Most of what I watch is on our public broadcaster, the ABC (not to be confused with ABC). There's usually something good on most nights.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

TV has become a wasteland, Hollywood is so out of touch with entertainment.

8852

Spot on. Some of the newer movies I have seen just keep getting worse and worse as time goes on. I think the 2010's is going to be another decade of terrible movies (or can we even call them movies anymore?) especially with movies like the 3 Stooges (there's a certain way to bring a 30's style up to modern times and this movie failed to attempt this), Battleship (really? make a movie based on a board game and add aliens was the best they could come up with?) and i'm sure the new TMNT is going to be another movie to tarnish the series (I think Michel Bay did enough damage with Transformers).

The dumbing down of entertainment merely follows the dumbing down of society.

That, and Hollywood is more about the money and less about the art than it used to be.

Doesn't help either that special effects aren't cheap and making a good fancy movie in the modern day requires a lot of investment that it needs to be a big hit in order to get a good return on.

Integral Calculus is hard. I was supposed to start work on the Substitution Rule homework due Tuesday but instead I read and wrote about SimCity.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

Heh, yeah, sounds like me in college. Homework due Tuesday was no way ever getting done before Monday night!

I've found that I actually often get things done faster if you don't give me a deadline. A due date for homework just ended up being excuse to procrastinate until the last minute. No hard deadline on something important, meanwhile, means I do it as soon as I get a chance. It's like I interpret the deadline to mean "I don't have to have it done until then" rather than "I have to have it done before then".

You know, I missed the conclusion of the last 10K thread. Only appropriate I help wrap up this one. Back on topic, I've decided to stop procrastinating....starting tomorrow.

...and someone else changes their name. I really wish that members hadn't been given the ability to do that.

Seriously, it causes confusion when people's names change. If I hadn't recognized your avatar, I wouldn't have known who you were or known that I'd seen you before!

I changed my avatar from the Space Needle to the Washington Mutual Tower. Then I changed my displayed name from Ilikeseattle to OcramSeattle. Then I changed the picture to a modified picture meant to display the Mezaton Mutual tower.

I've changed my picture quite a few times, certainly too many to list them all, but I do have a folder on my computer with copies of most of them.

Sorting by date, they have been:

  1. Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb
  2. Jojo from Horton Hears a Who
  3. Scamper from Igor
  4. Xandir from Drawn Together
  5. Changed Daily from The Secret Show
  6. Aerrow from Sky Knights
  7. Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
  8. a drawing of a paramecium
  9. a fox
  10. the same picture of a fox except wearing a Santa hat
  11. Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist (also wearing a Santa hat)
  12. chibi Zexion from Kingdom Hearts
  13. a different picture of Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
  14. Lord Vetinari from Discworld
  15. a picture of a cat wearing a watermelon helmet
  16. Australia from Scandinavia and the World
  17. Admiral Nelson
  18. Axel from Kingdom Hearts
  19. Marluxia from Kingdom Hearts
  20. Vexen from Kingdom Hearts
  21. a different picture of Vexen from Kingdom Hearts
  22. Xion from Kingdom Hearts
  23. Demyx from Kingdom Hearts
  24. another picture of Zexion from Kingdom Hearts
  25. Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII
  26. an original picture of Alexis Marfan from an abandoned CJ
  27. Demyx in the iPod ad style
  28. Axel in the iPod ad style
  29. Marik from Yu-Gi-Oh
  30. Benedict Arnold
  31. Britain
  32. the German Eurovision logo
  33. Xigbar from Kingdom Hearts
  34. Neko Wikipe-tan
  35. Shindo Shuichi from Gravitation
  36. Edd from Ed, Edd, and Eddy
  37. Roxas from Kingdom Hearts
  38. Sora from Kingdom Hearts
  39. a different picture of Sora from Kingdom Hearts
  40. an original (bad) drawing of a face
  41. another picture of Sora from Kingdom Hearts
  42. the ABC logo
  43. Terra from Kingdom Hearts
  44. Sora from Digimon
  45. Lyle Lanley from The Simpsons
  46. Sora from Digimon with the "It Gets Better" logo
  47. Vexen punching Axel
  48. Bo from Sugar Bits
  49. Takuto Tsunashi from Star Driver
  50. Octavia from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
  51. and the current one, a humanised version of Vinyl Scratch from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

A couple might be ones I used elsewhere, but most of them definitely were used here.

Wow o.O I only changed mine a few times :P

You've also only been here a third of the time I have.

Of course, when I was newer here, I changed my avatar pretty often. By my 1st anniversary I was already up to 28 (that's an average of a new avatar every 13 days). On the date you registered a bit over three years ago, I was on my 63rd avatar.

If I change avatars at about the same average rate I have since becoming a member, by the time I've been here as long as Duke has now I'll have used over 100 avatars.

It is starting to get to the point where I'll stick with the same one for a while though.

And, of course, my estimated time to reach 10,000 posts myself at my overall post rate is late December 2014.

I was just going to add capitalization to my name originally, but I thought 'ah what the hell' and made it match my name everywhere else on the web.

Don't go searching for it.

Please.

I've given myself the task of working through my physics textbook using only a pen, paper, and a slide rule. I've made my way through one chapter.

I'm really starting to like the slide rule, it's a great piece of equipment.

I can't remember how to do any of the math on the 9th graders' midterm exam here, although I do know we were taught how to do it in high school. I'm a lot better at social studies and languages, not that they're any easier for me to learn, I just like studying them more.

For calculating things I usually use Excel. Whether on my computer at home or my computer at work, I almost always have something open in it... so, grab an empty cell and stat typing equations. Easy!

I am dependent on calculators except when it comes to basic math. I normally use calculators for decimals, fractions, quadratic equations and squares/square roots (one of the things I HATE dealing with)...
