I like the apartment! 44.gif an idea (if you haven't thought of it already) how about some colour variations for diversity? with not many mid-rises im sure these will be popular in cities and different variations would spice things up a bit 19.gif

Welcome to Page 3!

Not to mention that differently-colored versions would look awesome in a rowhouse-sort of situation! Great idea Frogface!

Great building so far, rp! As suggested by a couple of others, some colour variations would be great (though not an immediate need.

This style seems to be one used the world over - we have buildings like this in Sydney too. Mostly near our rail network (Our government is actually doing a smart thing and allowing denser zoning near the rail lines.

Most of the suburb next to me is walkups (oh, and for the record, they're not considered so poor here. We have some very nice walkups here in Sydney...

I agree with cammo2003 (I believe you're also on skyscrapercity's Oz forums too) these are very similar to the types of residential apartments being built in places such as Wolli Creek, Strathfield, Asfield and the like in Sydney.

If I could just suggest something before you release it. As awesome as that new apartment building is (and I hope you make more like this, we need 'em badly) I think it'd look a bit better if the entrance was slightly set back. Know what I mean? Set it back maybe....a foot (speaking in scaled terms of course) and then you could put like vines or something on the newly exposed brick. It's a small suggestion, but seeing as this building is very modular I thought that it could look good. Either way this looks great! 19.gif

I think you could be right about setting the entrance back a little, but you'll have a long wait for vines ... the nearest I've come to anything organic on my models is a thatched roof!!!  2.gif

I did some vine work on a trellis setting once. But if you're thinking of vines up a wall, textures would work just as well, unless you want to create that thick, lush look. Then you might have to do a little modeling. I hate modeling organic stuff myself, but I'm getting more daring.

I don't think vines would suit these apartments (too new), but I'll keep in mind the comments because I'm bound to need to add vines to a model at some point.

Detailing has taken me longer than I thought, as usual.  Apart from some minor detail tweaking* the apartments are now finished and on lots.  They will be released as soon as I am satisfied that they grow properly - hopefully this weekend.

*the satellite dish currently looks like it would be blown off the roof in a strong wind!

In its early stages, but probably recognisable to those who know the building it's based on ...

@meowza - your mexican-japanese comment is quite interesting.  The building is from the far east and is an interpretation of western styles, so you're going the right direction.

But I'm still not going to identify it - yet!

Here's the latest image - I've still got work to do on the base, tidying up of the detailing and nightlighting to do.

The tower building that I've been previewing in the thread is Ho Withun Thasana, or the Sage's Lookout Tower.  You'll find the real thing at Bang Pa-In in Thailand - it is part of a complex of buildings making up the former summer palace of Thai royalty.

The building is now on the STEX - here's an in-game night shot ...
