I think they have finaly lost it.

The 1st episode of the season is just awefull.

I guess when you parody an awefull show this is what you get.

I never cared for The Simpsons really. I caught a glimpse of Family Guy once and it was just as awful.

To me "The Simpsons" are head and shoulders above "Family Guy" and it's ilk "American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show".. just much more clever, less "formula", and more spontaneous.. The others are pure formula, highly repetitious, and lacking originality.. they have about 5 situations and every show is just more of the same, different angle. Of course any show as old as the Simpsons is to a degree lucky to be just still running.. it's first episode was in 1987 and they have been in continuous production for almost 500 shows.. pretty spectacular by any standard. On the other hand, I enjoy some other shows better.. can't beat "South Park" for pure hutzpah and I truly admire their constant, often clever assaults on every sacred cow that wanders onto the road.. On the other hand I am more the "King of the Hill" kind of guy.. they take believable situations and show humor in everyday life without feeling like they have to model outrageous situations to be funny. For rapier wit, snappy oneliners and outrageous story lines, I'm taken by "Archer" (though definitely NOT "G rated" and pretty much what I'd call "mentertainment".. not very broad appeal) I've never gotten into the anime so can't speak to those.

"Finally" lost it?  Personally, I think they crossed that bridge 15 years ago.

They lost it 15 years ago? The episodes made 15 years ago are some of the best, at least to my opinion. I don't think they've lost it yet, i actually think the show is better than when it started. The only bad thing is, that the cartoons looks more and more like computeranimations, and that's a shame.

The whole idea of 'adult' cartoon shows makes me realize how little growing up people have done in recent years.  The TV industry has read this very well, and put on juvenile content shows for juvenile minds.  I have seen episodes of the "Simpsons" on several occasions, and my sample can't have been all downers.  I found them to be peurile, vapid, and truly without redeming merit.

Thats a fact, really. I never thought anything of their show, and any of that nonsense they produce. However, it seems less adultish then shows like Family Guy. In Family Guy you can't go 5 minutes without someone bringing up something innapropriate for children.

Things have been going downhill for The Simpsons ever since they peaked in the mid to late nineties. Albeit a slow downhill pace, it has been going in that direction nonetheless. I only caught the last half of one of the new episodes, and I've missed dozens and dozens of them over the past ten years. But I can certainly say that they will not likely ever be as good as they were when they were at their best. Keep in mind, the show's writers have changed multiple times over the years but a certain style is usually adhered to. That style means you may have to watch an episode 2 or 3 times before you even notice all the jokes.

Then again, my recent Simpsons knowledge is a bit lacking.

There comes a time where writes run out of ideas and every joke they can think of has been exausted, it looks like that time has come.

I'm surprised the writers diden't get bored and end it years ago.

What season you reached in USA?

We in Italy are still forced to see episodes of season 1-10 (because they can't buy new episodes...).

All of the shows on the Sunday Night Block except the Cleveland Show have grown old for me. 1992-2000 Simpsons were without a doubt the best.

Actually I think the Simpsons are still pretty much dead on.. after all, we now know things like "those who don't go to college earn 3% less than those that do" and relevance like what microloans are and how to successfully burn ghosts and what happens when you buy things, then return them.. and what about zuckerman's tweets? etc... Still a perfectly decent show after all these years.. perhaps you should be asking "what is an American cartoon?" it's quite unique, really

    So, basically...

The Simpsons episodes today are the {best ever}/{worst ever}, and the ones {n} years ago were the {worst}/{best}. They {are still going strong}/{have lost the plot}, and I {will certainly be watching them for some time to come}/{will never watch them again}. The writing is {excellent}/{terrible}, and the plots are {well-developed}/{puerile}. It's really {gone downhill}/{gotten better} since {season}. It's {much}/{no} {better}/{worse} than {other show}. They should definitely {hire new writers}/{keep their current writers}/{cancel the show}. I'm surprised it's {lasted this long}/{still just as relevant}. I wish it {good luck in the future}/{would end}.

Now I've got that off my chest... 3.gif

If you don't like the show, you don't have to watch it. I still find episodes funny, and the movie is one of my favourites of recent years. I don't watch the show as much as I like, but that's due to circumstances beyond my control. Like most shows, some episodes aren't as good as others.

Different people laugh at different things, and, well, you just can't please everybody.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.
