I normally take the train once a month by Amtrak's Capitol Corridor. The only thing that annoys me is that I can get off in Rocklin, but I can't board here, I have to go all the way to Sacramento to board.

I took a train downtown with my aunt the past two summers when I was working in her office. We drove into the city like, once...and it was terrible. Can't imagine having to do that every day.

I take the train every (working) day, fastest way to get to uni.

Also @ Astro, seems QR are thinking of implementing free wi-fi on their trains :O

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I'm happy I've never had to commute by train the entire time I've lived in Japan. In Osaka and Saitama I could simply walk to work. Here in Izu, they hooked me up with a (very, very, very, crummy) car. Gas is expensive but my crummy little car gets pretty good mileage and I don't really have to drive very far, not like if I lived back in Toledo. I hate riding the trains. Hate it. I value my freedom.

Trains aren't freedom limiting if they run frequently enough. Which they certainly do on the line I ride to work.

And hey, as much as I love driving, I wouldn't want to be driving to work. Traffic and parking considerations aside (I do work in Manhattan), I enjoy taking the train for one simple reason: I can sleep on the train in the morning. Driving offers no such luxury.

Currently in Fresno, we have a bus system(And a trolly downtown), but the city is proposing to have a BRT(Bus Rapid Transit), streetcars, and light rail into the city by 2020.

Larks, a recommendation... next time someone mentions a music artist you haven't heard of, either look them up on Google/Wikipedia/Youtube or keep your mouth shut. If you admit to everyone that you don't know who we're talking about by asking "who's that?", you bring the resulting laughter and embarrassment upon yourself.

Bon Jovi is a band from the latter 80's and 90's. They had a few hits, their most notable and the one in reference in this case being "Livin' on a Prayer". Surely you've heard the song before even if you don't recognize the band name.

Many of you are probably a tad young to have experienced such, but it's also a very popular song in bars.

My friend got free tickets to see Bon Jovi last summer at Soldier Field. It's a terrible place for concerts, but he invited me and you just don't turn down free tickets. :P

And I do like Bon Jovi, of course. So I was pretty happy with the whole thing.

I'm waiting for post #80085 because I am incredibly immature for my age.

Duke87, living in a city definitely changes the conversation about trains. As much as I hate riding them, trying to drive into Tokyo when we were living in the 'burbs would have been an absolute, expensive nightmare (highway tolls, gas, parking, etc). That's why I aim to be in the countryside (unless I get a chance to live in Osaka again).

Also, I thought Larks was joking and was prepared to laugh with him.
