Cockatoo that is actually "based" on a RL building...

Nathan: You are again not paying attention to the details, it seems that you keep changing the dimensions almost randomly. In the RL building the facade is taller than the roof. The angles in the roof and the bulge seems to be over exaggerated now. The facade at the back also is taller than the roof this one has like a step shape in the middle that makes it a little bit more interesting, I am not doing this building I haven't even go back to look at the RL building images, and I still remember all this details in fact I think there is also a parapet on the sides of the roof. I think the bulge is now too tall and still doesn't look to be centered properly....it seems that you tried to centered using the perspective view or something...You said you got stuff more important to do than modeling at the moment well I will said do the stuff that matters and leave your model for later until you got time to really sit down and do things carefully. Good luck with your exams.

Ah, sorry, I didn't realise. After looking back a few pages, I found the RL picture. Anyway, I still stand by the other two points - the most important thing is that your textures are correctly mapped. Doing this alone will massively improve the appearance of the BAT.

Today I threw Mecca Billiards Into the trash and started the FAX Transit Center, A Shelter. There are actually two more shelthers in the complex but they were blocked by buses in street view and therefore I couldn't see the features of those.

This one looks way better but really stop trying to do real-life renditions but do fictional buildings or "based-on real life" buildings. Aside from the misaligned roof, it looks its release-ready after texturing. Remove the middle floor since lotting will do this better.

Zahrul3, I will have to disagree with you about making fictional buildings as a good advice...it is easier to learn when you are based in something that is already there...and most of the people with more experience around here have suggested Nathan not to do so for the same reason. I think you had a bad experience yourself when you were modeling something completely out of your imagination ( I am talking a bout the first BAT you were working in that you eventually had to throw away), and even in your thread people have suggested you to base your creations in RL creations. I know that when you are making something completely out of your imagination makes it easier to justify anything that you couldn't solve in the model by saying this is how I planed it, but this doesn't help in the learning curve and often looks bad/weird..

    harishna: My thoughts exactly.

zahrul3: Please take everyone else's advice into consideration before you completely toss it out. You essentially went against everything we have been telling Nathan since he started BATing.  If you want to see him try to make things based from his imagination, look at the beginning of this thread. Better yet, look at Nathan's first thread. That's right, there is another one that he abandoned for no good reason.

I looked at the other bus stops in the FAX Transit center and I decided that I am going to BAT all three and release them as a pack.

Link to Shelter B  (I hate the fact that it is blocked by busses but it is the same as the "A" shelter)

    Link To shelter H:

Therefore, I am going to call this "FAX Transit Center Pack". I am going to do modeled tomorrow after school(I get out at 12:30 due to finals)

Update to my project. I tried to make the roof blue but for some reason unlike the benchs and trashbins it would not work.

That's really not bad at all. The blue colour looks a little bit too violet for my liking but otherwise well done.

Why there's a spotlight shining up very bright in the day pic? Other that it looks quite okay, the roof is still not centered and you need plants to fill the planters (I think you can do this with props from Lot Editor, something you should be able to do well from your previous experiences with lotting. With the spotlights fixed personally I think its release ready right after you fix these problems. I agree with mntoes that the blue looks too bright and violet but it can be easily fixed.

I fixed the spotlight thing by removing it(I'll add it in LE). Also, things like benchs, lightpoles and trashcans I will also add in-game. I will work on Shelter B Sunday(I'm busy all day tomorrow)

Nathan again you are planning to release something in a rush. I believe this project of yours looks more promising and I feel you have improve, but I wouldn't say this looks ready to be released. For example in shelter A the supporting columns seem to converge to different sections of the roof, the ones on the right are outside the roof, while the ones on the left side seem to be under the roof, I don't know if this is because the angle for the columns is different or/and the roof is not properly centered. Also the benches from shelter A are incomplete. I would like to see a RL picture of shelter H...

sorry I missed the link ok well after looking a the picture you missing some details. First the front bus stoops here your columns are too thick and they are missing some details like the base structure. You can also with the roof to make it look more real, the real one is not just an oval it has some indentations and it has like a parapet (I don't know if I am using the right terms but I hope you understand what I am talking about). For the bus stop at the back, the whole thing is too thin, if you look there are 2 big benches inside and the roof over hangs almost a meter out from the supporting structure. This supporting structure is more complex than a simple slab...ah and you can see that the bus numbers are hanging perpendicularly from the roof.

I've said it before in your other thread and I'll say it again here - youthful exuberance is all well and good, but it can't replace good, honest, complete, finished, and thorough work.

This incessant desire to rush Rush RUSH through and get stuff on the STEX can be mistakenly seen or misconstrued as nothing more than a desire for high-fives, asspats, and "good jobs" from downloaders, and not a solid, firm desire to hone/craft something to its fullest potential. If you're here for laurels and triumphs, you're here for the wrong reason; those are the icing on the cake, the result of that "good, honest, complete, finished, and thorough work" I mentioned above.

It's been well over a year of this back-and-forth with you, nathan. Due respect, but are you going to sit down and really learn something from what others are telling you, or are we going to continue to watch you flailing about? Not to be harsh, but that was what happened in your first thread; do you really want to go down that road again with this one?

well i don't know how the look lotted, especially shelter H which isn't even textured at that stage. Anyways, BAT something you know a lot of, instead of going randomly through Google Street View. It would be okay if it was simple like a bus stop anyway. What i said in my previous post was, shelter A looks ready for release(once you fix the problems)and i never thought of shelter H. The roof is still misaligned. If you rounded up the dimensions say, misalignments wouldn't happen.

So today I decided to take a brake from bus shelters and doing my other project instead. Here it is, I made it with splines AND YES I took dimensions in Google earth

The footprint and the general shape look OK to me, but you should take a closer look at the proportions of each element, i.e. the size of one component compared to another. For example, on your BAT the wall is about 2.5 times as wide as the window, whereas on the real building the wall appears to be roughly 4 times as wide as the window. Other aspects to check include the height of the window vs. wall height and the vertical position of the window.

I worked on my bus stops last night and this morning and here is the final version. I decided to model the trashcans and benchs because they are part of the building.
    batproject6.jpg
and btw I am giving up on my other project because the file got corrupt and therefore I can't open it.

shelter A is starting to look much much better, but I think the textures still need some more work and you may even consider adding some plants.... shelter H still need some modelling work, check the dimensions and look at the details..

Yes, please refine the textures. It's really close to being finished, and we as a whole would like to help you see this through to it's end, hopefully as a well done product.

Shelter A is good already, but you still need to work on the fine details, texturing and the lights of Shelter H. I'd rate them 8/10 at this current state. Happy Holidays!
