PS For anyone wanting the Midland Hotel - it's not been forgotten I just needed a break from it.  It has too much potential for me to abandon it completely.

I think that is probably the best approach, otherwise you 'burn out' from that particular project and are doomed to never return.

Because all the walls are curved it's a particularly fiddly BAT to work on, but I've got the main building finished and the roof on and am part way through doing the circular cafe that sits at one end and the large bar/lounge area that wraps round the back wall.  Once those are finished I'll 'only' have detailing to do.

And it's not as if creating the cafe and lounge bar are going to be particularly easy in themselves.

My next BAT is a break from the British stuff and is my second Japanese building.  This is the GC Osaka building, a six storey office building by Shigeru Ban - the same architect as for the Imai Daycare Centre released at the back end of last month.

This is still obviously quite early in the build, so there's plenty still to do - including the incredible fire barrier and staircase on the left side of the building.

No.  Though I've not had a really thorough search on the Internet yet.

    Fantastic building, Fantastic BAT.

I can't wait to see more. Will you be adding in office furniture inside later to give the BAT a feel of being used?

Definitely.  With the windows being the full height of each storey it wouldn't look right if I left it empty - especially at night.

A little more detailing, roof junk and interiors still to do.

Hmm... not to nitpick, but it seems you missed the two columns in the corners on the front of the building.

    Looks nice otherwise, tho.

@ACEfanatic - The building along with the firebreak currently sits snugly on a 1 tile wide lot (it's effectively modern infill for a W2W row).  The outside columns were left out to shave a bit off the width, rather than make the windows narrower.  To make it fit onto a 2 tile wide lot would have required changing the building even more substantially.

Such are the compromises of trying to fit real-world buildings into Sim City lot spaces 18.gif

@gingerblokey - I've currently got a family of three substations.  Before I release them I want to have 6 - they got a bit left behind as I started doing other stuff.  Thanks for reminding me 44.gif

This is a fictional apartment block I'm working on.  The building is in the early stages of the build and is designed to be used either as a standalone building or in rows (it's 2 tiles wide).

    <ahttp://www.atitlan.org.uk/Otherpics/Apartments01.jpg align=baseline>

The double-height apartments at the top will have a balcony across the centre of the windows with steps down to the terrace and the cut-out at the back will also be faced with balconies.

The large hole in the lower centre will be the main entrance lobby and will be primarily glass, though I'm still deciding on the pattern of frames I'm going to use.

    Hope you like it!

It's very much like something you could expect to find in the London Docklands. I'll be following this one with interest to be sure.

    Brick width=400 border=1>

RP- that there house looks familiar? It's actually next to the Peak District Canal (just outside of Marple) If you compare both buildings, the real life house and your BAt look pretty much the same! Good Work RP!

I'm playing the game more than BATting at the moment (damned deadwoods and his raised parks11.gif2.gif), but I've managed to make a little progress on the apartment building ...

That's the best thing about this building: It could be in any city, at least in any Middle or Northern European city. North America as well, maybe... I'm no expert. Anyway it looks normal enough to blend well into a modern medium-density part of the city, and that's definitely good news.

This building will not get as many downloads and thumbs ups as a shiny skyscraper, but it will actually be more useful than yet another CO$$$ tower once it's out.

    Go rp2005 go! 44.gif

NOt only will the design blend in well, but also the size is just right to allow it to fit into a number of different situations.

Thanks for the comments.  I'm very aware that the majority of my releases are a little too British for most people, so I thought it was time I did something that was suitable for a greater variety of cities.

I'm also at the stage in my own region where I'm growing mid-rise buildings in many of my cities, so I'm thinking along those lines at the moment.

Just a quick update (sorry no new pics) ...

The apartments are progressing well and I'm expecting to be able to release them midweek.  I'm then going to concentrate on finishing the Midland Hotel ... it will get released, and not as an rp2006 BAT!!

The apartment looks excellent - great proportions and detailing. I agree that there are too few mid-rises in the game.
