This does NOT look good. To cartoon-y and too small. Too focused on multiplayer.

Why cant they make it look like google earth? There is NO need to render the entire city at once. Just the section you are looking at. If Google Earth can do all this without bogging down a computer then Sim City should be able to too.

Starting to look like just another cash grab from EA...

Even guys from the White House took notice...

That's cool. But please don't let them impose their political agendas on the game!

You do realize that this isn't Youtube's comment section, don't you?

He's Kip Katsarelis, the Lead Producer for the game, and a veteran of Maxis.

Ahhh... My apologies, I thought this was YouTube.....

Apart from that comment in stating the obvious, the awards were well deserved. I'm surprised it's getting the attention of the White House and Mayor of LA.

I don't think it is surprising. Keep in mind that a lot of people that work at the White House are in the age range that grew up with the original SimCity. I don't expect the POTUS to be spending his time checking out SimCity (he's obviously got more important stuff to do), but lower level White House staffers are a perfect demographic, especially when you consider the topic of the game.

I imagine GB could be used to simulate military/financial things easily enough. Any governor from Dr Doofenshmirtz to the President of the Time Lords would be interested in the virtual device.

The main issue I have with the new data release is that cities appear to be separate like in CXL, whereas I wanted to create something like this:

Um.... just wondering here... Is it weird that at every gaming site I go to, they barely mention simcity or it's in a very small article.

Doesn't this mean not much marketing or probably I'm not noticing it.

But around my co-workers and friends only 2 knew about simcity coming out.

I have been reading the news on simcity and just like most said here not very much was said :-( When they tweeted follow us on E3 I was expecting to much good news to handle, but basicly it was the same a month ago but we got 5 min footage at least :D

Interest for SC has considerably dwindled down in the past years. With the new SCS (SimCity Social :boggle: ) going to be released soon, I'm hoping that will improve in a quirky kind of way.

According to simcity.com, they will be releasing a recap of E3 next week.

Three days, 21 hours, 23 nominations, 6 wins and many demos later, E3 2012 is over.

    The machinima interview

Found a few things interesting from the interview.

You can stop time, so i'm assuming you can speed up as well.

There will be separate pipes including a sewerage system.

I noticed their are emergency vehicles responding with lights and sirens. May be nit-picking, but I was hoping for cars to pull over and do more realistic things. Just looks like their driving normally in traffic, but with their lights on.

I also wonder if their will be car accidents, causing traffic delays, and emergency vehicles responding like shown in that first picture released for the game.

It's obvious that traffic is not yet complete. At one point, every car was pulling up to an intersection and doing a U-Turn. There were also cars driving through each other and off-road.

Guess so, hopefully they also fix up the problem where vehicles change lanes, looks like they just shift while facing straight, rather than turning or anything.

Where did you hear there wasn't terraforming?

Also, is the reason for such little building variation due to the game not being done yet or...?

If you look closely in the videos, you can see berms surrounding some sides of the cities, which implies they are added manually, as htey only encircle parts of the city, and are relatively smooth curves.

I can't believe they only have a video and some screenshots to show off! I was hoping for a bit more details :-( But I guess it's still early.

If you think about it, it makes sense that there'll be no terraforming. In SC4 regions we could terraform and "reconcile edges" across an entire map. It was possible to make a region appear seamless, both in terms of the land form and in terms of development. But in SC2013 how could that ever work? If you have a region being built by different players, non-cooperatively, it will range from difficult to impossible to construct a region as we knew it in SC4. Even if the players are working together it still is unlikely that everything will match up. This is why I believe that regions will be fairly generic. Cities will have a lot of space between them They will be connected by roads and highways and will share resources/crime/pollution, but will otherwise exist as unattached entities on the region map.

They are still holding back a lot of details, you can tell from the amount of questions they rejected at that Q & A.

But in SC2013 how could that ever work?

Because, from what I've seen, not a single city butts up directly against another city. Even the Airport shown in the trailer was in an area devoid of trees, miles away from the two contributing cities. If that doesn't scream "Buffer zone", I don't know what does.

I haven't found any good info yet regarding how exactly cities in a region are going to be laid out, or how seemless everything can be.

For all we know, some or all of the empty parts can actually still be built on. But for now, we can only speculate.

    ...

Also, is the reason for such little building variation due to the game not being done yet or...?

Here's a quote from Dan Moskowitz

    ...

Of course, at one point in development we only had one asset for each of the 9 Wealth/Density combinations... everyone’s commercial sector was road after road of gas stations.

    http://www.simtropol...transcript-r232

We could only assume that the game would have more building variation as the development progresses.
