Hey, warehouses! My favorite!

It shouldn't be too hard to retexture for SC4. Actually, there are some plugins for Max that simulate dirt, and they do a pretty good job weathering buildings.

Probably way too many, LOL.

Okay Jason, I'll let you work on the retexturing of this, and I'll get you the file.

Ahahaha...

I've not much time to look through this thread, but, has anyone worked on the RenCen or Comerica Tower?

I'm only curious 'cause I was gonna start rendering the Renaissance Centre ala WTC on the STEX: a big ginormous lot.

UltraGIR XL: I can't remember who, but I know someone had taken over work on the Ren Cen. Of course, I've heard nothing about it for at least 2-3 months, so I'm not sure if anything is being done with it now. :\

FRESH BLOOD!!!!!   11.gif

Comerica Tower was almost finished (maybe finished, we don't really know) by someone who has stopped posting.  He lurks occasionally, and I've been sending him private messages, but he's not responding.  I'd like to finish it up.

Maybe he lurks this thead?  (::wink wink, nudge nudge:: if you are)

I've already posted some progress in my own thread, but I've started and almost finished 751 Griswold.  A small little building.

Yeah remember how many times the Comerica Tower model was made over and over again because of certain problems? Wasn't the guy who made it a former NFL player or something, I really don't feel like going back many pages.

Jason, I like that building. Definitely need many more of these in the game.

Oh, and here's what the warehouse looks like in real life:

http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=231922

That actual building has a bit more red to it, but I was afraid it would stand out too much in my architecture project.  Typically with site models, surrounding buildings should be sort of grayish or brown to not detract from the actual building you are designing.  However, I had added extra detail since I was kind of incorporating this structure into my  project.  The faded signage would be a nice bonus if you can, Jason.

"JonDecker" is the Comerica Tower guy.  I'm guessing his name in real life is "Jon Decker" but I don't really know anything about football.  You've said before that he was the NFL guy though.  Jon Decker sounds like a football kind of name.

One thing I think you could do when you do those, is you can make all of the buildings in their normal color.  Then you could render as normal.  Then you could hide everything else in the scene except for your building, render it again, and you could use the alpha map in photoshop to control the saturation and stuff for everything else in the image.  I think that might work.  idk if it would be easier though.

ok good.  yeah, the name of the building and a reference photo is a good thing. 18.gif

Yo.

Here's some late news, but I figured I should drop it here anyway. You can now get John King Books on the STEX:

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=17460

Also, I uploaded Park Apartments & the Park Avenue Building!

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=17472

Good times. Now if I can just get the Cadillac Tower finished...

Hey wolverine

How easy is it to move sketch-up models into 3ds and get them as a BAT?

If it isn't too hard I'll download 3ds, give the Broderick its windows and details and make it a BAT.

Just export the sketchup model to a .3ds file.  Sketchup will stick the textures you have on it in the same directory as your file.  Then import the sketchup file into max.  Your textures should show up on the model (or only in render depending on your settings).

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

So here's the release of my most recent update.  In fact it's the first update since 2.5 years ago.   Man has time passed!  Sorry, it's a link, but it's a big image.  Click ALL SIZES above the image to view it at full resolution, which I reccomend.

West Concourse update

Keep in mind, I'll be alterinng textures.  I've also placed an aerial image in to show you where I am on the project.  Most of you know I've done the curved glass, and front warehouse portion already.

Hey, I thought I'd let you know that BSP Border's Books made it into the print magazine PC Gamer!

Check out the picture Skyfire2275 posted:

EDIT

Note how they were too stupid to install the required dependencies - HKABT's Tai Yuen Phase 3 lacks PEG's overlay textures from the BSC Textures Mega Pack, and the NDEX DuSelle tower lacks the NDEX Base Texture Set. 3.gif

Yeah, and that happened despite their statement to watch out for dependencies. 9.gif

Honestly, the Borders wouldn't even exist if it weren't for JBSimio making the custom queries, T Wrecks modding and lotting it, budweiserdude23 giving me advice for the HVACs, and Jasoncw's BAT School, so I say Congratulations to all of them as well!

And congratulations to the other teams whose buildings showed up in that article!
