The more Maxis shows us, the more regret I have for pre-ordering. (First time I've ever pre-ordered anything!)

IMO it is not looking like it is a 'better' SC4, but a totally different game.

So anyone else out there with 'buyer's remorse'?

Edit:July 24 - added a couple more options to the poll - I'm in the middle of trying to cancel my preorder now!

I haven't pre-ordered it, and I won't. I won't buy it, I won't even download it for free. It looks like it's going to be a huge let down. This is Maxis' second failure in a row. I'm starting to wonder what path this company is heading down. I would hope they listen to what WE want instead of what they want, but then again, it is THEIR game. I wonder if they are designing for the developers now, because those are the only people who actually seem to like this game. I'm sorry if I'm being a negative Nancy, but I don't think Maxis is going to pull this one off. I would hope for a better game sometime in the future, if there will be a future for this company.

I've never preordered a game in my life and I wasn't palnning on starting with this game. Especially considering what I know now, I'm glad i didn't. In fact, this is exactly why I don't preorder games. Games that sound amazing when they're first announced can turn out to be the exact opposite.

Don't get suckered in by the pre-order gimmick.

Wait for the game to come out or at least wait for some legit reviews if you're cautious about purchasing the product.

While I remain optimistic, I don't think I will ever pre-order anything. Many stores offer promotions and whatnot which means you aren't missing out on any 'deals' either.

I haven't pre-ordered this yet. And it's not because I hate the game, it's because there isn't enough information to fully judge whether or not I want the game. Pre-ordering at this stage is probably not a good idea because there's still so much we don't know. I plan on pre-ordering closer to release date because I would like those goodies you get on Origins and by then I will have enough information to make an informed purchase.

That isn't to say that games can't be pre-ordered this early. I pre-ordered MGS3 and MGS4 as soon as I could. Similarly with Skyward Sword and Trauma Team for the Wii. Unless you know for sure you want the game 100%, you shouldn't pre-order so early. Unless it's some sort of auto-upgrade to Limited Edition like what happened with Dragon Age 2's signature edition or you get some extremely 50% off deal.

Not pre-ordered the game

I would not pre order any digital game full stop. I only pre order a game if I purchase a physical copy from a retailer 1 or 2 weeks before release if high demand is to be expected.

I never ever ever EVER pre-order anything. I don't care how "rare" or "high demand" it may be, it's not worth sinking money into the pre-order gimmick - especially considering how over-priced games are these days and the higher frequency of "let downs".

I wont pre order unless I am 110% sure that I want the game and its a physical copy.

Pre-orders are a gimmick when it comes to digital downloads as its not like the stock is going to run out.

I pre-ordered one game, that was Dragon Age Origins and I wasn't let down, however I had enough info - some of it insider - to know I wouldn't be. To those saying they wish they hadn't preordered the new simcity though, surely you can cancel your preorder? The game is still months from release.

Aren't pre-order stats just used as a marketing hype since the advent of digital downloads? You know, so they can spout on about how great the 'buzz' is for _________ game?

The more news that comes out the less likely it becomes I will buy it.

EA/Maxis have really missed the boat on this one.

I'm willing to bet it's the marketing people at the helm.

They could mess up a soup sandwich and usually do.

No.

I'd rather wait for some opinions from those who buy that game first and once they tried it. Sofar it doesn't look like that I'm gonna buy it since I cannot play it at my weekend home, where I spend all the weekends and most of my free time. (no internet connection)

Well, and what was that first failure? Because if you mean SimCity Societies then, you should know the fact that they didn't actually make it.

Just pointing this out, because this is one serious misconception about Societies, that Maxis developed it, when it was another company while Maxis was working on Spore.

Remember, you retain the option to regain some dignity and sanity.

If you wish to do so, simply cancel your order.

that was sc4 at e3 '02. there's some earlier pictures of the game that I can't find online anymore, but they looked FAR worse than even that. All I'm saying is have a little faith in the modding community.

all you need is modability and curvy roads/3d for this to have potential to be better than sc4.

We do have faith in the community and it's modding capabilities. That isn't the problem, the problem lies in EA's end of the bargain, so to speak. If they do not fulfill modability to our expectations (e.g. lot editor style, no 3D models from scratch) than there really isn't much we can do despite having the knowledge to do more. Besides, even if we are given the same level of modability like we are in SC4 (which is unlikely, since this game is multiplayer and bandwidth is at a premium) all is essentially thrown out the window in a mere years time when EA pulls the plug on the servers.

yeah I didn't think about any of that before posting that comment. I forget that its supposed to be all online now?

but regardless, I maintain that the game still has some way to go. This isn't the final iteration.

Not Maxis, I didn't mean the company, I meant the SimCity series. They'll either give up and give us what we want, or they'll give up and stop making the game. Lets hope the latter doesn't happen. The game has great potential, but they keep making new games instead of bettering what was already amazing.

I never did preorder, because I wanted to know more about it before I did.

And also, you can cancel preorders.

omg! .... PEOPLE PLEASE LEARN TO BE PATIENT!!!! (sorry caps but i am furious)

Simcity 5 (2k13) Still has 8 or more months of developement, i know thats a long wait and the numorus concept pictures is intimadating

maxis even stated that NOTHING is 100% complete, so why judge so early?

lets remember, SC Releces in the past decade were not afiliated by maxis....(if it matters) reason being the whole spore dealio.... and EA has there ways of making a quick buck

now that i think of it, why do some people pay for a game based on CONCEPT ART and/or the TITLE OF THE GAME and not actual game play!?!

and yes i am being hostile but seriusly,

some people need a reality check and im sick of people saying how aulful it is but yet IT HAS NOT EVEN REACHED A BETA STAGE OF DEVELOPEMENT

As long as they keep the simulation engine the same and give opportunities for mods and custom content it will probably work out fine.

In the beginning there won't be much custom content but after a while there will be more. Its just a matter of time.

I'm glad I never pre-ordered it in the first place (shouldn't that be an option in the poll?). It's not a good idea to pre-order anything; the potential benefits and "perks" you receive in limited editions aren't worth the risk of getting a dud product for all of that hard-earned money.

Those who pre-ordered and now regret it should cancel, period, and next time wait until you can make an informed decision before doing it again.

I pre-ordered, albeit not with my own money :uhm: . I'm still having regret. The more I read, the more it seems this is the same old song and dance these days with terrible development. At this stage, I expect a full letdown.

I'm reserving my judgement on this game. I'm a fan of simcity since I was introduced to it when my teacher used it as a teaching aid. I'm really looking forward to a new iteration of simcity but my concern is with the news so far that appears to have limited users ability to decide how they want to build their city.

I do not think any teacher would do the same today with what comes around!

Actually SC4 turned into a simulator complex, which also was a game.

Far from the new SimCity, which is just a small game based on simulation.

The one thing I can't get my head around is the degeneration of gaming in general. This isn't just Simcity guys, it's gaming in general and especially gaming for people who were gaming say 15 years ago. I haven't bought a new game in years and thought this new Simcity was going to be different, but I know I was just being naive.
