I'm not so sure about the new roof texture...seems a bit too blue. But the rest looks good.

I'm assuming this is gonna be W2W?

Hmmm...I'll fix that in a little bit.

Yes, I will make it W2W.

Your model is looking good, I think you need more work on the roof. Keep it up. :thumb:

Well, another update. I fixed a bunch of textures, and also noticed that the back door is a sliding door(Similar to a barn door), so I modeled that.

Edit: The new building looks rather nice, can't wait to see some updates on it.

I will work on the rest of the roof junk this afternoon and provide a pic. I tried to look on google street and find out what the roof texture should look like, but it won't show. In the meantime I will try to figure it out.

Oh yeah, in the meantime, got dimensions for my new project(Since it's simmurtical, I only got 1 side). I will estimate the height later.

    batguide.jpg

1st Progress Pic(What I will do with this project is model 1/4th of it, and then clone it 3 times.)I will work on it tomorrow.

    bat1u.jpg

EDIT:Because I may be busy tomorrow, i may not be online at all. Update pic will be on Tuesday.

You getting there Nathan but roof textures still need some tweaking e you could also reduce the roof slope, and I don't entirely like the wall texture the grimy edge looks weird at the back

I think you will need a bigger bitmap for the roof. The texture isn't bad in itself, but it's pretty obvious that it repeats several times. Your model looks really fine otherwise, a great improvement over your first attempt! That's why it would be all the more disappointing to see it let down by a repetitive roof texture. I bet you can fix that, though. Did you figure out UVW mapping yet?

Anyway, you're really getting there. Keep it up!

Okay, well I fixed the things you two mentioned. I think the wall texture problem was that the wall was misaligned. I fixed it.In addition, the reason why the roof appears a little gray is because I desaturated it in Picture Manager.

Is this the same texture? it looks too "chameleonic" or as army camouflage, just take you time it is almost the last thing you need to get this one right, if this texture doesn't work experiments with others and make sure that it fit nicely with the roof (UVW maps are of great help here).

Well, i looked at Todd's texture untiling tutorial and so here is what I got with a new texture. I am including a shot of the UVW Map coordinates(Which are the same for the roof and bulge, so that I can get detailed help on how to fix this.

Well, I am not sure if this is the correct texture to use, but here is what I have. Now before a bunch of you start screaming about the tiling, the texture is not tiling(Because I did a lot of tweaking with GIMP).

Much better!! and I don't see any tiling, the only thing I am not sure is if it is the right kind of texture for this building

Yep, you seem to have nailed the "endless texture" look. :) One more thing that will be useful for all your future creations, congratulations!

However, I'd agree that the texture might not be the most appropriate choice. I think tar paper or corrugated metal might be better suited for this particular BAT.

After looking at it in Google maps.. no wonder you are having a hard time with the roof texture... the RL texture would be like a beacon in game. 9.gif

This latest roof .. well.. emm.... honestly.. uug! :D I like the roof in post 289 better... maybe just a little more grey..less pink?

You've definitely come along way! Be proud.. but humble...44.gif

Harishna and T Wrecks said that the post 289 texture was not the correct one, so I followed their instructions.

This new texture really obscures the roof junk.

On the real one the roof slope isn't as steep, and the texture looks more like concrete, but it's really hard to tell from a picture.

Yeah, I will change the texture to a tar-paper texture(Which was requested by T Wrecks), and I reduced the slope of the roof. Update will come tomorrow.

Basically, I think this kind of texture works for the building. It's definitely better than those shingles or the over-contrasted metal sheets you tried before.

    Two slight drawbacks are that...

    a) on the raised roof section, a darker stripe seems to appear two times and gives away a texture repetition.

    b) the roof texture, the walls of the raised section and the roof junk now all share very similar colour and brightness values, which makes the roof look a bit undefined.

I think it should be possible to overcome these little shortcomings by slight texture tweaks. The first one would consist in making the texture longer so it won't repeat on the raised section, and the second one would be to make the roof texture a bit darker overall. (You could also try adding a brownish colour hue, for example.)

Have you taken a look at gascooker's tutorial on fake raytracing yet? If not, I recommend doing so, because I think he shows a very effective trick here: You can add a brightness gradient to a texture so that it's brighter on one end and darker on the other hand. This usually works quite well on sloped roofs. It accentuates the slope, and in this case it would also help to emphasise the structure of the roof because the upper roof would stand out more clearly.

I think the new roof looks the best of all the textures so far. I agree with T Wrecks that you should consider trying raytracing to help clearly define the edges, but other than that I can't think of anything...it looks like there are a few roof vents on the raised section (from what I see in the aerial view) but I'm not an HVAC expert.
