Custom Region Problem

I followed the directions to install a custom region into SimCity 4 the original way, but whenever I upload the region, the config.bmp configuration doesn't show up, but instead, a blank region. It's in the right folder, so can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? The .jpg and the .bmp are in the same folder.

Press shift + alt + ctrl + r while in the empty region view, then use the menue that pops up and browse to where the region is located and select the image file. (.png .bmp, etc)

which region was it? I might be able to help.

It was a Toronto region from one of the very old files. Just go to the STEX, press "Maps," and go to pages 140-150 until you see Toronto. The config and greyscale were downloaded with no problem. According to the guide I read, the config should have shown up in the region.

I have done it the 'old way' a few times but I use sc4terraformer now because I edit my regions. To just import a downloaded region sc4mapper would suffice. The cool thing about sc4mapper is your can import images as well as .sc4 files which means it has a greater compatability. Of course this is a personal choice and one I highly recommend to use. If you are set on doing it the 'old way' then believe me I am the last person you want to hear from :P

GL and I hope you find a solution to your problem.

As Inusan mentioned, you must use the shift + alt + ctrl + r command to render the region. Are you doing that? Placing the jpg and the config files is only part of the process. The game must render the map for the terrain to appear. Until that is done, the region will appear blank (flat terrain).

Oh yeah, um I always get an error like say "number here" x "number here" should be "1000+" x "1000+." I'm not sure why. I know about that command.

If I'm interpreting your error message correctly, that could result from the config file not matching in size to the greyscale image. If you could post a link to the Toronto map you are trying to use (there are a few), it could be checked.

It seems you need to download and install SC4Mapper to get that into your game. If I remember correctly, such files can't be moved into SC4 without it (SC4Terraformer would be another option, but that comes with additional files and functions besides the required one).

Well, I can't use that because I'm on Mac, hence this is in the Mac Forum.

Unfortunately that map can't be used on a mac, it needs that additional software that we can't run.

    But you can

Or, if you don't want that specific area, go to the stex and click in maps. Then jump all the way to the back. Anything from here will work on a mac, and it'll take a while for you to run out of possible maps. Or, when searching, sort by submission date and ascending, that will show the maps that are most likely able to run on macs.

Thanks for all this, Hamish.  I didn't know the Shift+Alt+Control+r tip. :)
