Hey so I was looking around the internet and some people have raised avenues and I was wondering how i can do that? I don't mean just an overpass a highway or road but like an extensive network and if that's even possible or was I did I not get a good enough look at it?

No, if you drag elevated highway over another elevated highway, it goes over it. I believe that's a Maxis feature.

Understandable. :D Those things have a TON of features. Occasionally I find something that I didn't know about too. There'll be even more with their next release (coming up soon it seems)!

Oh yeah, when there's no room for a cloverleaf intersection/you don't want one.

Under the roads menu probably, near the bottom of it, you will see something should say something like "elevated avenue puzzle pieces", or something to that nature. You will click that, then you can use the "Tab" key to cycle through puzzle pieces and the "Home" and "End" keys to rotate them.

Using these puzzle pieces will help you create your network.

You know, I've never noticed that. I've been playing for quite some years now, and I learn something new all the time.

If you have NAM installed, they'll be in the Road Menu:

    RoadMenu.jpg

After selecting that menu icon, you have to use the "Tab" key to cycle through the various pieces. Using the "Home" and "End" keys will rotate them.

With those pieces, you can do something like this simple example...

And that's just the avenues. Practically the same pieces exist for roads and one-ways.

You know, that makes me feel like an utter jerk. I wanted that a couple of days ago and never even looked. One gets set in one's ways.

Well the NAM didn't have them at the beginning, and I am not one to read long screeds. I usually find these things out by asking the machine. If it is doing what I want, I generally am too lazy to try and stretch it.

Elevated highways are fine in their place, which is not in the downtown. Elevated Avenues are all puzzle pieces and really only good for fancy overpasses.

Going elevated can be useful, but if you actually need more space for buildings, going underground could be better.

With the hole digger tools mod you could make a little tunnel, over which you can build (leaving free tiles all around the entrance).

You can't build under an elevated thing, but you can build over any underground passage.

I.E. : to avoid an avenue 4-ways intersection in the middle of your downtown you can have one stretch of avenue go underground, raising up again just before the commercial district and having the intersection right there. That solves congestion in the R area, improves traffic in the C area and leaves you more room to build.

On the sides of the entrance of a tunnel, no road can be built, but buildings CAN. The same applies for overpasses.

It's not realistic because cars will have to 'fly' into buildings, but it still works.

You can also do a 4-decker way using underground, ground, elevated, and over-elevated way, in case of extreme traffic. Or if you just love roller coasters :D
