Ford Field has an issue.  I need to be able to get it into 3ds.  For some reason, everything runs better in 3ds than gmax.  There was a member that gave some helpful advice, unfortunately, the model imported into 3ds somewhat mutilated.  Otherwise, if it cant be done, I'll build Ford Field piece by piece.  I'm having that same issue with the Dime Building, that is why that is on hold too.  But Hudsons I'm still working on, because that is currently in 3ds.  Now, my computer is in for service, but I'll be getting it back soon.  When I get that installed check this thread often for updates.

Great to see you stop in bd.  Yeah, it kind of sad the BSP has gotten overrun by busy summers.  I can say mine has been quite filled.  But I'm looking forward to continuing on my models.  Buildings these is also part of another project I'm working which is urbanmichigan.com.  The goal is to create a virtual city of downtown Detroit.  Simtropolis and the BSP is the way to get there.

If anyone has succefully imported a Gmax model into 3ds, can someone please do it for me.  I've tried and failed so many times!

Both stadiums are undergoing renovations that will change their appearance.  When those renovations are done, I'm sure someone will take those on.

It would be great to see a football stadium in the game.  Myself I just unveiled my plans to bring Ralph Wilson Stadium (Bills) into the game, we have your Ford Field, and I guess there are some other prospects being thrown around.  So it looks like we may have several in not too long...

Keep up the good work.  Yes, I'm back now as well (although I never really left)...

Happy BATing from across Lake Erie!

I know the thread is long, and alot of the pictures are not working, but you realy should read the whole thread.  You'll find the answer to your questions, and you'll learn some detroit development news too.

I've done a little bit more work on the Free press building (This is kefka btw) since I last mentioned it, but not enough to upload a picture for.  Right now most of the back is done, but the roof and main entrance are not.  I still need to texture everything, but I'll do that after I reorganize my textures folder.

Update, started texturing!  I also finished modeling for the back.  I started with a completely grey texture (like the real thing), but it looked realy bad, so I added some brown.  I started out more brown than it curently is, but some of the objects still have the old more brown texture.  I'm happy with the texture since I made it from scratch.  I'll still be tweaking it as I go along.

    Hey budweiser:

Ever get a chance to look at Burton Tower I sent you I can't remember how long ago? lol!! I totally forgot about it but I think you were gonna help me with the nightlighting. Any chance you could still help me? I could release if it had some nice spotlights running up the walls. 2.gif

What's 3ds? It's not the paid version of gmax is it? Is it a lot easier to use than gmax? I have to admit, gmax is a pain in the butt. Hell, if there was access to a better program on campus, I'd sit in the fishbowl and bat instead of messing with gmax.

I enjoy seeing the progress made on Detroit landmarks! If I can figure out how to make my bridge model transit-enabled (and therefore effective), I may just have to check in with you all in the BSP and see if you would be interested in the Ambassador Bridge? I'm currently about 70% done with the model...It still needs some work on scaling it to its real-life proportions, but it's alright so far.

I was also wondering if after you BAT'd a few existing Detroit buildings if anyone would be interested in taking on some of the unbuilt buildings from the depression era?

Example: The original plan for Book Tower
    Book
Just mere human curiousity =) Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing Detroit represented on the STEX!44.gif

I think that we're having hard enough of a time getting the currently built buildings BATed 1.gif

As far as I know it's impossible to make new functional bridges, but eyecandy lots are possible. It's also possible to make the kind of bridge that only has those undertrusses, and then make another lot that hands ontop of it that has the custom bridge part. Underworld did that in his City Journal/BAT. You'll have to manual find his threads though, since I think there's number(s) at the end of his name.

I've done a little work on the Free Press Building, you can see it in my BAT thread (there should be a link in my signature).

^ Building the ambassador bridge would be hard as hell, though it would be cool to have it. My 3ds isn't working for some reason. I've been working on Ford Field in Gmax unfortunately.

Here's my (incomplete) model of the Ambassador Bridge. As you can see, it's still untextured and still has a few more parts to be added, but the overall look is there. The problem is still trying to find a way to get a bridge functional, or something akin to it.
@Jasoncw: I'm going to get around to checking out Underworld's CJ when the model is around 90% complete, and when I have decent textures for it.

    ::bump::

I rescaled the Free Press building. In real life it is 60 meters wide (I think) which fits well on 4 tiles. I think I had it at 5 or 6 tiles before. This also means that there is less roof area, so now it isn't so intimidating (I was having trouble with the big roof surface and roof junk).

Also, city election votes are being tallied, and unfortunatly, the current mayor (Kwame Kilpatrick) is going to win. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwame_Kilpatrick has some info, and links to more information on Kilpatrick. There is less information on Freman Hendrix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freman_Hendrix)

I haven't seen anything on this project in a while and am very glad to see that Detroit is still producing!

The Ambassador Bridge is awesome! Are you planning upon releasing it as a replacement for a draggable bridge or as a ploppable. I hear both can be done. Advance congrats for when you become the first US city project with a bridge of their own!

I'm not yet sure on how I want to finalize the bridge, I'm going to need help getting it in the game and functional no matter how I end up doing it. Right now, I want to concentrate entirely on getting the model right. Speaking of the model, I've tweaked the main span cables so that they're actually round now, and not blocky like they were before. I need to work a bit on reducing the overall polygon count, as well. Thanks for the congrats and the feedback =)

And I cannot believe that Kwame won -.- This makes me feel very depressed-like. Oh well, you never know, he might actually decide to try and be a mayor this time around.21.gif
