were far smaller than those I currently struggle with.

About mods, I removed all the mods that I did not use when I last managed to grow stage three farms. I have a standard combination of plugins that I always return to when my game starts to act weird with new mods.

The only thing that I have done differently this time is that I have a standard ground highway which goes through both of the two city tiles. I just don't see why that should make a difference as long as it doesn't affect desirability. I have had cities that have had worse conditions for argriculture that did manage to grow stage 3 farms. This issue puzzles me.

I should have reached stage 3 when I receive the farmers market and state fair, right?

I don't use any of the two mods you refer to.

Road noise drives away IR demand as well as air pollution

I have had good experience with this mod:

It removes the side effect of traffic and there is no severe air pollution in my cities. I have a couple of congested roads that create a little air pollution but it's nothing that affects desirability. After all, my farms desirability factors indicate that pollution is low.

I have seen the side effect that traffic has on farms, hence I installed the above mentioned mod, which does work with all farm stages 1-3. For some reason, I just can't get Pedriana Farms in this region.

The plethora of Pedriana Plants farms is what drove me into using the SPAM.  This mod has farms any size larger than 4 x 4, and seasonal crops, as well as a better perspective on farming.

Zone some big farm spaces, and you'll get them.

I tried SPAM but I couldn't get used to the feel of it.

As indicated above, I have huge farm spaces, some of which reach the limit of how much agriculture that can be zoned with a single mouse drag + shift. Could my region be affected by traces of mods that later have been uninstalled?

I finally managed to get Pedriana Plants and in order to identify the possible cause, I tested it twice. I increased the presence of dirty and manufacturing industries. A few more industrial zones and dirty was raised from 1.200 - to +2000 jobs and manufacutring from 500 to +1000 jobs. Both times I could get stage three farms to appear after doing this. So, is agriculture stages tied to the stages of dirty and manufacturing industries? It would seem so.

Don't think so, but I haven't used default farms since the SPAM came out.  I don't recall having problems getting Pedriana Plants and often had too many of them.

The first time I used SPAM, I encounter something odd. Medium wealth residents begin to pop up even with 12% tax. Not to mentioned there is no water, no school & no hospital. In other cities, no R$$ will grow with those conditions. Is it because of SPAM? Or is it because of neighbouring city high R$$ demand?

SPAM only affect I-A, and not any other type of RCI. If the demand is very high, R$$ demand can be still positive though the tax is high (I had an experience when R$$ demand is still positive when the tax is 13%), and stage 1-3 R$ and R$$ don't need water to grow. For R$$, an area without school and hospital is acceptable, so it is still possible for them to live in such area if any other type of education building exist (library or museum). So, there is nothing obvious with your city, it is normal, or in another word, SPAM is not the cause of what happened to you. High R$$ demand from neighboring city or any demand altering mod are two possible source of the high R$$ demand in your city.

The only connection with SPAM would be the fact that SPAM allows all residential wealth levels (R$, R$$ and R$$$) to work in I-Ag zones. So if you have a large areas of farmland, this will increase the demand for all residential types because there are plenty of jobs available.

Yes, this in one of the reasons I decided not to use SPAM. I kind of appreciate that I have to focus on civic services in order to bring in R$$ and R$$$. Also, I actually think that Maxis farms, despite the low variety, look consistently better than SPAM farms.

    That probably explain it.

The only thing I don't like about Maxis farms is those annoying Pedriana Plants.

I'm thinking of using SPAM again & I have 1 more question. How many of the jobs is allocated for each residential wealth?

Best way to find that out is to load the SPAM, create a few farms in your sandbox and ask it.

I did that before. Based on the test I did back then, I conclude that it is similar to IM.

    R$ : 50%, R$$ : 45%, R$$$ : 5%.

I just want some kind of confirmation.

Well, I guess if someone wants to do a similar experiment you can get that.  In a community as large as this you might find some interested parties.  The ratio of R$:R$$ seems a little flat to me.  For a farming system, you should need more people behind the plow or driving tractors (R$) than supervisors (R$$).  Maybe the ratios are off in the mod.

Personally, that's what annoys me the most of the SPAM. It's a great mod, no doubts, but it also skyrockets my residential demands, and that upsets the balance of my game as I develop my region. That's why recently decided to revert from it in my newest region, at least the original demand outputs go only into R$, which doesn't cause me to have R$$ flooding my cities as soon as I place a school because of the huge demand.

If I could have the other things the SPAM offers without that demand changes, then that would be great for me.
