Even though it's past Thanksgiving, my brain is still not accepting that it's Christmas season. Might be because having moved out, I'm not getting feedback from my family about it, and there are no decorations going up in my apartment. And the people I'm staying with this week are Jewish so no decorations here, either. Also, it's like 70 degrees here in Georgia - not Christmas season weather!

Though, I also think it's in large part because I've crossed over into the era of my life where I spend just as much if not more on gifts for others than others spend on gifts for me, and I have a job and steady income so I can buy nice stuff for myself whenever... so Christmas just doesn't feel like something worth getting excited about anymore, and instead starts to feel like a source of stress and a cause for needing to do extra work. So rather than "Yay! Christmas is coming!", I'm kinda like "Oh damn, Christmas is coming. Now I gotta get up off my ass and go buy gifts for people. And I have to put up with the annoying music. And with people being merry while I don't feel cause for it. Ugh."

There was Christmas stuff up all over here last week, but there's also no Thanksgiving, so I'm totally willing to overlook that. I love Christmas season even with all the terrible drawbacks like preparation and spending money I don't have. It's just fun.

Well, are there any arguments against having a show teach children Chinese?

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Dora the Explorer was one of the first to teach Spanish so why not have others for other languages. Chinese language speakers are more common than Romance language speakers (yes, Chinese is a classification of languages, like the Romance languages, not an individual language like English or a language with different dialects, like Spanish).

Furthermore, it is important to realize that the loan sharks that are the majority holders of American debt, the majority holders of most major businesses, the premier developing superpower, and the possible leaders of the world (especially if the USA is taken as collateral and the new head of state becomes Chairman Bo-Bo, according to a couple of news sources (AKA Daily Show, Onion, and Colbert Report)) are mostly the government of the People's Republic of China. Therefore, when China takes over the world, it would be useful to speak their language, no?

Ni-hao Kai-Lan is just odd. Why do we have shows on TV teaching kids Chinese?

Why to prepare kids for the Chinese invasion of course. :P

Apparently a comedy show, a parody newspaper, and a parody news show are legitimate news sources now.

Well, I suppose if Fox can call itself news... :P

Fox News isn't all that bad. I think it's disingenuous to focus on Fox News as though no one else sensationalizes every story they get their hands on. Until people stop paying attention to that sort of thing, they are going to continue to get viewers.

Also, it's interesting how everyone thinks China is going to take over the world, as if they are perfect and prepared and have no problems of their own.

Also, I think it's a good idea for people to learn a foreign language. Studies have shown that people who study foreign languages test higher in other subjects, and it's a good way to broaden your horizons. The kids shows are annoying, but whatever. It's good that kids get some exposure that there are other people out there with other ways of doing things. You know what? It's good for the parents, too.

When will people learn that there is news and then there are opinion shows, just cause they air both dose not mean they aren't a news channel.

Then that means MSNBC and CNN are not news either.

There isn't enough good news to report on 24 hours a day. So inevitably we get repetitiveness and junk news mixed in there.

This problem is common to all three major American cable news networks but FOX often gets singled out for political reasons. It's right-slanted, people who are left wing like to complain about it... MSNBC is just as if not more left slanted than FOX is right, but for whatever reason right wingers don't use it as a punching bag so much. Probably in part because its ratings are so low that they don't need to.

Wait... wait... the US has a left? :P

And I can't watch that video, The Daily Show blocks Australia. But the explanation you gave suggests a false dichotomy.

I'm learning Spanish. Some words seem to mean a whole lot of things. http://translate.google.com/#auto|en|quedar but I guess that's true in English as well.

wait, did someone mention the Onion as a news source? lawl

Well, it is actually published on paper and available in new stands.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Glen Beck is not news, he talks about a tiny bit of current events, then ... "entertains" you for the rest of the show.

Furthermore, all the translations of quedar are synonyms to a certain extent. Try plugging in certain ambiguous English words and you will get many Spanish synonyms. Even remain has 7 translations so yeah.

OK here are the two "futures"

1. Samantha Bee IV reports that the debt ceiling is not raised and America declares bankruptcy. Corporations take over and turn it into a "fully privatized Capitalist Utopia." The air "stings a little but the free market will take care of that" with the background being smokestacks and cooling towers, with cloud/smog cover and thunderstorms with a red tint.

2. Aasif Mandvi junior junior junior reports that the debt ceiling is raised and taxes are increased but China tries to collect on the debt and the USA loses a nuclear war against China and now they live under the rule of (Chinese) Chairman Bo-Bo. The background is a free viewscreen given out to everyone while the real background looks the same as the Capitalist background, only radioactive blue.
