I totally understand that, astronelson. Coincidentally, 'weird' is one that gets me all the time. Is it 'wierd?' Nope, there's the squiggly red line, must be 'weird.' But that just doesn't look right...

EDIT: Here I am, yet again, welcoming you all to a new page!

I Skyped my friend an hour and a half inland, looked pretty bad to me (sounded bad too). The only reason they have power is a generator.

One spelling that irritates me is beautiful. AAH, NOT THE EAU!

Massive storm surge hit NYC last night, caused some pretty nasty damage... but I'm fine and everything here in my apartment is intact.

What part of NY do you live in? I know Manhattan is still without power.

Our campus had yet another drill on Monday. First the student union building was evacuated, then an hour later, the library was evacuated. I guess they want to make sure we are prepared for any disaster that might possibly (though highly improbably) hit us.

I live in Queens. I have power and never lost it. But yes, a huge chunk of Manhattan did, and is still out. Everything south of somewhere between 28th Street and 40th Street (sources conflict).

I had one kid: my own. But I live in Japan, and no one here knows the joys of trick or treating. Oh well.

Started up my second run at National Novel Writing Month. Got 4315 words written, and a MUCH better story and plan than last year.

Writing novels? That sounds interesting. I have never written any pieces of fiction besides assignments, dream journal entries, and the occasional fanfic elaborated from my dream journal. I rarely publish any of this.

I attempted to write a novel once, when I was in 9th grade. I actually got about 50 pages written but it was in a notebook, not typed (dumb, eh?). By the time I got around to starting to type it up, I wanted to massively revise it and kinda put it on hold while I thought it out more. And then a couple years down the road I realized the whole thing was utterly juvenile and decided it best to scrap it entirely. The notebook in question is probably still sitting somewhere at my parents' house, though...

I'm only up to 711 words on mine. I didn't plan it out well beforehand though.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Yeah, mine are both on my laptop, the current one's up to like 6325 or 6825 (I forget). Astronelson, if you want to be writing buddies, I'm over there under the same screen name. I'm pretty much only posting in the Japan forums, though.

I haven't perused the forums over there. The vast majority of my forum experience is on this site, and this site only.

I'll try and get some more down tonight.

I've been active on several forums that no longer exist. </internet codger>

Currently, beyond here, I'm active on AARoads and I lurk at Rockman Perfect Memories. I've also been known to poke my head into the xkcd forum occasionally but I'm not registered there. And then there are a few other sites that I'm registered at but rarely visit.

Most of the forums I'm active on are rather quiet these days, like the union I'm in.

I've always tried to start writing a story, but I never have the motivation to finish it.

Who is Taft? A 3rd party candidate or did you make him/her up?

William Howard Taft, 27th president of the United States. He only served one term, so he'd be allowed to run for President again. Y'know, if he didn't die in 1930.

I made the gif from the header of this page, which is about a book based on the very idea that Taft, in fact, rather than dying, merely disappeared.

On a saner note, apparently, candidate-wise, my views are closest to those of Jill Stein.

Funny fact about Taft, he had to have a specialized bathtub built for him in the whitehouse, which was removed after his tenure ended.

Jill Stein isn't someone I think would be qualified for president, If I had to chose the person running closest to my views and not vote for my party, It would be Andre Nigel Barnett of the Reform party, I like him a lot.

America's staved off the worst for quite some time, and appears to be recovering, if employment figures and GDP growth since mid-2009 are any indication. And the economy generally does better under Democrats.
