Thanks! Ford Field is on my list of things to photograph when I go downtown later this week. Actually, I probably have a few Ford Field pics on my computer somewhere already...I typically take 400-500 pics on a typical trip downtown, sometimes more. I just haven't had time to go through them all. Usually by the time I get them processed and uploaded I have several hundred new pics I need to process and upload. Plus there are all the other photos I take in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, etc. I take so many that there is no way I could ever process and upload them all, but I do post photo tours on UrbanPlanet.org from time to time.

I have most of the build done, I can just clone and rotate the majority of it so one facing is enough. Need to figure the curves and get pics of the base, and add texure. I would post a screenshot but I dont know how to take them :P

GOOD LORD!!  I leave Simtrop. for a few hours and we already got a Detroit Building!!!
    Farminsim, You Rock!!!  Detroit Rocks!!

I can't wait to see more of the Comerica Tower!
I tried to look for more close-up pic of the corners, but I think they are round, unlesss you know for sure.  I hope I can also find some base pics since I see you have left the bottom unfinished.  But the walls and windows look great, and wonderful job on the roof. 24.gif

    FORD FIELD
I did an architectural study on the facility.  I have over 700 picture of that stadium inside and out.  BUT MOST ARE OF THE INSDIE.. IF YOU WANT, I CAN SHOW ANY PICTURE

Awhile ago, the Lions had a 3d model of their stadium.  I wonder if this will help.  I have already asked them about getting the rights to build an online tour of the stadium.  I will contact the Detroit Lions tomorrow to see if they still have possession of that computer 3d model.

Wow, that's looking real nice Farminsim. Boy I wish I could do that. I have no talent w/ the BAT whatsoever. I'm glad there's a Michigander that does. I can't wait to see the final product. Once again, very nice work.

To Wolverine, very good idea. I remember seeing that a while back. Probably would make the rendering easier.........

    Another quick thing:
Is it possible to get ANY 3D model into Gmax?  I mean, I don't know what program Rosetti Architects used to design the stadium and how would we exactly get them into Gmax?

A yooper eh? Good day eh?

The Pontiac Silverdome eh? That's kind of an eyesore. It has been for a while. Lloks like a big bubble in a cornfield. They should knock it down. It was to big when they built it and it never generated the type of business that Pontiac was looking for. It's just a big hunk of concrete and steel, like so many stadiums that were built in the 1970's. Most of those stadiums have been or are being replaced just like the Silverdome. Unfortunately, it is just not that special.....

The Palace of Auburn Hills is still state of the art though...

Hry, here's an idea...this isn't just localized just to Michigan but you see quite a few of them here in the winter...a covered driving range...if you live in a winter wonderland you know what I'm talking about. They're medium sized domes, like a big white bubble tent, that protects you from the elements in the wintertime so you can go whack the little white ball. They go up in September and come down about April/May.

I thought about the Joe Louis Fist, but can anyone model a fist?  I know someone did a middle finger awhile ago.

Cobo and Joe Louis are kind of ugly, no offense.

Michigan Central Station (MCS) is a good idea.  However, it is being converted into the new police headquarters, so maybe it can be modded to serve that purpose.

Top of Troy building should be easy since it is really modern.  In fact, all buildings along Big Beaver Road should not be that hard to build.

btw... I moved right before Compuware was completed... how's she look?  How's the park out front (on Woodward) progressing?  Have any of the other proposed buildings for Campus Martius been started?

The Compuware building is quite nice. It's a welcome addition to downtown.

There a quite a few projects that Archer proposed that still haven't got off the ground. Detroits got a way to go. The problem still is the bureaucracy of Detroit City Council. Those jackasses couldn't collectively dig a hole. They'd be to busy complaining and whining and so forth about this and that.

As a matter of fact The Detroit News recently published on article on what was proposed to be finished for the 2006 Super Bowl and they've barely scraped the surface. The casinos are being held up all sorts of red tape, housing projects, renovations to old buildings etc. Detroit city council has to go, City council is so bad that 2 of its members got into a verbal shouting match of sorts and it was replayed all over the U.S. What kind of image does that portray?

This is a personal account----I work as an HVAC installer and service tech. I had to pull a permit to install 2 steam boilers at an old chocolate factory on Woodward between 7 and 8 mile. BTW the name of the factory was Sydney Bogg, not a huge place. Anyways, I spent 7 hours pulling a permit. Now ask yourself this. If you are any type of construction contracter why in gods name would you want to do work down in Detroit if a it takes you all day to pull a permit? There's way too much red tape......I refuse to do work in Detroit if I have to pull a permit for that reason alone.....I know others feel the same way. I can pull a permit in any suburb in no more than an hour and the construction codes are easier to abide by as well. Believe me, Detroit construction codes are as rigorous as they come and the inspectors (if you can get them there) are all asses on power trips. Contractors charge the city more to do work than the suburbs just because of all this hassle. Its sad but true. I have quite a few stories of the uneffectiveness of city workers I tell ya, 90 percent of them are useless. If Detroit is to become a world class city they need to fix their government from the ground up. Sorry if I've offended any of you out there but its the truth. I'm proud to live here and thats why the condition of Detroit upsets me, not to mention getting bashed by all the out-of-staters who have no idea of the truly great places in the city. (Belle Isle, the theatre ditrict, the stadiums for example) I really hope Detroit CAN show the world here in the next couple of years that we are emerging from the problems that plagued our city for years as we will be a showcase to the world the next several years with the All-Star Game, the Super Bowl, the Ryder Cup, the PGA Championship, and the NCAA Fianl Four.

One more thing...Detroiters (and Michiganders) are all as loyal people as you will ever find. Sure there may be a few bad apples but where are there not? Just look at how this post has grown in the week or so since it started....And we got the best sports fans PERIOD!!!!!

Just my thoughts spilling on an empty canvass......

    Lookin great Farminsim.....lovin it....

Well then Budweiserdude, it's about time you also join the forums at http://www.detroityes.com   A site that is about the rise and fall of Detroit and it's ongoing improvements and criticisms of the city government.

I totally agree on the problems with the city government in Detroit.  Guarantee the city will not be ready for the Superbowl and they may just have to install semi-opaque windows and false lighting in buildings that are not renovated in time when the limelight hits the city.  Although the Casino situation is actually somewhat resolved, there will not be enough stuff ready.  I however, do think city council can be hasty at some things.  For example, they can tear down buildings pretty fast.  Yeah, they are a horrible eyesore, but they do have a lot of character and the large amount of renovations and restorations going on in the city do show that you can successfully rehabiliate and occupy just about any building in the downtown area.  That is my opinion as well.  I don't want to turn this into a lecture, but it is important that people know that Detroit is working to fix its problems, has achieved much success from its new projects, but the goal for a new Detroit still has a ways to go and it's not going to happen by 2006 when the Superbowl rolls into town

Farmersim, the building looks great!  Nice job on those corners, I hope we can find some closeups of the base.1.gif

I won't be working on this till friday when I can get some base shots, maybe someone else can post some detroit buildings being worked on? And thanks for the support, I'm dreading the render I get texture loss. I currently am at a little over 20,000 polygons for each facing, roof, corner combo. When done its gonna be over a 100,000 polys. Could be worse I guess.

The Hudsons building was nice......My mom has tons of stuff from that place, although some if it may be 30-40 yrs. old. I'll see if I can dig up anything on it but I'm not sure how it looks. Hopefully she has some nice pics of it since she used to work downtown.

    budweiserdude23 you are right the
    city is ass back words
i have lived here sence i was born
with is now almost 21 years
    i have seen 3 mayors
    3 - 2 = 1 good mayor that actually cared archer
and for all his efforts on comerica park
    ford field and comp. etc
when he left and we got kilpatrick
all of his efforts when to crap
    this city was once beautiful
and it was become that way to
and now its back to the same old ways
    murder crime and drugs
    thats all
my neighbor shelly is one of the top building and safety people in detroit
    she hates the city workers
and anybody who knows anything would say this city sucks
we have nothing and if we ever were to get something it would go away in a second becuase of the people who live in the city
    the suberbs are all beautiful
and tats because of leadership which detroit has none
we have a ganster and i use that word lightly he's more of a little B****
that couldn't wipe his own assests if he knew how
this city will never bewhat it was becuase how are you supose to take a person seriously when you have a 1 carrot diamond in your ear
you talk like you are un educated and most people that are not black hate you (im not racist either)
i love my city and i wish it was nicer but it won't ever be that way
so its not just the city council
its the hole mind set of who is running everything
we pay for his protection almost a million a year
    and there all his friends
the east side and the northwest side are te only ares that he doesn't forget to help as for my neighrbor hood warren and southfield
we have more gangs drugs and crime along with the police which do nothing tha any where in the city 32.gif

To DetroitInc.----The thing is Kwamee, or however you spell it, is just a pawn. He has no real power. The City Council vetoes any good idea the people come up with. Kwamee is almost useless, at least Archer had the guts to stand up to the council and say this is what is best for city and its people and then act upon it. Kwamee is more like a spokesperson on the state of affairs within the city than he is a mayor. Too bad the suburbanites can't vote for mayor, then s**t would get done. We wouldn't stand for the crap. Any upstanding community (like Canton, Plymouth, West Bloomfield, Novi, Livonia, the list goes on) wouldn't stand for it. They'd replace all those bozos faster than s**t through a goose.

Enough of the political crap though for tonight for me, just venting off my frustrations. I love the fact though that we're all on the same page, and that we all want to see Michigan well represented on the exchange... Hell Yea...We Rule!!!!
