Hi everyone, welcome to Norwich, my first city journal. This is NOT a scale version of Norwich, UK. I just chose the name because I love living here so much. The region is hand-terraformed, although I will do more hills as I build further into the region, I just wanted to get on with building, you know how it is....
I am not using any mods, but a heck of a lot of lot files and BAT's downloaded from the exchange. It would be near impossible to name everyone to credit them, can I just say a huge thanks to all you wizards out there, and well done for your fantastic creations. Please feel free to post any comments you feel fit, be fair and all suggestions will be carefully considered. Don't be worried about being too critical, after all, some of the finest and most prestigious names throughout history were also the most unfairly treated, criticised and doubted people.

After several years of seeing his hard-earned money being wasted by the government's frivolous spending policies, a local businessman decided to sell his lucrative firm of fishmongers and buy a huge block of land from the government. The land measured 644.25 square miles (equivalent to 8 x 8 large maps). He wanted to build a city where the were no council tax rises, only drops, where the was very little crime or poverty, and everyone played a major role in society. Ambitious? That was the nature of the man......

Good idea building Norwich, one thing you should really include is Carrow Road. The home of the Canaries,
I was really glad to see them win the Division 1 title. After allmost 10 years they R playing higher then Ipswich!!!

This is the very centre of the new region, on the River Hex, where they decided to build first.
    /idealbb/files/Norwich10860275835.jpg

This is the area immediately east, towards the coast....
    /idealbb/files/Norwich1086027726.jpg

This is the northern costal area, including Broadland, a system of lakes dug many years ago to obtain peat (an ancient form of fossil fuel) which were then filled with water over many decades and now support a rich array of wildlife.
    /idealbb/files/Norwich1086027784.jpg
This is the southern coastal area.
    /idealbb/files/Norwich1086027836.jpg

Comments welcome, and obviously, with the help of my good friend and new Simtropolian, Mayor Dim, I have resolved my technical issues!!!!44.gif

Thanks subedei. This is the first borough to be civilised, Central Norwich. The bridge in the picture is Norwich Bridge, the first bridge to span River Hex.
    /idealbb/files/Centralnch1.jpg

This is the initial shape of the allocation of residential and commercial zones. Mayor George hopes that one day, this area will be the hub of one of the world's finest cities. The park is Green Park, named after Norwich City Football Club's heroic goalkeeper. The road network is also taking shape, together with two railway stations, St. Andrew's Station and Albert Station.
    /idealbb/files/Centralnch2.jpg
This is the residential area after 1 year of development.

    /idealbb/files/Centralnch31.jpg
....and finally here is the industrial area, to the east along the A13. This, currently, is heavy industry, although Mayor George hopes be in a position soon to demolish these areas in favour of cleaner, more advanced industries and technologies.

This was the next stage of development in Central Norwich, after 10 years. The commercial district had grown to meet the demands of a growing populous.... Recent additions to the area are, Goldiva's Waterfront Hotel, the most exclusive hotel in town (the only, actually), Norwich City Hall, so Mayor George could hold meetings with his advisors in civilised surroundings rather than from a bunch of deckchairs on his lawn, and BBC Radio Norwich. Now playing: Steve Winwood - Valerie./idealbb/files/Centralnch5.jpg
This is the growing residential area, with the new hospital and Norwich Cathedral...../idealbb/files/Centralnch6.jpg
This is the expanded industrial zone. Included in this shot is the Electric Power Station.
    /idealbb/files/Centralnch7.jpg

This is a regional transportation view after 10 years....
    /idealbb/files/Norwichregtrans10yrs.jpg

    ...and the equivalent satellite view...
    /idealbb/files/Norwichsat10yrs.jpg

This city is far from Mayor George's plans for the future, but he hopes that advice from his trusted advisors (you guys) will help him achieve his goals.

It looks nice with the water and so, but.... I can't see any elevation, is there any??
And the zones look kinda griddy, I hope you change this in the other parts you will build.

And where will the home of the Canaries be???

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. Yes it is flat at the mo but I plan to add hills as I grow outwards, I'm one of those impatient people who just can't wait to build, I'm afraid...

The grids are in plan to facilitate enough economic stability to provide for an acceptable rate of growth (dictionary, anyone.....) AND of course so Mayor George can save enough simoleans to build a football shrine worthy of his first division champions. Off-topic slightly, are you a Canaries fan also?44.gif

I'm also very impatient to start building my maps.

I also support the Canaries (also Leyton Orient), I first heared of Norwich when I got my hands on a bootleg copy of CM2. I fell in love with the yellow/green, I live in Holland so the only way I could follow Norwich is by the BBC. It's great to see the canaries play again in the Premier League, let's hope they can stay there for a long time.44.gif

Here is one of two new developments in Central Norwich, new housing and a hi-tech industrial park.
    /idealbb/files/Centralnch11.jpg

...and the second is Broadwater Island. With Broadwater Station, and the imminent development of north and south banks opposite, Mayor George hopes that this small island can fulfill his plans for tall offices without sinking..... The double bridge far left will soon also be part of Norwich's Inner Ring Road.....

Hi Andrew.....I like the start of your city journal....it's a little rough when you first start out but as you go along you start learning different things and slowly your journal will start picking up. Your region looks kool. Your buildings though seem to be missing some things. What do you have your setting at. Like I have mine on the high and my shadows are on medium.........Do you use modds? If not you might want to try some of those, helps with your water problem. Ummmm other than that, I think it's started out real well, keep up the good work and don't be afraid to experiment. #1 rule is to have fun. If you don't have fun and stress about your cities and regions then you lose interest...trust me been there done that! I'm gonna keep an eye on this city journal. But if you need any kind of help, feel free to ask! Thanx bunches for all your hard work and sharing it with us!

Hello again everyone, sorry for lack of updates I have been on holiday for a week. Anyway, these shots are from 34 years playing time, and again please feel free to comment as you see fit. NEW UPDATE - MAYOR GEORGE DOES FAVOURS FOR SAILORS (ooh er...)

Welcome to the latest update of my Norwich region, this is Maidenwell, a new settlement east of Central Norwich along the A13. The man-made docks are (it's planned) going to provide a whole new range of possibilities for Norwich's industrial businesses. The first screenshot is after 1 year of colonization.....

    /idealbb/files/1Maidenwelloverview.jpg

The second screenshot is of the Great Western Dock, Norwich's first shipping port.....

    /idealbb/files/2Maidenwellgreatwesterndock.jpg

The next one is St. Michael's Cathedral, Maidenwell's symbol of it's own religious identity......

    /idealbb/files/3MaidenwellStMichaelsCath.jpg

    /idealbb/files/5Maidenwellembsuitescommute.jpg

And, finally for now, is some hi-tech industry providing some top jobs for Norwich's highly-educated overspill......

    Fresh expansion to the south......

After establishing to docklands area of Maidenwell, Mayor George decided that another annexe to Central Norwich should be created, hence the Borough of Kelseyheath. Kelseyheath was named due to a prominent wooded area close to the A30. The location was chosen for the expansion due to it's excellent transport links to Central Norwich via the A3(M), A30, A2 and by rail. After 16 months the borough provides homes and employment for some 27,000 inhabitants. This is a view of the new settlement, with labels for places of interest.....

    /idealbb/files/1Kelseyheathlabelsbegin.jpg

Here is the rest of the smallish area, with industrial areas in the west....

    /idealbb/files/2Kelseyheathunlabelled.jpg

And finally, the rapid growth of commercial prospects in the area has led to a few office buildings springing up. Also, in the extreme bottom-left, Radio Vibe F.M. Now playing........ Linkin Park - In The End.

    /idealbb/files/3Kelseyheathcommerceradio.jpg

And, as before (at the risk of sounding redundant), comments greatly appreciated.....

    Thanks
