Some of you may have noticed a little button at the bottom of your posts that says "Simoleons".

What? You mean you haven't? Well, look down there... yes! See it? Click on it... wait, right-click and open in a new tab or window. You'll probably want to be able to see this thread. Anyway, that button takes you somewhere interesting. That's right, we have an economic system now! This purpose of this thread is to discuss it.

As of writing we have two types of bank accounts, one company on the stock exchange, a credit card, a welfare system, and loans. It looks like long-term investments and shop items may appear at some later date.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Well, a downside is, it promotes spamming but it could also promote good quality STEX uploads. Anyways it's pretty neat.

It might be the incentive I need to start posting more, in a wide range of topics. I've slowed down recently, but if my income depends on it... :P

Haha this is very exciting indeed! One of the many new features Dirk has unleased in ST7!

Hmm.. I wonder who holds (#1) in the rank for Simoleons.

The Richest Members list is on the right of the page, and there is a Rankings page under Global Economy. Pegasus is the richest with 47,530, followed by Jacqulina with 36,611.

    Net worth doesn't include investments.

A very nice new feature, I've already started spending some of my simoleons on shares. Make's me interact with the site much more now and I agree with Kevin, gives you something to stick around for if your playing SC4 less nowadays,

    Regards,

    Richard

Neat! I've put 150 into a savings account.

I'm interested in the shop section. Will I be able to list services and then sell them?

Well the shop will have items, though there's no mechanism for you to sell anything right now.

There will be some neat things to invest in, the fun thing about the ST Economy is that "market values" are based off of current site trends, but you're never sure what that could be (I'm sure the astute will be able to clue in, soon enough), for example, stock in "something" may be based on daily posts, total topics, replies, comment count, etc... So the idea is that it's not entirely random.

More will make sense over time! This is sort of a side-project the admins are working on, so expect to see new stuff crop up over time...

Question! What's the exchange rate from Simoleons to Pounds sterling? I'm thinking of making a deposit into my bank account.

The exchange rate is 1:i, where i is the square root of negative 1.

    :D

I advice to give a basic course of the new Simtropolis Economic System (Let's call it the STES :P) to people like me how don't know how to get through all this new stuff.

By the way... FLAM Inc. What is this "company" or whatever?

How long are the time periods, when interest in the savings account changes?

Getting points for reputation is a good idea, since it allows people who make good posts in the forums to get points even if they don't upload to the STEX or make CJs.

The interest cycle is 30 days, with 5% APY (annual percentage yield).

The stock adjustment cycle is every 1,440 minutes (24 hours), but that doesn't seem to have started yet.

Why is money in bank accounts not counted towards your net worth?

So we ask it here :)

Okay...so each page of the economy stuff takes about 3 years to load for me, but I still went about putting money into savings and stocks. Apparently, I can't buy more then 1000 stocks, so that's all I bought. Do I get to be a board member of Flam Inc? I own..around 1/8th of the company. :P

Oh, now that I'm actually looking at the economy stuffs, I think I'd be nice if there was a spot that would tell you the amount the stocks were when you bought them, for those of us who don't write it down or remember. I suppose it could just display the price of them from the last time you purchased, in the case of buying at different times.
