Thanks for letting me know, kieran1408. That's a bummer that some people can see it, because I went back to edit Chapter 1 and it took me almost 20 minutes to get rid of the code. 27.gif I think I'll save that task for another day and just keep pressing on with new updates for now. 33.gif

Wow, this is an impressive CJ. It combines eye-candy pictures with the story element. That terrain is awesome! The building technique, with lots of little islands and nice neighborhoods, is awe-inspiring. What makes this so great is that it is so different from other regions. Realistic, eye-candy, and interesting. Great job. 10.gif

Thanks for the comments, comdude21, ninja12, and jglei701! 9.gif Slayer, I'm not sure what's going with on with the commute times in Oakdale and Beech Grove. I have a couple of badly overused water taxi stops - the Thirty Oaks landing and the more innocuous looking landing at the top of the Viola capitol site pic. I'm not sure how to fix that yet but I'll keep working on it. 7.gif Seems like a lot of extra minutes to blame on a couple ferry routes, but they do account for tens of thousands of commuters each. If I get it fixed before the vote I'll give you an update. 2.gif

Yay, mayor, because I was kinda thinking, If the commute time is that bad, who will vote for them?

Of course, you could just lie about the times...11.gif

I've been reading this CJ for a long time now, and it never ceases to entertain me.  I'm impressed with what you've done with the terrain.  Keep it up!

Looking forward to the next cities.

Okay, I spent two nights putzing with the over-capacity water taxi system in Oakdale and Beech Grove. In Oakdale, I added another station near the overcrowded one and the traffic compliantly divided almost perfectly in half between the two stations.

But in Beech Grove, grrrrr...26.gif All 24,000 commuters insist on going out of one station on the west side of the island at the center of the bottom edge of the pic below. If I put others nearby and tear down the orginal, the commuters en masse will shift to one of the new stations and use that exclusively instead. I blasted a channel through an uninhabited island (lower left of pic below) to try to generate some more varied ferry routes but it was no help. Finally, I downloaded some modding programs and changed the capacity of the water taxi station to 30,000. Commute time dropped from 325 to 300 minutes and has held steady there. 7.gif

Therefore, I think there's a bug in my commute times. There is zero congestion and zero abandonment in Beech Grove. I have no traffic mods except for better pathfinding, so there's no way this city should be functioning with 300 minute commutes. 47.gif I think the judges should disregard the commute time numbers or else I will just have to lie about them as Slayer suggested. 38.gif

Oh dear, I've just discovered some serious typos in the last update. 49.gif The commute times for Oakdale and Beech Grove are completely wrong! 43.gif Thank goodness I have the edit button to go back and fix that. 11.gif The final group of cities will be presented tonight and I promise to be more careful typing in those commute figures. 2.gif

5 days? I'm not sure if I have that much time (So I can't judge the story).

I'm impressed what you did with this diffcult terrain.

    Chapter 35 continued

The Simtropolis judges were relieved when the final package of photos arrived from the The Ragged Edge. How many cities were there? Phew, there were just five more to review, and then the voting would begin.

The first three cities were Tamarisk, Mandevilla, and Mt. Olive.

    Tamarisk

The new neighborhood ostensibly built as a home for the capitol building was called Meadowvale.

However, some Tamarisk residents noticed a certain sloppiness to the way the capitol site was prepared. It wasn

I'm definately voting for Oakdale... the first time I saw it, I knew that would be the city to beat.  I think it has the most potential for a large sized city.  There's a lot of space between the Downtown and Thirty Oaks, and Oakdale already has the biggest building in Ragged Edge.  It seems to be the best choice!!

Great, thanks for the votes, tommy_toon, jglei701, Shadow_Assassin, and kieran1408!

    We're now up to: 49.gif

    Oakdale - 2 votes
    Beech Grove - 2 votes
Daphne - 1 vote (<--- at least I assume this is what Adley meant because Daphne has the highest pop.)
    Acerton - 1 vote

    Keep 'em coming! 35.gif

Greetings, respected members of Simtropolis! Allow to introduce myself: I am August Owinde, mayor of beautiful city of Paw Paw. I urge you to consider Paw Paw when you vote

Beech Grove. People will get a nice view from the monorail bridge10.gif. Plus better development oppurtunities. Most of the other mayors stuck the capital region out on the edges of their city, this one is better integrated. And what is going to happen to all the areas that the losers set aside?

A capital should be central, offer easy access, have enough space for further development and it shouldn't be among the smallest or peripheral cities. Sorry Mr. Owinde, sorry, Father Buckthorn.

Viburnum has I think, most of room for building a large city, its location ist okay. But I don't like Red's style, and he smells too much like oil, this can't be good.

Oakdale is at a very good position on the map, reasonable size, nicely planned and good terrain. But again, I'm not convinced of Rose's character, the way she treated Violet, and her liaison with Red.

Daphne's amount of buildable terrain isn't excessive. But its geographical position is good, fast connections, it's the largest city (right?) and the rest of the stats are all right.  Ivy seems to be the most intelligent person in The Ragged Edge. So Daphne's destined to be the capital.  So matter how conservative or unoriginal my decision, it's just gotta be:

    number 4, Daphne.

No, no, no! This is all wrong! What you want, eh, a pretty lady, a little cash, a few WMDs? 38.gif No, I do better - a private island on The Ragged Edge for all judges who vote for me, er, vote for Paw Paw. 10.gif As for rest of you - when I become governor, there will be no diplomatic relations between The Ragged Edge and evil states of Hydrexis, Tonks Island, and Turry! 26.gif
