Some of these choices are speculations and rumors… But if you have any ideas that you would like to see in the game, post in the discussion below!

Note: You can select more than one choice in the poll above.

I selected the "redstone machines" option but actually I have more to add.

At this point minecraft needs to stop going off in weird new directions and finish existing features. It needs little things to round out the game and make it feel complete.

Things I would add, that are very simple:

-clocks and maps can be put on a wall like a painting

-record players hold music discs like a chest holds an item, and will loop songs and/or can be activated with redstone.

-directional powered rails that can launch a cart from a dead stop without a wall behind them

-the 8 "new" music discs should be available as a rare chest item in dungeons

-the new book and quill item can be placed in a bookshelf

-something that can be used to detect light and output an on/off redstone signal

things that have been promised but are low priority-

-bring back sponges as sea life

-varieties of existing mobs, e.g. a desert sand creeper or a red zombie

things that aren't simple but would be cool

-underground biomes

-rare things that are found in specific biomes and give a reason to explore

I would love to see the new mobs that Jon said he will implement. He mentioned fishes. I would also like to see crabs (spawn on sand near water, neutral, only snap at you if you punch it) and maybe even snakes or scorpions (spawn on sand in desert biome or far from water). Adding mud for swamps and jungles and a special jungle tall grass and glowing mushrooms (and glowing tall mushrooms) would be cool. I don't care about the sky dimension because the Aether mod does a far better job. Written books should indeed be able to be stored in bookshelves.

Writable books and Single Player Commands are currently in the most recent weekly snapshot and will be in version 1.3.0.

The book recipe however has changed to 3 paper & 1 leather. To make a book you can write in, you'll need to place 1 book, 1 ink sac, & 1 feather in the crafting grid.

Also cocoa plants are in the most recent snapshot and will be available in jungle biomes.

I would also like to see the Mod API made as quickly and high quality as possible. I would not mind waiting until June for 1.3 if it is stable and supports Plug-ins.

quests

ok its been a while since i minecrafted last, but it sort of bores the terraria into me because... yeah it's fun to build and build and build and... but nothing else to do. fighting off some mobs every night just isnt enough of to keep me hooked for more than a couple hours.

terraria, altho pixel 2d and discontinued, had me playing day in and day out to collect all items and fight off all bosses to "beat" the game

EDIT: thats why i voted adventure game mode... guess that would go the direction i was talking about

I guess the one type quest would be...

    FIGHTING THE ENDER DRAGON!

I mean, Terraria was a stupid 2D Minecraft ripoff that was abandoned after slightly over a year while Minecraft is still going strong. It would be very easy to give Minecraft every good feature in Terraria in a matter of months. I mean there are already mods that do so.

If you include Millénaire and Æther, you have original features that are an improvement over Terraria. You could throw in any of the half dozen quality mods that add all the blocks and items of Terraria and you are set for life.

stupid ripoff? yeah the parallels are obvious but you cant really compare them as the core gameplay is a whole different thing.

in terraria you build to progress through the "missions", in minecraft you build to... well... build...

apart from liking the visuals and atmosphere of terraria better, minecraft is just too much sandbox for me I guess... I have it and like it for a while but get bored very very fast. I'm yet to give 1.2.5 a try, gonna do it once its updated...

I love Millénaire, it allows you to trade and do quests.

yeah and something like that implemented into the real game. minecraft offers just sooo much potential besides the pure creativity that is yet to be taken care of...

As I said in the Minecraft topic:

"I'd like to see additional ores in minecraft, possibly a currency (gold coins, maybe) that can be used to purchase/sell items or trade with Testificates (Testificate shopkeepers?), additional biomes, better biome transitions (swamp to desert is horrific), additional items and blocks, and maybe more mobs. Of course, a lot of this can be obtained through mods, but I'd still like to see them in vanilla Minecraft."

And on the Terraria/Minecraft debate: I think they're both really great games; they each have good and bad aspects. I like the creative items and biomes of Terraria, but I also like the expansive, 3D Minecraft worlds.

just to shed a different light at the stupid ripoff thing, minecraft is a ripoff itself (infiniminer)

EDIT: totally forgot what I really wanted to say... there seems to be a trading system to come with a further update of the game, stumbled over some beta footage yesterday

well since the maximum map size in minecraft amounts to almost twice the surface of the earth* I guess he's watching a little more than just that ^^

    * accordind to notch; he said the map limit is 30.000.000 blocks across wich means the map is 30,000km x 30,000km, so the total map size is at 900,000,000km², the earth amounts to a little over 500,000,000km²

Herobrine was only implemented as a joke by some game creators during a small update that only lasted about a week, but then people kept on saying they still see it.

minecraft is a ripoff itself (infiniminer)

I have played Infiniminer... That game is nothing like Minecraft... The only thing that is related to it is the blocks!

Infiniminer doesn't even have crafting!?!? Also what makes Minecraft an awesome game is the atmosphere.

I think atmosphere makes a game have its character, fun, and replay value, not its graphics.

I am getting impatient with the Plugin API but more valuable currency would be nice, like rubies. Rubies would also make good tools.

then you obviously don't know where minecraft comes from. Notch himself said that he took the main inspiration from infinitminer

    other than that, you're right.

That's why we still play Sc4 after almost 10 years, aswell as many other games we just can't get our hands off, be it for nostalgic sentimentalities or the pure fun of playing it

To go back to the original topic, I would like to see:

-More Mobs, specifically ones that you can do more with than just eat and kill. Horses for example (you could ride them around)

    -Capture the flag sounds fun

-More farming for sure (lets not turn this into Farmville though)

    -Spike block for traps

-I'd like to see more added to dungeons, things like traps that can only be triggered by the player.

-More things definitely need to be added to the end.

-I'd like a trading system like the one added by the Millenaire mod. I don't really like the one coming in the 1.3 update.

And a couple that weren't on the list:

-Tables and chairs you can craft

-The ability to make custom boats that you can actually sail, or the ability to add blocks to the current minecraft boat.

    Hmm...

I would like copper, silver, tin, aluminum, rubies.

Copper ore would be like brown iron, aluminum ore would look like bauxite (so kinda like gravel), ruby ore would look like red diamond ore or red emerald ore (though I think emerald ore looks like green diamond ore). I would also like sapphires.

There are already landmines. Put a trigger wire or pressure plate to set off dynamite. Unfortunately, horses are only in mods.

Yes, but it takes time to set of the "landmines", and there's a noise with it, giving people the "run away now" warning.
