In my childhood, I like watching animated cartoon. Popeye is my beloved one. Popeye likes eating spinach which can endow him infinite power; and then he can beat any evildoer with his strong body.

It is reported that 3d Popeye will be released. It's exciting news to me-a 3d animation /3d visualization and Popeye lover.

I remember the first time when Popeye appeared on screen is in 1980.

Director Robert Ferdinand had ever directed a live-action version "Popeye" movie and comedy star robin Williams played the leading role. But the film was undesirable as expected. Maybe the animated cartoon impressed people deeply. Perhaps director learned the lessons of the film, this time 3d animated Popeye is shot. Up to now, the plot of 3d Popeye is still secret. But we have known that Popeye's girlfriend Olive, his sworn enemy Pluto and his adopted Swee'pea will be presented in screen. I'm expecting 3d Popeye.

I actualy liked the Robin Williams Popeye movie. :ninja:

Something I thought was interesting as a child: Blue's Clues (if you can consider that) and Little Bear (Still have some of the old cassette tapes lurking somewhere)

Something I enjoyed as a child but still enjoy somewhat: Tom and Jerry (Classic cartoon violence and physical defiances FTW)

Something I once watched but now despise: Scooby Doo and Looney Toons

Something I now enjoy: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (Suitable not only for little girls and "nostalgic" mothers, but their older brothers, too)

I'm not too fond with most of the old-school cartoons, only the ones that would air on Nick Jr back during the '90s because that's when I grew up.

My favourites are: It's the Big Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown's Christmas, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the first one). As for non-features, I prefer Roadrunner/Coyote, especially the early ones with the Latin subtitles.

As for incidental animations, I am particularly partial to the titles of the Pink Panther movie.

I usually like the cartoons that get aired at night... as a kid I was a big Simpsons/Futurama fan, occasionally I still watch them. Family Guy is sometimes good for a laugh, although as opposed to most people I actually think American Dad is better - it seems to have less of that 'random' humour I can never really get into. The Cleveland spin-off is just unwatchable.

South Park is good, they go overboard sometimes but there's always a method to the madness. King of the Hill can sometimes be really good too. I have no idea why but every time he says “I sell propane and propane accessories…” or some variant of it I just crack up.

Hm. I like South Park. If I stick to TV series, I'll say Batman: The Animated Series, Spider-Man and X-Men (from the 90s), Cowboy Bebop, Avatar: The Last Airbender (excellent!) and... uhm... That's it, really. Animation doesn't really do it for me, I'd rather be reading comic books. I saw some episodes of the new Avengers series that came out last year, and they're okay.

As for movies, Akira is head and shoulders above almost all other animation, although its baffling plot can be inaccessible at best and completely incomprehensible at worst. I love Charlie Brown's various holiday specials for nostalgic reasons. Titan AE was cool, but not so good that I can clearly remember the plot today. Pixar and Studio Ghibli have produced some of the best stories of all time, not just animation but movies in general. Up was the best movie released two years ago, regardless of what the Philistines in the Academy may believe, and My Neighbor Totoro is a so wonderful it is impossible for me to watch and not feel good.

My favorite new cartoon is Spongebob (yes, I still like that show).

My all time favorite cartoon is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

I am a huge animated TV fan. I watch more of it than any other media by far.

I like... um there are lots.

Boondocks, Simpsons, Futurama, Samurai Jack, Ugly Americans, Frisky Dingo (my all time favorite), Family Guy is alright - I especially enjoy season 9 when they strayed away from the cutaway humor a bit more, Archer is okay although Frisky Dingo is far superior, like every other college student I do enjoy Adventure Time quite immensely, I like the old Looney Toons but I find them difficult to obtain in this digital age -- especially the Roadrunner & Wile E. Coyotes of course.

There are many more, but I don't have my external harddrive connected at this immediate moment...

Sci-Fi, comedy, fantasy, and anime. My autocorrect won't let me list examples.

To be honest, I wish the My Little Pony franchise never existed. The merchandise is garbage and the original 30 minute commercials were horrible (worse than the worst transformers). I read on a wish thread that someone wanted to prevent the birth of the creator of Friendship is Magic. I like Faust and only wish that the franchise never existed so that Faust could have worked on superior programming instead of redeeming a rubbish franchise with a great show and pulling in fans that could have benefitted from any other type of cartoon Faust could make.

Did you know that MLP:FIM was actually an in-between project for Faust? She wanted to use this series as a step up to another series she always wanted to make... and she succeeds. In fact, she has left the crew now, so she can work on her new dream project. So actually, thanks to MLP:FIM, she IS working on a superior project.

Besides, she did an excellent job by making a bland and boring franchise about ponies into something funny and less girly (although, the opening sequence is the most annoying and girly part of the show). The main reason why it's so successful? Humour, villians and action. Humour is actually something typically manly, and villians and action as well. The earlier series lacked one or two or all three of these factors, but this series has them, making the series so enjoyable to watch. Besides that, the characters are pretty likeable; I'm not liking the merchandise, I like the characters and the strange world they are in.

Although I'm a brony, I'd not say the series is perfect, in fact, it's still far from it, but it's still suprisingly good. The first time I was trying to watch the series I was like "let's see how bad this is", but it was totally not what I expected it to be. Give episode 1 a try, set your mind to zero and then judge if you like it or not.

Best,

Maarten

< Avatar related. I love Adventure Time. Mostly because a lot of the humor is subtle and barely noticeable, it's not a "HEY PAY ATTENTION TO MY JOKE" like every cartoon is (in a way). And even aside from that the stories, characters, animation, and more... are all great in themselves. :)

Adventure Time is probably my Favorite cartoon, followed by MLP:FiM. I grew out of shows like Family Guy and Futurama some time ago. The only other one I watch is South Park, and even that I'm starting to die out of.

But I can't outweigh any of the shows I watched in my childhood. Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, Flintstones, Ed, Edd & Eddy, Samurai Jack, Powderpuff Girls Spongebob, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Invader Zim. . Can't think of them all right now. :P

Although I wonder what my opinion on shows I like now would have been when I was very young.

I know this is old but I've got to put my two simoleans in on this.

When I was young, Starblazers was my absolute favorite cartoon. Then by 9-13 or so I loved G.I. Joe, Heman, Voltron, and Tranzor Z oh and let's not forget Thunder Cats.

Now I like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and Futurama!!!

I've been doing a top 10 Disney movies (and songs), and a top 10 cartoon theme songs, so since theme songs are in focus here, my top 3

3. Transformers (80's) why not love this, it's hyper, loud, flashy, and of course, that robot voice that says "robots in disguise" and the song, simplistic as it is, is very catchy as well.

2. Taz-Mania ok I hate this show, but for one reason: bad memories of it. Way whatever you want, Taz used to scare the s--- out of me, probably because a carnivorous thing with DEVIL in its name was, well.... I was 6, don't judge me. But this song is catchy, fun, Australian accents, cool animation, and is just an overall fun ong.

1. Animaniacs composed by the same person as the Taz-Mania theme song, this one is 100% lovable. Catchy, clever, cute, has Bill Clinton playing the Sax, and even references Pinky and the Brain, my #4 theme song. Plus, it's probably the only cartoon to have the word "vamoose" in it. It's a really good theme song to a really good show.

I'm an enormous fan of old Tom & Jerrys, up until MGM stopped making them in like 1959. Everything after that was lame IMO.

I really liked Venture Bros up until recently, when Jackson Publick and I had a particularly vitriolic public exchange (well, he was vitriolic; I kept my cool and wasn't disrespectful) via his blog concerning his sudden politicization of the show to mock people of faith. I was done with VB at that moment.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

They're Australian accents? o.O

EDIT: I found a pretty good video of the accent in it's real form. This is what most people sound like.

I think the voice that says "Welcome to the land that's way under down under, the sky's always yellow in the rain or shine" sounded really Auatralian. The "Down in Tasmania, Come to Tasmania" isn't.

My favourite cartoon? My all time favourite? My king of all cartoons? Hmm...

Omigosh...I have been trying to recall this show for years!  I just receive a reply yesterday to an inquiry I once posted in 2007 on an anime fan site asking for info on this show based on the scanty plot details I could scrap out of my childhood memory.  To my utter surprise, you coincidentally posted its English-version opening here as well!

"Il était une fois... l'espace" ("Once Upon A Time...Space"), a French and Japanese co-production from 1982.  It was repackaged in 1983 as ""La revanche des humanoids" ("Revenge of the Humanoids").  No wonder I have always had a fascination with fascist space empires centered on the constellation Cassiopeia...

Another brilliant French-Japanese collaboration was "The Mysterious Cities of Gold" ("Les Mystérieuses Cités d'or").

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq5Y_ogiyi0

Ah, the good old days of televised Japanimation..."Tranzor Z," "Star Blazers," and "Robotech" must have altered an entire generation of impressionable kids.

My favorite animation is however, undeniably Disney's. It kind of goes without saying that it's best. Heck, we all probably have our 5 favorite Disney songs, movies, villains, you name it.

My favorite cartoon of all time is Invader Zim. It's probably one of the few shows that managed to present dark humor in a way that wasn't unfunny or offensive to the viewer.

I don't think I have to explain what my current favorite cartoon is.

Now, in terms of anime, my favorites are Soul Eater (didn't like the ending), Cowboy Bebop and FMA: Brotherhood.

It is not the best, but one of the neatest animated cartoons is a black and white named Steam Boat Willie and the principle actor was one Michael Mouse.

I need help!!! Does anybody know of this cartoon? For the life of me, I can't remember the name of this...

Humans made a species of peeps to help them. Of course they revolted and took over the Earth. They ran the humans almost out of the solar system. So the humans had to fight back one planet at a time to retake Earth. I wish I could tell more but I don't remember too much else. I think it was out in the early 90's. Oh towards the end of the series the humans were able to retake Austrialia for a short time but it was retaken. I think that lasted for two or three episodes. The humans finally did retake Earth in the end though.

So if anyone can remember or find out about that I would greatly appreciate it!!!
