if you want to open the locale Dat you will need the Ilive reader found in the Mods and Downloads section.

Hope that helps

Yeah you are absolutly right. In the program/simcity4 folder:

simcitylocaledat8rp.jpg

The highlighted folders are the folders where the simcity4locale.dat is located.

it is not allowed to talk about such thing.

elsewhere? every copy of SC4 has all the language files, so you must have installed the wrong file

hope this helps

Hey ppl I have got a UK sc4 deluxe version so it doesn't contain English simcitylocale.dat, it only contains the UKEnglish one. It would be great if somebody sends the English file to me or tells where to download it.

I checked the Simcitylocale.dat folders. I have the deluxe European version but it doesn't have an English directory (only English-UK) not even on the CD. All the other folders have the Simcitylocale.dat for Finnish, Polish, Spanish etc...

I swear I have an official version (Just bought in the local MediaMarkt).

With the present UK-english version cars are driving on the left.

Can someone possibly send me a copy of the english (non-UK) Simcitylocale.dat?

My email is: kesimi(a)freemail.hu

Thanks in advance,

overhead

Thank you for the method. I'm playing Thai version but the game is right-hand driving version even Thailand is left-hand driving country.

I create UKEnglsh folder and copy files from Thai folder into it and change registry to 13. In game, language is Thai and has left-hand driving version but wrong font. I have to delete all fonts in SimCity 4\Fonts folder, copy Microsoft Sans Serif from Windows\Fonts folder and paste into SimCity 4\Fonts folder. Now my SimCity 4 is Thai language with left-hand driving!

hmm I just tried it, because I have the european version (live in holland) and chose English while installing people are driving on the left lane instead of the 'normal' right side.

I've changed it to 1 in the registry because it's said here that it is the one for english language and driving the right side lanes, instead it made the game dutch language and people were still driving on the 'wrong' side of the street.

I don't want dutch despite living here, I just want english and left hand drive (right side lane).

Originally posted by: rendermad Well, the number in 'Language' determines which folder to look in for SimCityLocale.dat, your date and money format and the side you drive in (probably more stuff, but that's all I've determined).

1 stands for the 'English' folder, m/d/y $xx and right hand driving.

13 (19 in decimal) stands for 'UKEnglsh' and left hand driving.

5 stands for 'Spanish', d/m/y xx$ and right hand driving

I haven't tried all the possible numbers, but you get the idea, right?quote>

So where can I edit so as to suit the "SimCityLocale.dat" file?  The "dat" file cannot be opened with IE or word, although if opened with Word, a long list of incorrect and unreadable characters (mojibake) do appear.  What else may I do?

(I'm a Hong Kong user, and I'd like to follow the British LHS and other possible variables which are in line with Britain).

Thank you, so I've downloaded "Ilive - Reader 0.9", but how, then, can I change / locate the "UKEnglsh" file, or modify it into number 13 using the "Reader"?  Can anyone tell me the steps in operating the "Reader"?  I really want to change it into LHS driving like UK.  Or are there other programs which can directly convert this without changing the "SimCityLocale" configuration?

My file is in "Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\English\SimCityLocale", and this SimCityLocale is the only file in my SimCity big folder.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, this has already been alluded to in this thread but for a clear cut solution:

Switching from Right to Left Hand Drive - and Vice Versa

Its simple, you don't need to download anything. Keep in mind that I did not discover this solution, I have only written down in a step by step instruction.

Have fun, and play safe 9.gif

Edit: Apologies since it only caters for English speaking users, but correspond the Registry Number and the Folder Name for your particular language and it should work just as well!

My solution is somewhat different since, I don't have numbers in my registry. I installed the UK version, but I don't want left-hand-drive. In my registry I had two entries:

Language: "English UK"

locale: "en-uk".

I changed them both to us, but this lead to my game being in dutch, but right hand side.

I then made a copy of the EnglshUK language folder and renamed it to Dutch.

I know have rhd and english language.

FYI Windows 7 64 bit has SC4 registry values under: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Wow6432Node\Maxis\SimCity 4.

Simply put: There is no download. This is part of your installation of Simcity 4. This tutorial was posted in a CJ by abcvs: LINK.
