    @ shoRt-mAn123, your range is 0xF5780000 to 0xF57FFFFF

The texture pack you released on the STEX has IIDs that are allocated to the SimMars team.

If you could lock this file, and re-IID it with IIDs from your range above it would be appreciated!

    All the Best,

Hi, I'm planning on making some of my own textures for some buildings and a possible transportation retexture. Are there any ranges left?

BlackDragonAJ89, when you say "textures for some buildings" do you mean the textures ON the buildings? This texture index is for the ground base and overlay textures. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "transportation retexture". Do you mean something like the Euro Roads modds? If so, that is a completely different area from the ground base and overlay textures. For creating alternate textures for Maxis streets/roads etc. you have to create a new set of textures and use the existing Maxis IIDs.

Sorry if I've misunderstood your request, but you'd be amazed at how many times I've allocated a range, and then received PMs asking me how to apply them to buildings and Maxis roads!

If you want a texture range to create a set of base/overlay textures just let me know. And yes, there are still ranges left!

Yeah, I should have clarified a bit better. =P I was talking about ground/base textures.

Anyway, I would like a texture range for the base and ground textures, since I am making those too.

As for the roads and rails, I see what you mean, so I don't have to worry about those then.

Hopefully that clears up things a bit.

How to make an Overlay Texture...

I had a look through the site and to my surprise I couldn't find a tutorial on the subject.  I'm sure there was one once, but it would have been waaaaay back in the early days.

Without actually writing a tutorial myself (just haven't got the time at the mo) here are the basics.

Put at its simplest level, an overlay texture is a texture which allows the viewer to see not only colours from the overlay texture itself, but also some of the colours from the base texture underneath.
So what use is this? Say you want to have a pathway going across a piece of grass. There is no base texture which has grass with a pathway going across it. But with overlay textures you can create the appearance of this quite easily.

    overlaystrip.jpg

The black areas of the overlay image allow the base texture to be seen 'through' the overlay image.  Black is totally transparent, whilst various shades of grey allow you to adjust the opacity of what is shown.

Hope this helps.  Please get back if it doesn't, or if anybody else can find a link to a full tutorial please post here!

Hey, that little bit helped... Thanks. I was making a basic PNG file, but without the black.

Anyway, I have one more newbie question: how do I work with the range I have? 0xF5980000 is what I named my first basic grass texture, so how do I name the next one in order? I couldn't get the instructions at the beginning of this thread too well. =/

In playing around with the base textures in the SC4 Tool, the program displayed a message which said that my personal range is 0xFC782DA0 - 0xFC783188. Is this correct? Did SC4 Tool get a correct range for me or do I still need a range. If I still need one then I would like to request one. Thanks in advance.

If you don't plan to release your textures, you can use the predefined range. However, there is no control that this range has never been used or issued by someone else, so in order to avoid possible problems, it's strongly recommended to request a range in this thread and then add it to SC4Tool.

@ Andreas Roth: Thanks a lot for your help.

So then I would like to request a range as well. Thank-you.
