I didn't find grade 8 to grade 9 to be all that huge a transition schoolwise... but a lot of that may just be that it got overshadowed. I mean, yeah, I was nervous about starting high school. But then a week later, 9/11 happened, and all of a sudden there were other things to worry about.

If with Duke on this one, Senior year is more laid back.

Finished all exams. Now to just wait and see how well I did in my courses.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Minecon is a convention about Minecraft in Las Vegas. The first day coincides with the first full (non beta) release.

Unless they're late, which is a fair proportion of the time.

Aw, I missed the school conversation and how you're talking about Minecraft? Darn. Well, I'm just gonna tell you about my experience anyways. High school doesn't seem as tough to me now as it did at the time, what with hindsight being 20/20 and all. I did fit in a lot better in college though, and I do remember junior high school as being a complete waste of time while being surrounded by stupid, hormonal, rage monkeys.

I don't know much of anything about Minecraft other than it has a crazy following.

Believe it or not, SC4 is the newest PC game I own. Everything else is either older or console-based.

Why? Well, PC gaming has gone in a direction I do not appreciate. Every PC game comes chained with DRM now, and anything with DRM is banned from my computer. And there hasn't been anything PC exclusive in the past eight years that's really piqued my interest.

Besides, I freak out when I see "10 GB hard drive space" in the system requirements. Even though I know I handily have that available, it still seems like a lot. I haven't really gotten used to the fact that hard drive sizes are measured in terabytes now. I remember when they were measured in megabytes. Hell, I remember working with a computer that didn't have a hard drive!

I find Minecraft vaguely entertaining but I prefer SimCity 4, Sims 2, Cities XL, and Anno 2070.

This is off topic, but: This morning I was listening to a radio station and a girl about my age called in. The host of the show asked her why we celebrate Thanksgiving and who originally started it. To this she responded with a long pause, and her answer, "The pioneers." Granted, she was homeschooled, but this still shows America's lack of education.

That's pretty said that the homeschooling parents can't teach their kids a proper education. :noway:

Well Homeschooling is all about teaching kids what the parents want them to lean, as opposed to schools teaching what the goverment and teachers want them to.

Well in Aus at least, homeschooling still has a government curiculum/guidlines for kids doing it. So really it's not that much different from government schools in terms of what you're (meant to be) learning :P

There is a valid argument for parents having the right to educate their kids as they see fit.

But I don't like homeschooling because it removes the social aspects of school from the equation and makes it difficult for kids to make friends.

Homeschooling is illegal in the Netherlands. Considering all the education alternatives in the Netherlands, I think it's a valid argument.

Ugh, homeschooling. I used to know someone who home-schooled their kids. She and her family moved right next-door to me. And about 2 years after they moved in, she sent them to public schools. But the oldest one dropped out, and they abandoned their house and moved to Texas. However, they left the pipes on and turned the heat off. So in the winter, the water froze and the pipes "exploded". The ceiling collapsed and mold started to grow. I believe the house is now condemned.

Some home schooled student committed suicide at my sister's university. Couldn't handle the social stress apparently... :|

I have a problem with that, the goverment should not tell people where they can and can not school their kids.

Still, the origin of Thanksgiving should be common knowledge. It's a simple thing to know; even 4-year-olds do.
