Cataclaw's BATs

Greetings.

To avoid spamming the BAT - Open Discussion forum too much, i've decided to put most information about all my upcoming BATs here.

The first post of this thread (i.e. this post) will contain information, images, progress indicators, etc.

NOTE: I'm notoriously unreliable when it comes to release dates. Sometimes i'll be late with projects due to RL issues, other times i'll have lots of free time to devote to BATting so i'll get things done early. It balances out okay.

Project #03 - An SAQ building

This is a small commercial services building. It's an SAQ Succursale as they are known here in Quebec. What do these so called SAQ shops sell? ALCOHOL and lots of it!! 29.gif

My first two projects are almost done and i've never exported a gmax file before or used the lot editor for that matter. So before I try it with my two big projects, I decided to create a small building to use as my guinea pig. 2.gif

If i'm successful, i'll STEXify the first two. I should have this BAT on the STEX in 2-3 days if I don't encounter any major problems.

(Sorry for the double-post, I wanted to keep the first post of this thread for general information. Hope you kind mods don't mind!)

News update! The SAQ Outlet BAT is finished! I spent hours figuring out how to render, export, use plugin manager and use lot editor. The results can be seen below.

    CC_SAQ_1.jpg

    CC_SAQ_2.jpg

The BAT/LOT is currently pending approval and will be available shortly on the STEX. I can tell you it's a great feeling to be finished with a project and to see your final work in-game. I hope you folks enjoy it. (I know it's just a small shop mostly only people from around here will recognize and appreciate, but oh what the heck 2.gif)

Now that I've gone through the process.. I feel confident to try this whole procedure on my other two big projects. 44.gif

    *MEEEP* Wrong!

While it may be true that only a few people here will recognize this building (I am not one of these people), there will be lots more who appreciate it (and this time I can count myself among this group of people).

I remember very well how those CS-filled suburbs looked with one boutique next to the other and all those little theatres.

Now, thanks to mostly SimGoober, KevDan25, JaWood and some others (whose ranks you have joined now), I can make really interesting-looking CS suburbs where not every building is labelled either Small shops or boutiques. 33.gif

So thanks for this small building and looking forward to seeing your other creations on the STEX!

Yeah that does look Futurama-ish! To me it's like a future style. "Neo-postmodern art deco"?

This is nice that you have all your projects on one page Cataclaw! I love all your Montreal/Quebec series so far, and will be watching for them here. 4.gif

    I'm back after a year-long leave!

Here are some shots of a soon-to-be released building, headquarters of the ToutSimCity.com community. Scroll up for an early screen shot, before i underwent a major overhaul.

Here it is before i upgraded the base:

Hi there! I'm using your SAQ lot in my CJ, it's to represent a Quebec region. Would you know of any building made of a Desjardins branch, or a Banque Nationale lot, or perhaps a church, like the ones we have around here? You know the type ( 2969_2.jpg )

    Keep up the good work!

WOW! I'm really happy to have stumbled across your BAT Journal! The last tower you posted is very incredible. I love the details around the base, on those large buildings details tend to get forgotten, so it's really refreshing to see a tower with lovely details! The only thing I might take another look at are the big round columns. It's an injection of Neo-Classical in an otherwise fabulous Art Deco styled tower! I think for the sake of continuity I might mass them and block them more so that if they're not square, they're atleast octagonal. Also, I have a question about the front doors. Is that a texture or an image applied to the surface to simulate a door? Did you do the same on the clockface? They look very incredible! Top work! I'll come back soon to see what you've posted!

Thanks for the suggestion, Mr. Glamazon.

You're right, when i take a good look at them, those columns do seem a bit out of place! I'll post an update soon. Thanks for the tip! Appreciate it.
