I find it weird how typhoons in the pacific aren't named in alphabetical order.

Then again, we're not primarily dealing with English speaking targets over there.

Australia names tropical cyclones in alphabetical order, as does Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, although the latter two skip a few more letters than we do. They have less area to deal with.

The Australian list has my name on it. Any tropical cyclone named by Papua New Guinea automatically has its name taken off their list, as it is relatively uncommon for one to start in their jurisdiction.

The typhoons here are numbered. The one we just got was "Typhoon Number 15", and it was pulled towards this course by "Typhoon Number 16". My coworkers and friends are greatly amused with us naming them (well, Americans naming hurricanes, at least), although their information is old: many people think we still use all women's names.
