oh, that's a cool site, I didn't know about it!  If you're ever taking pictures down there I just need ones from the back of the building.

I think the front of the building is 4 tiles.  It's supposed to be 58 meters tall, and it looks like it's a little more wide than tall.  If that's true, than the tower part is one tile thick.  Anyways, I'll start working on it.

edit: I started and did alot of the front part, but it doesn't look very good.  I'm restarting it using a different meathod.  It's probably going to be more like 65 meters tall and 5 or 6 tiles wide.

edit again:

I accidently added an extra floor to the high part, but I'll fix it later.

an update.  The top is actualy supposed to be smaller than the bottom, not bigger (right now it looks like it's wearing a crown).  It's a good thing I post progress becuase that's when I catch things.  This part of the building would fit snugly on a 1x4 lot.

Well it's good to see you guys talking again. I have been working on some extremely minor BATs that I haven't really done anything with yet, but I would love to workn on the Madden, although I doubt I'd be able to do much with it.
Kefka that looks great!

That is awesome!!! Great work so far.

Yeah, it is nice to see everyone talking again. I know it has been hard to find time with everyone's busy schedules. I've been working on a website for some people, so it's been tough fitting Ford Field and Hudson's buildings into the picture. I keep wanting to work on them, but I must not get distracted!

Kefka, looks great so far.  I'm glad you not only decided to help out creating a Detroit landmark, but you basically revived this thread!  Also, I took a bunch of pictures over the weekend, so PM me if you need anything.  I didn't get as many as I would have liked of the back because of some crackhead (literally) harassing us, not for $$, but for crack.  It was the only time I felt even close to be threatened in the city.

I passed through Flint the other week and took a few photos shown below. Having these buildings would be really cool:

Northbank Center

Mott Foundation Building (on the right)

Do not do the Genesee Towers builidng on the left. It's ugly. I heard it may get torn down due to structural problems.

LOL, structural problems, gee I wonder why 21.gif

cool buildings.  that pedestrian bridge blends in much better with its surroundings than other pedestrian bridges I've seen.

I looked at the urban michigan site, but shouldn't something be done with the bsp site first, assuming urban michigan is yours?  I'm looking fowards to seeing it anyways.

UrbanMichigan (despite what is says on the contruction page) is a 3 year project. Don't worry about the BSP site not getting done, it's actually going to operate under urbanmichigan, but as a seperate entity. The plan is to build the BSP site first, and then eventually urbanmichigan, and hopefully it will spark more interest in not only creating buildings for SC4, but creating virtual cities and such, who knows. The reason the BSP site hit a standstill for awhile was because I wasn't getting pictures of the building renderings. Many were erased off of this thread before I could recover them. A new site structure was built different from what you see on the barry sanders project site now, and I plan to still use that design. However, I know way more about web design than I did a year ago, so I might end up changing a few things to enhance the site's efficiency and quaility. So stay tuned!

ExiL3,
The Genesee Towers building actually looked really nice at one time. Sadly, the owner does not take care of it, and has let the building fall to ruin. Soon the electrical bills weren't getting paid, and then eventually, all the tenants moved out. It is currently Flint's tallest building. Although personally, I think its current state makes it look like an eyesore, the building does have potential with new glass and a power washing. Hopefully the owner can get his act together.

I know my absence has been long..... but I do have some good news!!!!!!! I just saved a bunch of money on my car insuance by switching to GEICO......  But seriously RLS has taken up way too much of my time lately.  I have some pictures for you to view, here we go..........................................

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//comerica1.JPG align=baseline>
 there is detail like on the real life building  every 4 floors

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//comerica2.JPG align=baseline>
 I think the roof windows turned out well

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//comerica3.JPG align=baseline>

It is set up as a landmark right now and sits on a 5x5 lot.  I will need some help in creating jobs and possibly a custom querry.  Hope you all like it..... it's only taken me well over a year to get it to work.

Wow, very impressive JD. Nice to see you back! I think RLS has gotten a lot of us. I can't wait to get back to working on Hudsons and Ford Field. As for the roof texture, you may want to try something different. The part with the dark squares is fine (but the overall roof is kind of aluminum paneled sort of deal. Maybe I could dig up a texture for you, or perhaps baldy could help you out. Other than that, the rest of the builidng looks great!

looks good, the colors match realy well.  I think it looks a little squashed though.  Depending on how you made it you could add a meter or half a meter to every floor (or maybe even adding floors), and then scale the entire thing to fit on a 4x4.  I think that would make it look slimmer.  MaxisMike told us that they ussualy increase the buildings height by 1/3, so it should realy be 238 meters tall instead of 189.  I think it'll be realy popular on the stex.

The squashness can be fixed by simply scaling the model. The model was built correctly, but the way it is exported into the game, it gets squashed. Before I export my buildings into the game, I scale them to exaggerate their height. If that feature is not available in gmax, you could probably send me the model when I get 3ds installed again. It's a rather painless process.

BTW, here's the BSP site. Yeah, the info is out of date, but the overal design I plan to keep. I'm looking for all the files I used to create that, and going to work on it today

I don't think gmax has the option to only scale in one direction.  I tried but it didn't work.  I wish I had 3dsmax...  I could even render something in different angles!

the website looks realy good! 44.gif

Maybe I misunderstood what you're talking about, but I think you're wrong... If you group your whole building then use the scale tool, you'll be able to choose the scale for each of the 3 axis... Hope this helps...

Absolutely beautiful. Hope you don't mind if I save the above photo onto my server space for the website, the same goes for you to JD. I'm also happy I got a lot of work done on the BSP site today.

I don't think anything can be done to that damn genesee towers building.  I really hate it, but I do have an interesting story (to me) about it.  My friends were making a movie downtown and they talked the security guard into letting them film from the roof of the building.  They had some great human chase scenes shot from the roof.

I like the Mott Foundation building and the Mott Foundation is one of the best things in Flint right now.  They are doing a lot for the cultural district and you should see the work being done on the Flint Institute of Arts.  It's really going to be a nice art institute when it's complete.  They are a client of mine and I just got done taking a tour of the construction site this week.

The downtown is really looking good, especially on saginaw street across from that parking lot in front of the towers.  The building fronts are really cleaning up nicely.  I love Flint but I hate what the city has become.  I wish I was alive and around Flint in the 60s, what a place that must have been.

Those are all major undertakings. I think we already have our hands locked on other projects. But we can keep those in mind.

Made a little slimmer, and taller..... I present Comerica4.0 (in medium render).  I will be rendering it today while I am at work.

For some reason, the render I did didn't add all of the textures, but here is an in game......

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//comerica4.0.ingame.JPG align=baseline>

The roof texture, entrance texture, and 1st floor exterior wall are all missing the texture that has been assigned.

Holy crap!!! jondecker that looks incredible!!! Even if all the textures didn't render, this has come 1,000 miles since the last time I saw it! (Which was quite a while ago, I know I've been MIA.)

This makes me feel really bad for not BATing in so long though hahaha. I actually have one that could be uploaded -- the Burton Bell Tower on Umich campus -- but it still needs nightlights. And Cadillac Tower, the other one I was working on, is still just one wall. Maybe I'll pick it up again tonight. 19.gif

In any case, One Woodward looks magnificent!!

Looks great! 44.gif

I think that adding some color to the building so that it doesn't look so grey is good, but I think that it has too much color.  Maybe you can tone it down a little before you re-render it (If you haven't already)?

I've had that happen to me as well.  What I usually do to avoid it, is when I'm ready to export (or render), I'll switch the view to wireframe, save and quit, and then re-open.  Zoom to see the entire building, then change the view to smooth+highlights, and then render.  It usually works fine after that.  I don't know if it's something to do with the textures not being in memory (because they weren't in the view for a while) or what, but it is pretty irritating.  Especially with a building as far along as yours.

Anyways, I've been gone too long, and it looks like you've been getting some interesting things accomplished here.  Hopefully in a little while I will be returning to my BATing heyday myself!
