mattb325 - Thanks for the comment. The 'blending together' is a probably a by-product of using basically the same textures and the fact that the buildings are all from one city.

kwakelaar - Your continued support is appreciated.

Here's a shot from the first in-game test.  I've still got interiors and lighting to do.  I also think that the roof needs a little something more to satisfy the roof-junk junkies ...

Ooh, now this has really caught my interest. It reminds me of a tower built in the late seventies. Is this based off of any particular building?

By the way, I love your work. River Island looks great in urban settings.

Well, it's been a long time since my last post to this thread.  The good news is that I haven't totally lost interest in SC and have been following developments on ST since the site upgrade.

The bad news is that I haven't done any BATting for a while so although I've got a few things I'm working on I'm having to relearn techniques that had become automatic when I was churning out something new every couple of weeks.

But having said that, I'm going to try to finish a couple of small-scale buildings to get some practice in before tackling the unfinished office building previewed here and continuing with the Bradford buildings project.

I think that's my way of saying "I'm back!" ...

Hey, that's cool! Your BATs so far have always been top quality, and it's good to hear that we haven't lost you entirely. 4.gif

Barbyw, tag_one:  As you will have noticed the bungalow is now on the STEX (complete with nightlights!).  Hope you like it.

Next up is a pair of link-detached houses - so called because the houses are detached, but they are joined at the garage.

    UK_LinkedDetachHse.jpg

Detailing and lighting still to do.

    So far so good..

All those buildings that you show us here are really great!

I think that the last one, with the garages on the groun floor is one of the best.. so peaceful... great for a small city!

sloppet - Glad you like the link-detached houses.  They are based on one of the houses I lived in when I was a kid.

JayStimson - You're right about the tower having potential, but I need to get my BATting skills back up to speed before I try to finish it.

The tower might work as a Civic Centre (replacement for a Guild Hall), it looks like a lot of the ones that were errected up here in the North during the glory days of T Dan Smith

RP after a recent trip to Bradford (thanks for your comments by the way!) I would love it if you could start Batting more Bradford Buildings. The St Georges Hall was amazing when I went past as was the various domed buildings that the city has aswell! Please say you will, I don't normally beg for things like these but I think that the quality of buildings in Bradford need to be shared amongst the Simtrop community!

Never seen the concept of having two houses with garages between them before, are these a local phonemeneon?

norbutt2001--> I can see where your comming from with the idea of the building being used as a Civic Centre; it does look very government brutalist like! Maybe it needs a few of those 1960's coloured panes and a little more weathering before it looks the full piece...

norbutt2001 - Like many such buildings there's a few things the tower could be.  In reality it's an office building with retail in the base, as someone said it would also make a good hotel - you've added another good suggestion.  Whether people would want three variations on the same building I guess we'll see once I get the office version finished and released.

wallasey - What can I say?  The Bradford buildings I've done so far are some of my favourite models and you are absolutely right that Bradford offers some great buildings (your photos included St George's Hall, but did you see the Town Hall too?).  If I keep making stuff I'll definitely get back to Bradford (Leeds too, hopefully).

As far as the link-detached house goes, you find them all over the country, they tend to have been built in the mid 60s to late 70s.  Mine was on Canvey Island in Essex  - I'm a Yorkshireman by choice, rather than birth 10.gif .

Wallasey: my in laws lived in a link detatched like those in the 60s/70s in Crewe. They seem to have been very common as there were similar ones in most places that I have lived.

Barby - So I'm not the only one to know about link-detached houses then 2.gif

Ill Tonkso - Yes I use 3ds Max.  BAT for Max makes it pretty easy to render stuff, but it's a little quirky as you have to render the LOD in normal gmax BAT to get the model file.  BAT for MAX then renders the images into the model file.

Night windows are something I've never got working in 3ds Max, but as I tend to use omni and target direct lights that's not an issue.  One thing you will find is that it's slightly odd doing lighting as you don't have a proper night preview in 3ds MAX, so you end up working on a daytime model with the lights on.  You don't get to see the proper night view until you are rendering it to the model file.

Hope that helps - if you want more details on the way I render from Max just drop me a PM.

OK enough of the waffle - here's the in-game preview of the link-detached houses.  I've still to add gutters and some interior details; then I've got the lots to design.  2x2 and 2x3 are most likely.

    UK_LinkedDetachHse2.jpg

On a slightly different note - Despite the nice comment from T Wrecks on my last release I don't feel that my lot-making skills are good enough for the higher standards that are expected on current releases.  I would therefore like to ask if a there is lot-maker who would like to take on building lots for my models.

I am not interested in team membership - I am just looking for a collaborator.

RP, you know my offer of help is still open and not related to BSC at all. Let me know if you would like me to do your lots.

the house looks really great, I hope to see more of these kinds of houses

about the lotting, I recommend using BSC props, they make your lots always nicer. just play a bit with them in the LE. I also recommend to take a look at other lots for some inspiration. I'll hope this helps you

    Thanks Barby - I've PM'd you.

tag_one - I'm reasonable at lotting, but things have moved on and much of the newer stuff from the dedicated lot-makers is starting to look far more real than I can make it.  I would be better concentrating on my strength, which is the buildings, rather than trying to do everything and the lot be compromised.
