Possibly eventually. I have a lot of games I already own that I want to play before any new purchases, though.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I was in the Dev Beta, really liked it. I didn't feel that it was a city building game, more of a game with city building in it.

But because of that its a lot different to SC4, but in a good way. I think it needed a change, and I am happy with the direction they wen't in.

It won't hold me forever, but neither did SC4.

So yes, I will be picking it up on Friday.

I won't be playing the new one. I have been playing SC4 a bit though.

I feel like as an adult my ability to accept new games which are different from old games is generally lacking. Part of me just can't accept that the world is different in 2013 than it was in 1993. I remain a sucker for the classics, but new stuff is generally meh unless it is very true to its roots and still plays like its predecessors did 10-20 years ago.

I've never been a real serious gamer, so I really like the games from a simpler time.  If it's fun, I'm okay with it.  I have so little time for games these days anyways that it's hard to get into new stuff.  The fact that I've become fairly prolific with my writing (none of it published except for here) gives me a different way to spend my free time.  That is, when I'm not watching NFL Films stuff or posting here.  Still, I do fire up ye olde SC4 from time to time.

I could not agree with this more. This morning I realised the cds I took to play in the car on the way to work were both from the mid-90s...... *sigh*

I won't be playing SC2013 because I don't like some of the aspects, but that's not a discussion for here.

If I had to guess, I would say that less than 15% of the albums I own came out after 2000. Lots of 60's, 70's and 90's in my collection. I recall reading that the music you predominately listen to between the ages of 18 and 22 is the music you will predominately listen to for the remainder of your life. I may have the ages off by a bit but I'm in the ballpark. I don't necessarily agree with this. When I was at that age I ended up listening to quite a bit of electronic music. Mostly industrial and trance. While I still moderately enjoy industrial, trance makes me want to puke. I still listen to all that grunge and hard rock from the nineties though. I also found myself expanding my music library after that age but mostly with older stuff.

I found about half of the albums I'm buying at the moment are old ones which I didn't get into first time round. It's like I'm filling out sections of music that I somehow did not hear during my teen years.

My connection to pop culture in general dropped off after high school. I stopped watching TV (because I no longer had regular access to one), and I stopped listening to the radio (because I wasn't in a car very often anymore). I also at this point for the first time in my life had my own computer that I did not have to compete with anyone else for the use of... so you can guess what filled the void left by those other two things leaving. :P

Of course, since I've graduated from college, my job has also cut into free time. Maybe college takes 40 hours a week of work for some people, but for me it most certainly did not!

I agree with Larks, pop culture these days is pathetic.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I praise the lord every day to be so far removed from American TV and radio and politics because when I'm there, everything but the NFL and MLB makes me want to puke.

Concerning my music, I probably have half my music player full of Led Zeppelin, then it's a mishmash of years and styles, all generally comfortably within rock music.  There's a little hip hop and pop thrown in for variety, but *just* a little.

Has anyone looked the NHL realignment plan? It's irking me. You can read about it here.

There is nothing wrong with the current division arrangement. But the current playoff setup is ridiculous. Half the entire league should not be in the playoffs. It should be the top four teams from each conference at most. And they're not changing that, so this fixes nothing.

The fact that the two new conferences will be uneven also makes no sense. MLB has the problem of each league having slightly different rules, so having constant interleague play materially changes the game - but the NHL has no such issue so they have no excuse for not having two 15 team conferences.

I honestly don't understand the desire to set it up in that way, just shuffling some teams around (Detroit goes east, Winnipeg goes west) would solve the problem.

But hey, what do I know. I'm "just" a fan...

It's been difficult for me to give any kind of a crap about the NHL again after their second work stoppage in ten years.  They make me want to roll my eyes and watch spring training games instead.

That being said, nothing says 'Atlantic' to me quite like Columbus, OH.  And what a great idea to separate rivals like the Blackhawks (who suck anyways) and the always-awesome Red Wings (I may be biased), or whoever else.

Columbus, Atlantic?  Boston, Central?  God, the geography baffles me.

I say move Winnipeg to Northwest while moving Minnesota to Central. Then put Nashville in the Southeast.

What I don't understand is having the 2 larger divisions both in the east. Why not put one in the west and one in the east instead?

The whole thing baffles me. The 2 conference, 3 divisions per conference, works well IMO.

When I hear "Oilers", my first thought is still the Houston Oilers, despite the fact that they haven's existed in 15 years.

I get that they also drill for oil in Alberta, but still, mentally the name "Oilers" seems more apropos to Texas than to anywhere else you'd put a sports team.
